A related question:
For someone who already has a decent knowledge of financial Markets in general (US, Europe, etc.) but not much knowledge of Indian scene, What are some of the best ways to add know-how "specific to Indian Financial Markets ?

Would reading ICFAI->CFA course books
provide a decent avenue to quickly catch-up to the Indian scene?
By that I mean would reading material like:- CFA Level 1 and Level 2 Prep Course, SCHWESER SECRET SAUCE, etc. help as much.

Or something else would be easier/better ?

yes they get updated ,IMHO not much of a difference,the June notes would be available now,you can start studying from them now.

I am a level 3 candidate. I believe that the best way to learn is by teaching and hence I am very keen on helping people clear the CFA exams. I was trying to find a way to start a communities/forums/threads (for level 1, 2 and 3) where cfa candidates can publish their doubts and others can try to answer them but couldn't find it. At least I will try my best to answer your questions.

Can someone please start a community/forum where CFA folks can discuss their doubts? It will be great help.

Hello Puys!!! I am planning 2 give the CFA Level-1 in June 2011.I intend on starting off my preparation at the earliest..So, ....

1. Wat is the difference between CFA-AIMR & CFA-ICFAI?

2. Shall I go for the books available in the market for CFA Level-1 2010 or shall I wait as there might be a revision in the curriculum?

3. I've noted that the course-related materials are provided by the CFAI upon registration. Are those materials sufficient for clearing the exams in the 1st attempt? Also, does CFAI provide the materials for all the levels upon subsequent registration at no additional expense or are we supposed shell out extra bucks for the same?

4. I also read dat CFA level-1 2010 notes are available @ a xerox store. Can u pls tell me whether the notes for subsequent levels are also readily available @ such places as I've heard dat the original notes costs more than Rs 22000+?

5. Finally, by when is the registration for CFA L-1 June-2011 likely to commence?

I want to appear for the exam either in Dec 2010 or June 2011. I want to know about the time required for preparation of exam and is it possible to appear in level II in June 2011 ( if I clear Level I in dec 2010 ) with 4 months of preparation (I am ready to give 4 hours daily for it).
I also want to know about the job prospects after completing the course, since I do not have any background in finance but want to make my career in it.

Q1: cant say much,depends on your current financial knowledge.
Q2: Frankly i dont think CFA L1 gets you a big boost w.r.t 1)Financial knowledge 2)career prospects.Yes , a CFA L2 may, to some extent,but definitely not L1...hope it helps...don corleone

Hello mate(s). I am furthering this discussion regarding CFA Level 1 am intended to appear for L1 examination in the June this year. Situation is I am a engineer by qualification and working with Dell International site, Gurgaon as a senior technical support consultant. Not happy with the Job and life of course. In life time is the scarcest commodity I will be turning 27 this summer. I was a good student I missed IIT only slightly.

Time is terrible short and in my life in the toughest situation I had believed in one thing which is omnipotent and omnipresent: Will power.

Mumbai is not the center for the June 10 exam .

Even for Dec 10 Exam , Mumbai and even Nepal have been removed from the center list

1.)Does my university graduation degree(3yrs)qaulifies as a degree equivalent to U.S. bachelors degree?

2.)As mentioned above,i don't have any work experiance,Can i still register for the exam?

3.)I don't have a credit card,Can i use my cousin's credit card for registration?but then the SHIPPING address and the BILLING address will be different,would that be a problem?

For ur bachelor's degree i think u shud check the CFA website. I personally think that it should be equivalent to a US bachelors degree.
Even if you dont have any work experience right now you can still register for the exam. You ll receive ur charter only when u hve 4 yrs of workex but u ll b employable fr sure once u clear atleast first two levels.
Even if u use ur cousins credit card u wnt face ne problems cz it doesnt state anny address u can always change ur shipping and billing address. I paid thru my cousins credit card this time and dint had ne problem.

After reading a few threads about CFA. I have deduced that CFA degree can be obtained from the CFA insititue(USA) and ICFAI India. Could somone explain as to what is the difference between these degrees. Which one would be better, the difficulty level and stuff like that.

The reason i feel that US one is easy compared to ICFAI one is becaz the US have MCQ in level 1 and 2. Compared to subjective in ICFAI.

Thats the only reason i feel. In fact during my college time i took ICFAI and failed .

Also its US based exam yaar. So I think those are any days easier than Indian exams.

These are my views and ppl can defer from this.

Buddy ... To be very true u cant compare the difficulty levels of ICFAI CFA & US CFA as these are two totally different programs with different course structures..
I have been thru the course structures of both the programs as i was earlier doing ICFAI CFA but opted out of it & now enrolled for US CFA Level 1 & i can assure u that US CFA is much more practice oriented than ICFAI CFA...

Moreover, its ur personal choice to opt for a particular program rather than the course difficulty ...

Have you done CFA ? I mean any one of it ? Because after going through 'Need Some Opinion about CFA' thread almost all of them, most of them have done CFA, US, quoted that CFA,US is tougher.
