Hi
Its fine that you have expressed your opinion.
Let me clear your view of looking at the things.
Good Luck.
Let me add a small point to all that Surethistime and sidharth have made:
IITs never promote themselves. They do teach marketing but dont apply that to themselves

Thats the reason why such perceptions arise, that IITs are technical instis(oh gawd kahin mujhe wapas engg mechanics na padha den) and how they gonna place u.
Lets do an analysis about IITs(not kanpur, but all IITs as this question is put up to all of them) using the parameters usually used to judge B schools.
1)
Faculty - PHDs(Kharagpur is only phds, i am not sure abt others but I think this is the basic requirement in an IIT)
2)
Peer group - atleast we had a chance to interact with the previous batch here, which is not always the case(IMT, MDI, NMIMS). Also, I could say that there was a lot of camaraderie around, and the atmosphere was not cutthroat at IITK. Moreover, this parameter cant be worked upon, it happens by itself.
3)
Infrastructure and facilities -

4)
Placements - everybody else is discussing this, let me leave it.
5)
Guest lectures/Presentations - I saw somebody called APJ Abdul Kalam at an IIT guest lecture list.
6)
Fees/expenses -
I didnt want to write all this before the results are out, lest I sabotage my chances of getting thru (sumbdy having a final convert mite accept after reading it and I might not clear the waitlist bcos of that

- a feasible scenario), but took the risk...;)
