I have also received the offer letter for the 15 month executive program......... confused to say the least and the fact that the last date for the 1st installment is just 2 weeks away is adding to the confusion. Present Batch student please shed some light on the availability of loans for the course and the companies( if any) that did recruit from the exec batch.

Wish to switch to BFSI/Retail/Infrastructure.

I wont be going for a sabbatical hence I would be dependent on college for placements.

Switching(both industry and profile switch) is impossible with this course at IMI.

Some people wanted here updates of placements,

There are none(new updates) so far, situation is same as earlier(Interview time).

I think everyone who got selected is in the same boat. Right now we are no better off than we were before knowing the results.......add to that this dilemma. We are all shooting in the dark as of now, and rightly so as we do not know what to expect. There are a couple of issues that are bothering me, as a result my decision is in limbo. These are as follows
1) Even though there were just 11 candidates who were seeking placements, the institute could not get them placed: This is very disturbing, but is this scenario likely to change with a better placecom and more effort from the institutes side or some other reason.
2) Are comparable courses such as IMT-G Exec Pgdm, NMIMS Exec Pgdm, MDI, etc. facing the same problems.
3) The fees has been hiked substantially in way of making the international module compulsory. Should we expect more committment from the institute and placements for all the non-sponsored candidates. 9.5 lacs is steep when you compare it to similar courses.........and by raising the fees is the institute in a way telling us that placements are a distinct possibility.

Hello guys, I can understand your dilemma because you are going to make a big investment in the form of time and money and ur apprehension is very justified.I would like to share with you a mail by our admissions chairperson with you guys which he wrote in response to a similar apprehension expressed by some aspirant.Let me reiterate that we have nothing to hide.The following e-mail exchange is self explanatory.

Thank you for rasing your concern regarding placement as this is definitely a serious consideration in making the kind of decision you are about to make. I have gone through the entire Pagalguy thread that you shared with me.

I do recognize that last year our Executive PGDM placements were below our expectations as well as the students' expectations. This year, however, we are much more optimistic. I also realize that on the surface so far even for this year placements appear slow with only 1 out of 11 placed and 1 more very close to being placed (certificates are with the company now after multiple rounds of interviews). I also want to explain to you why the progress appears slow as of now. Our placement process for Executive PGDM has only now gotten into full swing after us having completed a very successful placement season for PGDM and PGDM-HR. As you must be aware the PGDM and PGDM-HR are essentially fresher products (little or no experience) and this product gets hired at entry levels en masse from campuses. On the contrary, the Executive PGDM is a highly experienced product (5+ years) and does not lend itself to en masse campus placement. The mass campus placement process is, therefore, not meant for Executive PGDM. Instead these students are placed in lateral postions on a case by case basis depending on the nature of the candidate's prior work experience. This means that it makes absolutely no sense to even attempt to place Executive PGDM students through the same process as that followed for PGDM and PGDM-HR. Executive PGDM students instead need a dedicated placement process of their own that companies become interested in only after they have completed their mass scale entry level campus hiring. Now is, therefore, the time when companies are actually seriously looking at lateral placements from our Executive PGDM program. Our efforts now are fully on this placement process as we speak. The Chairman of our Board, Mr. Sanjiv Goenka who is the Vice Chairman of RPG Enterprises, has taken personal interest in the lateral placement of our Executive PGDM students and has deputed his President of Corporate HR to meet our Executive PGDM students individualy for possible lateral positions in the different RPG group companies. This meeting hapened on Feb 8 and he is not only exploring possibilities in full earnest within the RPG group but also outside. In addition to this we on our own are also exploring other reputed organizations for a case by case lateral placement of these experienced candidates.

We urge you not to be disheartened by the situation on the ground right now and instead share in our optimism of our efforts bearing fruits. The decision to join the program is finally yours and only yours but I would encourage you to join. Whereas I cannot personally guarantee you placement of your choice, I can definitely assure you that you will have no regrets about the quality of education and learnings you will get in this program. That itself should ensure a bright career going forward if applied properly.

But, I am confused about what to do. The placement reports are not apealing and the course fee is a pretty big number. Please help so that I can decide what to do. Should i take admission or pass it for this year?

