I feel SIBM would be a better option considering the age of both the institutes and the fact that SIBM has a separate campus which definitely gives a college an edge(completely my opinion).

almost all da info is same as is present on the final result page...thr are 2 more forms viz. an undertaking and a specialization form (dun wry, u can change ur choice of specialization once u get in da colg, on 15 july).. its also mentioned that the transfer and migration certi can be submitted till late june..

i think its da latter..most probably its da max no. of students..

i have a query though, in da call letter, thr are 4 specializations (out of wich, we have to write 2 preferences), whereas in the prospectus thr is an additional 'marcom' specialization too..(i.e., a total of 5 specializations)

now can we mention this also as one of our preferences?

I have been wait listed in the final merit list for SIBM Pune (09-11).

I have some doubts:

1. when is the date for depositing fee for wait listed candidate.
2. in "docs required" there is 'transfer certificate', i inquired at my college and they said they don't issue any transfer certificate. is there any particular format for the same?
3. do wait listed candidates receive final score card.

I would like to point out that this guy has been earlier also hell bent on 'establishing' SIBM supremacy over NMIMS. I remember in an earlier thread he made unnecessary remarks over the placement scenario in NMIMS. I had responded to him then as well, but I think some more info from my side will help.
NMIMS has an excellent location.
The no. of seats is 300 and not 360. Last year NMIMS had a combined batch strength of 367(that includes sectoral programmes which have been scrapped this year) and they placed the entire batch very very successfully.
The management seats at NMIMS are filled on merit. I was witness to the process last year as well and can vouch for this.
SIBM has 15% management seats, 15% NRI seats and the process for filling these seats is..well..not transparent.
SIBM is not in Pune, but on a hill, and on a secluded location.
Lastly, he mentioned the way admission process was conducted at SIBM and NMIMS. The SNAP fiasco should not be forgotten in this 'admission process'. People took SIU to court on this.
P.S. Moderator, I have tried to give facts. Apologies for any unintended comparisons.

Secondly, looking at the campuses you could have a fair idea of the kind of infrastructure support that each college is capable of.

Please also keep in mind, that it is always advantageous to be in a college where the student strength is not too high, because when companies come to recruit MBA students, they recruit only in twos and threes, unlike engineering colleges where they recruit truckloads from every college.

Also, it is always advisable to be in a college which has been around for longer, since it's wider alumni base helps in getting companies on campus for placements.

just that the discussion does not favour one.. let me say +ve abt NM

a.) Much higher reputation in in industry. Brand value is more.
b.) Marketing and Finance courses are superior.
c.) The degree. A very generic MBA and can be specialized if you want. General Management degreee is far more effective in many situations. No idea what SIBM offers in this regard so cannot comment.
d.) Types of profiles offered. Have spent Rs 500 in 3 days calling various people, alumni of both coll. Clearly, profiles offered at NM are much diverse and higher is stature.
e.) The myth of large batch size needs to be broken. The batch size has actually reduced. NM has 240 + sectoral MBA. hence total of 400 students.
Now they have done away with sectoral MBA and the total strength is that of 300.

Negatives of NM
a.) Bad BAd Bad.. very bad infrasturcture.
b.) Casual attitude of certain section of students towards studies
c.) No extra effort by faculty.

My opinion
In case you are fresher or with low work-ex, SIBM is the choice for you. For higher workex people, and ones who have definitive sectors in mind (say finance or marketing things) NM is obvoius choice.

Also, make sure that all the effort thatneeds to be put in has to be from the student. Faculty at NM is pure guiding light. This is what i have been informed. i.e. if you want.. they are ultimate source of information and knowledge. But if you don't try, faculty will not put any additional effort from their end to make you better.

Please, please pleae.. before you start getting angry... these are the finding I gathered after talking to at least 15 NM and 15 SIBM people (including current and past students). You may differ and bring in new perspective to the discussion. Would be helpful for me and others.

Guys, I think a lot of us are in similar fix of choosing one betwen SIBM and NMIMS.

Lets list down positives and negatives of each coll. (Not compare.. as thats against the rules of PG :D)
as each of has different profile, we might have different expectations from MBA and hence end up choosing different colleges.

I thing you have a very false perception regarding the increase of seats in NM..I had some converstaions with NM guys...Acc. to them, NM had some sectoral programs in their college but they had lots of problems for their placements...As such they decided to close those programs nd merge them with the core program so that the total no of students in their institute remains the same..

Yup, this part is true. PG even has a report on the front page regarding this.

even for the last 2 days after talking to umpteen number of people (aspirants, MBA's and passout MBA's )...not able to choose between SIBM and NMims..
it's like half says one is better and the other half says other...
any pointers how to differentiate once and for final...
since i have given both interviews at the respective campuses,i was more impressed by SIBm (campus as well as seniors)...

I have come to know that NM has increased the seats to 360 which wud make it even more tougher for them to place everybody.... Also, I had some inputs from my friends who have already completed their MBA from some of the Big names of the country..They had a clear cut view for joining SIBM than NM....

I hasn't been selected for sIBM....can seniors please tell me whether I'll receive the hard copy of my marks or not, and If yes then by what date can i expect that.....
I'm asking this coz many others like me wud be anxious to know whether they still have a chance in the second wait list (if any)

Guys, I think a lot of us are in similar fix of choosing one betwen SIBM and NMIMS.

Lets list down positives and negatives of each coll. (Not compare.. as thats against the rules of PG :D)
as each of has different profile, we might have different expectations from MBA and hence end up choosing different colleges.

Lets start a new thread if possible ?

Hi seniors,
even for the last 2 days after talking to umpteen number of people (aspirants, MBA's and passout MBA's )...not able to choose between SIBM and NMims..
it's like half says one is better and the other half says other...
any pointers how to differentiate once and for final...
since i have given both interviews at the respective campuses,i was more impressed by SIBm (campus as well as seniors)...
any sort of good advice is welcome....

There is wifi in the campus but not the hostel. You will have ethernet connection in each room

No wifi in the hostel only LAN connection.Acad block is wifi equipped

just to add to what vivek said, SIBM has a strong Marketing alumni and attracts most of the top level marketing firms. whether u get Marketing research profile or not depends completely on ur ability to convince them of ur skills and knowledge (same applies if u r in any other b-school too) ....
and ya, SIBM is kind of well-known for its Marketing students

in a hell lot of confusion.....

Want to do somthing in Marketing research and consultancy.
Ny help as to which college to join.

Any view point would be helpful. Just want to draw some obvious comparision between the two.

i am not too sure i understood u, but if u meant that giving the test is just a formality for Fin specialization then the ans is NO.

the number of seats are fixed, if more ppl apply then u will obv hv test, but if less ppl apply even then there will be a test and an interview. basically the Fin faculty dont care abt batch size (the upper limit is fixed but), they want students seriously interested in Fin
