This thread has been closed. I think this is one of the best threads which got old, eventually ignored, and finally closed.

And this is not the only one, there are many such great threads which, due to the unnecessary neglect, got closed down.

If I become a Moderator, I'll definitely make it my first priority to get such amazing threads active, and get puys so inquisitive, and active that these threads will receive their due respect and credit.

If i become mod......

Now i am on PF for about 8 hrs every day....If i become mod then may be 18 hrs...I can name my addiction atleast.....

Existing Mods/Admins are doing excellent job i do contact them and they are ready to help . I would just help in there work which will reduce there burden..:biggrin:

1. You as an informed user can take relevant screen shots and mail to anyone of us. Or report the user and state the reason.
   
2. Giving powers to regular users was an option that PG thought of in the initial stages itself, but powers in too many hands causes ruckus. Please report such posts we shall try to manage them. However we can always ignore a post or two in threads.
   
3. Trust me when I say this, but I personally have closed SEVERAL threads over the past few years. What you see now would have been left by mistake. However please report them and we shall accomodate.
   
4. Whenever anyone sends us a PM or even a post is reported, we try to act on it as soon as we can. Helping offline has its own limitations because I personally have faced people who are a cling on. They would want to be spoon fed for everything, Keeping that in ming I guess it is better to know a user a bit first then share offline details.

if i be d moderator i would like to device a mechanism that my posts gets notified to aal my friends.i would like to add new comers to the community or forum so that people navigate fastly through all the topics of discussion.also i would like to develop a system of sharing posts for faster and smoother process of learning. i see that ppl discuss careers but extracurricular discussions a re missing ..like u participated in online marketing contest so wat was ur experience ..what was ur strategy..etc..such initiatives need to be taken

I would introduce a new section in which puys who think have gained a lot from PG can donate Money as per the size of their pocket.100,500,1000 rs.....No holds barred...Then i will use that money for a complete revamp of the PaGaLGuy Portal with a lot of user friendly features and a redesigned Forum....

I will change the color of nicks of puys and pirls So that we can analyse and increase sex ratio in PG.

PG is not gender biased and we believe in treating both the genders with equal respect and that's why all have same color irrespective of gender also, having same color helps in preventing the unwanted spam in the form of using PG as any other social networking website where people keep bugging people by sending unwanted friend requests etc to the fairer sex.

1) add a button for user to invite their friend from GMAIL, facebook,etc.

2) install a customized chat messenger . where some category will be predefined and visitors can select the category and chat .and backend control will be given to authorised ppl .
example: like IIMA groups control will be given to ppl at iim a who r authorized by PG.

reason : posting is a quite slow way 2 communicate..

3) more no of polls should be there.

4) a running ticker on the home page of latest event and all could help to update users at a glance.

5)Pg published a book . i think users need e-magazine monthly or quarterly.which will help a lot.

i believe that moderators should remain online for as long as possible ... and i find very few mods being online for almost a day ... i will like to remain online almost whole day ( even now i remain online)... just like PP remains .. and when it comes to admins, gnrs is the only one i find online always

Being online .. there are few things of which i will be taking care of :

1. Seeing that while posting... people control their tone...as sometimes people become too sarcastic which might hurt someone else feelings

2. Closing the threads which remain inactive for long period . I sometimes find that nothing has been posted on a thread for long and it is still open.

3. Keep cleaning the threads at regular intervals by removing irrelevant posts... i find people posting in a thread which is not at all relevant... eg: there are 2 threads..one on PG meet and other for study group.... people keep discussing questions on PG Meet thread rather than study group thread... thse things should be taken care of !

4. Checking out shouts in SB ...sometimes, people shout something which should not have been done and due to lesser mods remaining online all time, they escape from mod actions.

5. Being available for puys, online as well as offline whenever they need any help/suggestion.

Anyways .. coming back to the real world

moderators and admins are doing great job they are always available to help us out ... seeing their devotion for puys and PG, hats off to them!!! No one can easily identify that their job on PG is on voluntarily basis.

If I were to become a mod the first thing I wud do is pinch myself. Apart from the usual stuff like being online and trying to keep PG clutter free and clean, I would also like to provide some kind of confidence boosters for the newbies in PG, like helping them to identify themselves and bringing them into the limelight. Second of all, I would like to open up a separate section for a CAT based CBT.

More ideas to follow!!!

I will try my level best to be online at PG as much as I can and will put my best effort to do all such activities what other mods and admins are doing specially Rohit(estranged_gnrs),because he is only the person who is online at PG frequently.In addition to this,I will try to do something new which will help Pagalguy.com and it's users.

