Baleful is bad,evil or destructive but not as evil as 'Baneful'.
Baneful is evil so as to prove fatal. Extreme bad or destructive sometimes causing death too!!

I don't know how much of this helps you .
But during my CAT prep days we were given the book word power made easy to get used to words .. which gives information abt the roots words n help us to remember the word easily

vindicate : to justify to subject that you were correct albeit others had an different opinion(in mild sense justification for something).
e.g. : i am sure that this decision will be fully vindicated.

vindictive : trying to harm or upset the subject because you think they have harmed you.
syn :spiteful,malicious,revengeful etc.
e.g. : he accused her of being vindictive.

embezzle : to steal money for which you are responsible or the one that belongs to your employer.
