Hello All,
Posting after a loong time. So I am done with the MBA journey that I started 3 years ago and am thinking of returning to the motherland and need your advice and help in order to make an informed decision.
I did my MBA from Goethe University in 2010 and started working at a local pan European management consultancy form. I am 32 and did my undergrad in Information Systems (2003) from the US and worked for a few years as a techie but right now I am working in the financial services sector.
I had to leave the US because I graduated when the tech bubble had burst and then I spent some years working for smaller companies in India and in Europe and then I went for an MBA. The thing about the MBA in Germany is that even though the education is very good it is not very well respected in the industry in the Germany (unless you went to Harvard, Warthon etc..). Also, except for the big banks and the big global brands, most German companies don't really consider foreigners for client facing jobs. Also the growth in the EU and the M&A; activity is pretty slow.
So I was thinking of coming to India and either join a consulting firm (not MBB because as far as I know they don't hire laterally and I did not to go a brand name school) or one of the banks. I am currently studying for the CFA L1 and the FRM L1 since I am more interested in Asset Management than BB - IB (More intellectually rewarding IMHO).
I wanted to know if it is a good idea to come back to India at this stage of my career and join an asset management firm or continue working in Germany for a few more years and join an asset manager and then return to India after a few years. Also, if someone can compare working for an Asset manager or IB in India vs Europe I would really appreciate it.
Its a long post, so thanks for reading if you got this far.
