I got my offer letter for Mumbai. Although I am really glad I got through, I am not sure if I should join it because I want to pursue my masters too, the calls for which I will receive in May. Can anyone tell me if I can join TFI and leave it before then actual fellowship begins if I get through my masters?

I attended the Assesment Centre session at New York on the 18th of February and we were told we'd hear back in 2 weeks. It's been much longer than that I haven't heard back. A bunch of people who were interviewed along with me have heard back...all in the affirmative. I wrote to TFI Admissions asking when I'd hear back and they wrote back saying all results would be sent out by the 19th....I'm wondering if I should be preparing myself for bad news?

The assessment centre consists of a brief introduction about Teach For India followed by a Sample Teaching lesson, a group interview and a written test. The applicants are then called in for a personal interview.

Sample Teaching: Keep it short,simple and effective. Finish it in 5 minutes. Using visual aids can definitely help. Be more interactive and be calm and confident.

Group Interview: When you are given a minute or so to gather your thoughts, please do so. Try and pen down three or four effective points relevant to what has been asked. Try and move the discussion forward and definitely don't try to undermine anyone else in the group. Everybody has sufficient time to speak.

Written Test: This is a time bound test. Do not try to overanalyze a situation.

Personal Interview: A journey from your childhood to the present. You cannot help but be yourself. The one's who are genuine enough over the course survive and the others tend to get repetitive and monotonous. It's a clear differentiator.

I had my interview scheduled for today bt dint get any call

Had my telephonic interview today. I initially messed up tried to say something but something else came put but after that i did well. Later on i rectified my mistake by stating what i really meant by that second line via email. Anyways hopefully i would get a assessment center call.

The questions they ask are the straight forward ones like WHY TFI what are the problems facing this sector why not other sectors..etc etc.The call lasted for around 15 mins...

i am shubh, Btech undergrad from IIIT jabalpur(4th yr). i am very much intrigued by the idea of working for socity, have done certain social work in the campus itslef. i have few ques regarding the aftermath and alumni support of TFI 2 yrs fellowhip program.

presentaly i have a job in hand and m in a quandary wether i should go for the job first and then later on take a sabbatical to join TFI ???
or i should join TFI first then after 2 yrs go for the job??

to opt for the latter option i think full alumni network and support would be much required. i would be going for a MBA course later either from india or abroad.
and what kind of work environment is there for fellows..i mean is it flexible enough, alowing you to introduce new ideas and implementations for the students, socity, management of TFI itself?? or do we have to follow certain predefined hierarchical structure for implementing ideas??

hey barkha,

the AC round was pretty interesting on the whole. Their is "sample teaching" were u`l be teaching on a topic u have prepared and the duration would be exactly 5minz!!! Then goes in the group activity which is much of a discussion session. Next is the problem solving activity which is an individual effort basically. after this the results for the 1st round will be out & then the selected candidates would be called up for the interview.

its a pretty good experience as we will be getting to meet like-minded people from different places. its really interesting!!!

Hi Sanket,

It was not required to remove the earlier post, neither would have it affected anyone. It is only that it isnt required for any of the applicants know how better or far behind one is from anyone. The applicants are diverse and hence they cannot be weighed against each other.
The interviewer in going to judge to against yourself, but not against any other person in the room. So work to be the best of yourself and you'll get through.

thanks for the information you have provided earlier. I crossed the phone interview stage and selected JAN 15 for the assessment.
I`m currently in final year and have acquired 60%, as i din `t believe much in the marks system. I have been working with few NGO`s for quite a time now.
I hope TFI does n `t grade me only on the basis of percentages but does it give a negative impression on my profile on the whole?
