Judgment. The part before "but" is a fact but the author says it is ambitious to assume.thats totally his opinion. I mean he's not inferring here but he is giving his opinion about what putman said.

can anybody pls explain it-

1. Put this way, sipping coffee sounds more like an abomination than the world's most accepted form of drug abuse. But centuries of familiarity have put people at their ease.
(what exactly this sentence is a fact,judgment or a inferences.)

This should be a judgment as no fact is supporting the given statement ......also what author feels about sipping coffee is his/her personal opinion ..