Having spent a couple of years in campus and seen its functioning, i agree to the fact that, the placement focus lacks for exec courses. The flagship PGPIM course has paved way for PGP and this has resulted in the entire shift of focus. Over the last 3-4 years have intercated with some exec students when they have visited my corporate for placement presentation, but still would love to see more focus there.

What am sure of is the fact that, if focus on placements is back on track then based on the course structure and quality of intellectual capital in the campus, all the current negatives can be turned around.

Let me correct you on these figures(In next post), please don't deceive people. All those who apply for exec are with 5 or more years exp. and are mostly married and have jobs, they would leave all of these to join and suffer later with wrong information.

Sambit, please give accurate information and let applicants decide what is good for them. At the end of the day, they are spending 9.5 lacs for the course unlike current batch 5.55(since foreign tour was optional).

Let me tell u one thing.I am from the PGDM batch.We don't keep track of much details abt the Exec batch.and my response was based on the a quick info gathering from my batch..I did'nt claim that I am 100% correct..I only said I will get back with further details.

I very well understand that people would be spending a huge amnt and thus wanted to know the real scenario..I just wanted to help with the info I had..

I can only be thankful to both of you for the responses. The whole motive was to know more, as while doing an exec MBA, a lot is at stake. I am a married, non-sponsored, not-on-a-sabbatical candidate, so you can very well understand my situation. The stakes are immense.

This much is clear - for whatever reasons, the placement scene is a bit lax for candidates who share my profile.I need to take a call here, I guess.

Why is the batch size so unnaturally small?
The batch size is not 11 but around 50.. Out of that only 11 are un-sponsored and the rest will go back to their respective corporate offices.
-- Corporate offices?? only 5 are sponsored by HAL and 11 are sponsored by indian govt. and are foreign govt. employees. 11 are self sponsored.
Why isn't there any placement assistance?
Effectively only 11 people doing exec-PGDM here are interested in placements -- Correct.

For only these 11 people there a a exec-placecom which is handling placement for these guys. --Correct.
Their placements go a bit slow becaz these guys have specialized profiles -- Correct.
and they dont want to sit for just any company that comes for recruitment of the PGDM batch --False..
But they are provided with full placement assistance.. Theoretically yes - Reality false

The very fact that around 80% of the batch is industry sponsored- 5 out of 26 isn't 80%,
is testimony to the fact that the course is a good one..Partly correct.
I can't compare it with other courses because I am not aware abt the level of those courses.-- One honest response.

- Whole class strength is 27 (11 foreign guys+5 HAL + 11 self sponsored). This is accurate figure, go check the rolls in the institute and executive placement brochure here and look at whole class picture.

- Then coming to lower class strength, last year only 8 were placed through campus out of 40 and rest were on their own and suffered a lot. Which led to joining of only 11 self sponsored students. As I said in earlier post only one is placed out of these 11 this year.

- Course is good for learning. Compulsory courses you do with your class and all electives are combined with 2 years program. But I don't know where to put our course on par with courses you mentioned.

3) Why isn't there any placement assistance?

- Theoretically there is placement assitance for Exec also. But there is no strong push for Exec placements from neither placecom and nor faculty.
-Reason being their focus on 2-year program, since the placement figures of 2-years would count in their rankings and ratings.

If you want to know more ask for students of current batch on the day of your interview and clear your doubts.

My point is to say the truth, reality is only one is placed so far in current batch and management is not bothered about others.

If you are going to join with an expectation that IMI will place you, forget about it.

Also PGDM(2years) placements are good this year, only Exec is ignored and you can enquire this any student when you come for interview on Feb 6th.

As much as I know yesterday was the last date to apply for Exec-PGDM. So , probably they will finalize the interview/panel timings and location details once the college reopens on Monday.It may take some days .Then they may send u mails regarding the details.

Today was saturday, so the admission office was closed.That explains ur call being not picked up.Ur call will be definitely attended on Monday.

One - Changed the title of the thread. Just because a institute fails to provide placement, it is not an indicator of learning, curriculum and other things.

As mentioned by Curtz, if there are any problems, they should be heard via proper channels and resolved. Since you have heard these things from other people and it is per se not your own experience, I will request anyone from 1 yr batch to post here so that we can believe in whatever you are saying.
As for you being an Alumni, it will be nice if we can have your introduction to make sure that this is a genuine concern and not just a suspicious attempt to malign the course and college.

