what about when when x =0 and when x=9 then you get two values for the sum of P+Q+R+X

hey puys can anybody give the answer for this data sufficiency question asked in XAT 2011

given below is an equation where the letters represent digits

I have marked D coz without statement 2 the answers can be 27 * 37 = 999 OR 00 * 00 = 000
as 00 = 000 = 0
but all the coaching institutes have marked E (neither 1 nor 2 is necessary to answer the question) except for career forum which has given D (either 1 or 2 is sufficient to answer the questions) as the answer

ithink option E is correct awnser because without using the options you can get value as 27*37=999 as per given relation in question so the sum can be unqieuly found out

as for UN peace keeping forces its responsibility is to maintain peace in the places,yes the name of the organsation to maintain peace communal harmony etc among the war torn nations is its primary role,but definetly UN forces are well prepared to combat terrorism chechnya rebels blowing up public parks,resorts,railway stations,Motels etc.. where you see there is dismal progress of civilian activities the forces have used appropriate means to couter foil terrorist attacks and its common everywhere. so its the means UN forces resort to most of the times for mainatining peace(famous quote by winston churchill regarding UN forces "you cannot expect satan to preach scriptures by heart even if you convince it to become Pontiff") as for coaching institutes you dont need to hell bent on them for awnsers you ought to see which awnsers are correct and logical as ihave mentioned in previous post.if that would have been the case why are they so many discrepancies in anwser keys or solution among various coaching institutes should i logical infer that they are trying to have a range of marks which all the candidates could score in best case and wost case or is there any logical flaw.exams like IIFT,JMET guys scoring decent marks clearing the sectionals according to coaching institute awnser keys didnt get a call so would you say that paper setters at IIFT,JMET have discrepancies in the awnsers and what coaching institutes gave the awnsers that is right if thats the case then government should give legal rights to coaching institutes to set all MBA related papers to ease the burden of the elite B schools for candidates who ought to take admission.
atlast its XLRI not the coaching institutes to decide how many marks you score.hope u still clear it

ur gettin it all wrong....u can't use positive or negative traits to find the odd one out...that logic is flawed. u don't have to think that complicated to find the answer....all that is required of u is to understand the idiom and see whether the corresponding example fits in...it's that simple :)

if u go by positive or negative traits then real mccoy has both negative and positive traits...just because something is unique doesn't mean it's positive. for example i can say hitler is the original bad guy etc.

all options fits in with the corresponding idiom except for UN peace keeping forces AS THEY DO NOT START THE WAR they are are sent to war torn countries to maintain peace.

United Nations Peacekeeping (read this for ur enlightenment)

what ur talkin about the peacekeepers is a minor incident and NOT THEIR MISSION STATEMENT or PURPOSE.

and of course they have guns....who wouldn't in war torn region....but they use it for their own protection and for the protection of others. remember they didn't start the conflict....

their sole purpose is to maintain peace!

if ur still not convinced u can look at the solutions given by TIME, IMS , CAREER LAUNCHER, CAREER FORUM, TEST FUNDA and TCYONLINE. and they all show UN peace keeping forces as the odd one out.

don't worry about the -3.75 marks.... the cut off will probably be low...i'm sure u'll clear it

the answer according to me should be the gauntlet and UN one

coz throwing down a gauntlet means to throw a challenge at someone and the UN peace forces never initiate a fight/ challenge an entity under any circumstance.
thats the odd one out.

according to ur logic option B is the odd one out because it has multiple relations whereas others have a unque relation. if we go by this logic none of the options match

How do i know wht all institutes i had selected for submission of my XAT sxore card ??
i disticly remember i had ticked 5-6 insititues...want too verify whether i had ticked GIM...
i visited XAT hompage...logged on....but in the form it does not mention even a single indtitue...whereas i had ticked some 5-6 institute during application..
also is it possible for me apply to those institutes which i had NOT ticked while filing XAT form ??

You will have to call the admissions office n give ur xat id, they will verify it for you

1 LIBA
2 IFMR
3 Wellingker
4 XIME
5 XISS and
6 KIAMS.

Out of these colleges LIBA, Wellingker n IFMR r best.
XIME is average.
XISS and KIAMS (Kirloskar) r below avg.

You can also apply
1 ITM business school and
2 Great lakes.

I dont have knowledge about these two colleges.


All the best n also wish me luck for my XAt call. I screwed CAT.

The application for LIBA and welingkar PGDM are still open, these two colleges accept XAT score, i am afraid the deadline for the other colleges that accept XAT has passed. best of luck

so don't worry... it is a relative exam.... be optimistic... prepare well for interviews..

Guys i have a problem. I am a fresher and do not have work experience and have applied for XLRI GMP as my first preference. Just a couple of days back I realized my blunder. I have put HR as my second preference. So what happens when they find out that i have selected the wrong option. Will my application be rejected. I have tried e-mailing and calling but there has been no response. What do you think i should do. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

This post is a replica of my post #67 in this thread. This is for the benefit of applicants who may have missed the earlier post.


I would like to clarify certain important points:

SPJIMR gives out:

1) Profile based calls
2) Calls after CAT/XAT results are out.

Now this does NOT imply that people getting calls in point (2) get calls only on the basis of their CAT/XAT score. These are the people who have good profiles but have narrowly missed out on getting a profile based call. Getting a good CAT/XAT score increases their overall net score (please see point number 2 in post #66 in this thread (the post just above this one)). For example, a person with a very good profile and 96 percentile in CAT has a better chance of getting a call than a person who has an average profile with a 99.9 percentile in CAT. But if both of them have similar profiles then the person with 99.9 percentile will get the call.

Getting a call depends upon a net cumulative score based on your Profile, work experience, extra curriculars, CAT/XAT/GMAT score and academics.

Securing a final call for admission depends upon a net cumulative score based on your Profile, work experience, extra curriculars, CAT/XAT/GMAR score, academics and performance in your Group interview rounds.

3) If a person who has a profile based call does not get the minimum percentile mentioned for CAT/XAT then he/she will not be considered for admission. The minimum overall percentage required is 85 (total) for CAT and XAT. Sectional scores are not taken into account

4) There is no bias or discrimination based on any factors. The sole criteria for securing an admisison is as mentioned in point number 2.

5) Your net score does not depend upon the average of the CAT/XAT scores uploaded. The better percentile in CAT/XAT is considered for evaluation.
