Hi puys,
CAT 2011 season is finally over [smiley] [smiley]
Let start a new season of Quants thread for CAT 2012.. [smiley] [smiley]

No it'll be for 4 out of 5 days only...
Let S = Shining, H = Hidden
(S,S,S,S,S) = (1/3)*(1/3)*(1/3)*(1/3)*(1/3) = 1/243
(H,S,S,S,S) = (2/3)*(1/3)*(1/3)*(1/3)*(1/3) = 2/243
Now H can occur on 1st,2nd,3rd,4th or 5th day=> Total 5 ways
=> 5*2/243 + 1/243 = 11/243

Hey,the above answer wouldn't come for atleast 5 days outta 6 days,ryt?
Yup!!! You are right.....I made a blunder while solving it......The values would lie between -9 to 9. Total 19 values
2 2
P(hidden) = 2/3
P(shining) = 1/3
Five days
P(shining on all days) = (1/3)*(1/3)^5 = 1/243
P(shining on any four days) = C(5,1)*(2/3)*(1/3)^5 = 10/243
P(shining on at least 4 days) = 1/243 + 10/243 = 11/243

just go through today's posts...i think we discussed a lot about TSD today...and 2mrw also i'll com up wid new question...:)
If R were to walk at the same speed of S then what percentage of the initial time would he be able to save?
Cities P,Q are located 4500km to the east and west of A repectively.we have plane services from A to P and Q.Plane cruises at the same speed in both the towns and the speed of wind is 75kmph from east to west.Now all 3 cities are in different tym zones.Arrival and departure of planes are:-

arey varun bhai vo sare number nhi honge -9 to +9 aj mere ko ya to kuch ho gya h ya aj din nhi h....ek bar check krke btao plz.....
My take,
1)31
2)Ambiguous data i guess
3)8
5)2
for q3 ans is 19 number all between -9 to 9
hi puyss!!!!!
can anyone provide me the link of concepts of races and tsd???
X = 10!*18!
Y = 12!*17! = 12*11 * 10! * 18!/18
L.C.M. of (X,Y) = 10!*18!*12*11 = 12!*18!/1!
a = 12, b = 18 c = 1
a+b+c = 31
What are points D and E???
Critical points are x = -18,-9,9,18
Case 1: x < -18
=> -4 x = 54
=> x is not an integer
Case 2: -18 < x < -9
=> ...

My take :
Let the speed of escalator =e
speed R =R
Speed S=2R
Abhi because escalator is going downwards ,
e + R = 2R - e
hence e=(R/2)
iska matlab jitne time mei R 40 steps chalta hai escalator 20 steps leta hai aur S 80 steps leta hai
Means total distance is 40 + 20 = 80...
yaah..its 20...i missed the 2nd term in denominator...:)
is it 20?
say there are x speed breakers ,by using the concept of average speed we get
51/(( (51)-x(0.05)/50)+((x*0.05)/40)) = 51/ 1.025
solve the above to get the value of x

bhai nahin , 20 hi hoga..carefully socho, agar tum 10 steps mein 11 steps leta hun to, mein itna jada steps le raha hun?? 1 na? 10 aur 12...?? 2 na??...aise socho..
ab approach;
R=1STEP/SEC;
S=2STEP/SEC; aur esc=x steps/sec
Time fr R to reach bottom, =40sec;
total distance= 40+...
20 hi aayega...yaar..i thot ki ek 20 chalega aur dusra 40 to S will travel 19 more than R...
yaar iska 2nd part aur bhi aacha hai..bolo to post karun..?
A man travels 51km in 61mins and 30 sec..with an usual speed of 50km/hr.some speed breakers r dere on the road..each breaker reduces his speed by 80% of his usual for a distance of 50m about the speed breaker...find the no of speed breaker crossed...
1)20
2)25
3)30
4)35
detailed so...
bhai 20 aa rha h
s will take 40 step and r wil take 20 step
difference 40-20=20
bt acha question h
sahi ho to approach btau