Being an alumni of IMI, Delhi, I want to post something which is very shocking. Its a very good institute. But what i came to know recently, from differnt persons, students from the college itself, that they really behaves with partiality for 1 year students, specially in the placement.

They give all the priority and choices to the 2 years students. But, never think about Executive Pgdm students. They are like IMI's step children. I am really hurt listening this fact. I am confirmed with this thing 100% from many of my batch mates,They also got the same feedback.

At present, they are looking for only 2 year students. But do not giving any chance to the 1 st year students. They do not even give the permission for the 1 year placecom , to interact with the companies. Even if companies, sometimes want to take experienced candidates from 1 year batch, but somehow, they cancel it.

I would request, all the candidates, who are planning to join IMI, for ex-MBA, plaease do not join, if you need placement help. If you have your own business, or from company sponsored, then it is OK.

Respected Director has no control to this scenario. They even forget that, ultimately, this thing can not be suppressed, it will suddenly come out.

On the contary, IMT, SP JAIN, ISB, all the 1 year students are well placed.....why this is happening? Being an alumni, I am really sorry to say this about my old institution. If possible I will help my juniors. They need support. College is spoiling its reputation...........

First and foremost, never go by any hearsay. You may be an alumni of IMI but how can you believe the words of someone without even trying to confirm the ground reality? How do you know that the college is not giving due importance to the 1 yr guys? How do you know that the 1 yr placecom guys don't get an opportunity to interact with the corporates??

Do you know that even a company can mention their preferences, i.e. which batch are they looking to hire from etc.? And since I'm a current student of IMI, let me also take this opportunity to let you know that the 1 yr placecom guys do have corporate interaction as well. In fact, they also get help from the placecom of our batch. If you really want to get to the facts, try getting to the facts on your own, rather than just believing on hearsay.

If the current batch of Ex-PGDM are distressed that their placement is getting affected, they can't just vent it out on the college. Do they know what the companies require? There could be N reasons for this, whichever way you look at it. The answer to such a question can't be found by venting your ire on the college. If there's an issue, you need to get down to the actual facts before bringing them on. Don't believe in hearsay. People will tell you what they want you to hear.

You've already posted this on the thread meant for the Ex-PGDM guys, so I don't see a need for a separate thread. I request the mods to please close this thread.

Shocking post but whats important is showing the right picture... well i am an alum myself and i have seen a couple of batches of all courses (apart from HR which started after i passed out) going through the placement process...i am not too sure which course you are speaking about...as exec MBA is a 3 yrs part time course and the 1 yr course is PGPIM....

let me share some facts...when IMI started PGPIM was its flagship courses and currently most of our senior alums are actually a product of that course....yes with time the 2 yrs PGP course has gained prominence and can be correctly proclaimed to be flagship course....with time the focus from PGPIM has moved out...though the course is still a course of choice with many developing countries as with collaboration of Govt of India, many students sponsored by respective states come to pursue the course in IMI....i have never seen a step son like treatment being given out to them....the placement process is entirely separate and unlike many other b-schools everyone is not pushed for the same job....i dont agree with the fact that placecomm members from PGPIM or exec course are not allowed to interact with corporates.....i have personally interacted with placecomm members from these courses in a couple of my job assignments...and the same feedback i have got from my other batchmates also...

yes but then what needs to be changed is the lack of focus in these course, the way we are dynamically pushing our pgp and pgphr courses towards excellence similar focus needs to be shared with the other courses also...as an institute is known for all its courses and not just one or two....i understand the apprehension shared here...but the correct question to be asked would be Why the focus is lacking and What IMI needs to do to bring back the old glory back in these courses...

Even if companies, sometimes want to take experienced candidates from 1 year batch, but somehow, they cancel it.

I would request, all the candidates, who are planning to join IMI, for ex-MBA, plaease do not join, if you need placement help. If you have your own business, or from company sponsored, then it is OK.

Respected Director has no control to this scenario. They even forget that, ultimately, this thing can not be suppressed, it will suddenly come out.

On the contary, IMT, SP JAIN, ISB, all the 1 year students are well placed.....why this is happening? Being an alumni, I am really sorry to say this about my old institution. If possible I will help my juniors. They need support. College is spoiling its reputation...........

I really dont understand as to how people go out on a negative propoganda of their own college. I very well understand and sympathise with the plight of the students( if this is really the case) but do we really scrap IMI in such a way? Please do think ....
