1. Whistle-blower: The term whistle blower comes from the word whistle (it is actually so). All we need to do is trace some history to reach the source of whistleblower. The term whistleblower comes from the practice that English police officers used to adopt. There used to blow their whistles when they saw a crime and this way they were able to inform the general public and other police officers that a crime had taken place.

2. Misogamy: Its first usage dates back to 1560 1656 and unlike its meaning, it is made from the union, of one Greek word misein and English word gam. Effectively, misien/miso is the root for hatred and words based on this root in some way or the other signify this sentiment. Lets have a look at a few of these words:
a. Misogyny: Hatred of women (Gyny stands for women, remember what a gynaecologist does).
b. Misandry: A hatred of a man or of men in general; especially by women (can you figure out what andry would stand for).

I am practicing some mnemonics(a sort of) to improve the vocab... they don't comply with grammar so
for eg:

Clamor : we all are in a killa(Castle) ..then suddenly somebody shoots a girl n she dies...the chaos spreads & everybody starts running n shouting
Kille(Castle) me koi mar gya (dead)... kille me koi mar gya...
cla (kille) + mor (mar) = clamor
Meaning : To shout loudly; especially in a confused way.

Chagrin : u r preparing tea for the guests n the chai(Tea) fell on your white dress, which left you disappointed in front of guests
chai + giri on white dress = chai +giri = chagrin
Meaning : a feeling of being disappointed or annoyed because of your own mistake; mortification


pontificate : Ricky ponting always pontificates (he is rude n arrogant in field , sorry ponting fans )
Meaning : if someone pontificates about something, they express their opinions in arrogance.(disapproving)

Parvenu (came in cat 2008 ) : (a sort of small story) there were two friends Parveen n veenu...they belong to low social class n lives in a hut.. vo mahino tak na to nahate (take bath) the na hi kapde dhote the (wash their clothes)...one day they find a box full of gold ...they became rich but their still their cleaning habits remains same so parveen + veenu = Parvenu
Meaning : a person from low social or economic position who has suddenly become rich & powerful (disapproving).


Pandemonium : lets assume if a pandit (priest) is having a harmonium(musical instrument) then what he will do
Pandit + Harmonium = he will create noise n sing besura raag...means he will create lots of noise & confusion
Meaning : A situation in which there is lot of noise & confusion; Brouhaha; rumpus; ruckus.

I am practicing these & maintaining a list...if this is helpful for you also then i can share these mnemonics.

Parallelism
Parallelism refers to the fact that the structure, tense or manner in which sentences are framed needs to be the same or consistent throughout. All the elements in the text thus need to be in the same grammatical form. Thus the form of pronouns, gerunds, adverbs etc needs to be consistent.
Examples:
Consider the following examples:
-- One must do ones duty is correct (the same form/ structure of the sentence is maintained throughout; it is not One must do his duty)
-- He likes reading, writing and swimming or we can say: He likes to read, write and swim (but not He likes reading, writing and to swim because the structure is not the same throughout)
-- Author X wrote essays, poems and epics
-- Children enjoy hot milk and cold water (not children enjoy hot milk and water that is cold)
-- The old machine was difficult to run and to maintain (not the old machine was difficult to run and maintain)
Redundancy
Redundancy refers to a repetition of words, phrases or elements in the sentence. Very often, you will find certain parts of speech being used which are not grammatically correct as they contain an element of redundancy.
A good example is the usage of the phrase comprise of. The word comprise means consists of; therefore the usage of comprise of contains a redundancy. Literally read, if somebody says comprises of it would read as consists of of!
Some words containing redundancy:
-- Comprise of (as explained)
-- Descend down (when you descend, it means you go down)
-- Raise up (similar as the previous example)
-- Climb up (you always climb up, never down. So just say climb as in: He climbed the stairs. You cannot say He climbed down the stairs since that is a self-contradictory expression)
-- Dream fantasy (a fantasy is already a dream)
-- Red ruby (a ruby is red)
-- Most unique (unique means one of a kind. Thus there cannot be degrees of uniqueness. Saying almost unique or both were unique is meaningless)
-- More preferable (just say preferable, there cannot be degrees of this)
-- Enter into (use only enter)
-- Continue on (use only continue)
-- Co-operated together (use just co-operate)

If you know the meaning of Sedulous, which means diligent & hardworking, one can find the same word in Assiduous too: AS+SEDUOL+OUS.

Assuage: To make milder or less severe; relieve; ease; mitigate.

Assuage is derived from the Latin suavis, which means sweet/agreeable to taste. To remember it, we can extend this meaning to serve our purpose. mnemonic:A simple mnemonic to remember the word is: a means without, therefore apolitical means without politics.

Arable: capable of producing crops

Meaning : a person from low social or economic position who has suddenly become rich & powerful (disapproving).


Pandemonium : lets assume if a pandit (priest) is having a harmonium(musical instrument) then what he will do
Pandit + Harmonium = he will create noise n sing besura raag...means he will create lots of noise & confusion
Meaning : A situation in which there is lot of noise & confusion; Brouhaha; rumpus; ruckus.
