Sum of BCD = 3x

combining above 2 statements; we get

A and B are friends.They decide to meet between 1 pm and 2 pm on a given day. There is a condition that whoever arrives first will not wait for the other for more than 15 min. The probability that they will meet on that day is?

Method 1 :
The sample space for the given problem will be = 60*60 = 3600
Now the space required will be - 3600*1/2*2 (60-15) (60-15)
Hence, the probability will be given by = /3600 = 7/16 :)

Method 2 : Can be done by using a Graphical Approach !

60-15 represents those 45 min when they won't meet. It forms 2 triangles with dimension of 45 min.

Hence a+b=784+586=1372

a^2 = b*(2009-2b)

both b and 2009-2b must be square is the only thing I got about above equation. HIT and TRY:

b = 784 (start from 1, 4, 9, 16....as b's values and check out whether 2009-2b comes out as square or not, also some value need not be checked e.g. 1, 121, 441, 36,etc. coz 2009-2b should end with 0, 1, 4, 6, 9 for it to be a square)

b = 784 gives

2009-2*784 = 441 which is a square

a^2 = 441*784 => a = 28*21 = 588

a+b = 588+784 = 1372