Thx for considering the 2'nd suggestion(read WISH) and I seriously feel it would help the puys in general and the newbies in particular.

What abt the 1'st suggestion, its probably time to develop pg as a one stop sol'n for CAT(or MBA) instead of just a forum (though it has a CLASS in this category).

P.S -> plzzzzz if my tone is not good plz. don't take it otherwise.
Its only coz I have seen so many guys who have been there and seen it all attached to pg that I who wants to be there and see it(:), feels like he is also attached to pg in some way or the other. And so I would love to see it GROW .....

If I become an administrator, I would use a lot of AJAX in this site and also change the look to a more subtle colour scheme in vogue for web 2.0 sites these days.

Threads could display posts not just in historical order but also similar to stacking method used by Gmail or Facebook or other similar services. People could see posts and below them, replies to them which can be expanded or collapsed, giving a more connected look to replies. Separate posts could be displayed in the usual chronological order.

Also, its important to develop a mobile web interface for this site. The ad-hoc services like calculation of CAT and other exam results etc. should be accessible from anywhere.
Also, people should be able to view and post on forums from WAP enabled phones.

Lastly, I would introduce more variety of merchandise on sale. I'm sure there are puys who'd love to show off their devil tees. Its important the message is delivered in the right sense (something that sites like Yelp do so well) that buying merchandise helps support the company and is also uber-cool to sport it.

If I'd be a mod I will try to convince the admin for the following.

PG is already the biggest and probably the best forum for CAT/mgmnt but it has the potential to be much much more than that ....

i.) We can have some mocks scheduled at some particular day/date of the month....
Considering the kind of exp PG has it can prepare a better mock than anybody else in the buisness + we get to test ourselves against the best....

ii.) The home page where we are lead to soon after log-in can be a tad more elegant showing some sections such as discussion related threads/fun-masti(including life at b-school etc kind of stuff)/ gyan etc

P.S --> These are the things I would do if I am in the above mentioned position these are in no way to be considered as a criticism of the current format of the PG or under-estimate its role.

We have been working over the last week to speed up things quite a bit. In some cases we have been able to bring down load times by half. Let me know if you notice the difference.

2.i ll keep in check the STATE level exams thread coz mostly newbie comes here and create newly threads which are already present.

if i become a mod, i will install a feature that will stop newbie pagals from creating new threads without approval from moderator.
i think giving older puys who have been around for a long time, some special powers like other mods will also be a good idea.

Have a fetish for weeding crap out, and keeping things organized. Have spent hours organizing my contact list, and days for my 70 GB MP3 collection.

If I were to become a mod, I'd throw out useless posts (why do I see some people smirking and saying my own post count will go down by half :sneaky: ) and threads. I'd try to organize threads and all, so that things become useful for the users. For example, someone searching for MICA threads should be able to see only relevant MICA threads, atleast within the first page of the results.

Like I said... Am a sucker for standardization and keeping things organized... So would like to keep things uniform... Atleast thread titles so that searching becomes easier.

Well the mods are doing excellent work to start with... yeah everyone.

But still there are areas of improvement as it always be:

--> Start of a PG messenger service: This will help cut out spamming as lots of repeated and personal queries could be answered through that.

--> PM to increase from 100 mails. 100 is quite a small number even if we can delete it everytime. I might not hurt a normal user like us but some of the angels:) out here.

--> Too Heavy: PG has got a lot of option to make it a bit lighter as far as loading and browsing is concerned.

--> Keep Good Guys: Well for any website or company its main assets are its people. Try to keep them. I have seen guys with talent coming here, using PG and going after they have been benifitted. Try to get them engaged using PGs creativity. The Alumni section is also not that active but that could be understood coz of work pressure.

--> Contacts: Over the year PG has become a name we can trust when it comes to talk anything about MBA. Now PG should increase its contacts over to some companies where it can give some recommendation in the ongoing process.

--> Upload Server: is there a upload server in PG where we can have materials, tips , tricks, Papers and quiz.

hmm.. If I become a mod/ get to decide the features of the forum..

1) there should be consensus of one more mod on banning a person temporarily and consensus of three more in permanent ban!
something like the various benches in high courts :-)
this should eliminate personal bias (and accusations of bias)

2) enforce a post limit perhaps 2-3 posts on the first day of joining and then gradually raise it to a practical limit. This should frustrate guys from spamming multiple threads

3) maybe unblock the I-I-P-M filtering, to be very frank, it looks childish now, after all that messy battle which happened years ago..!

4) Make a work-friendly version link with less glaring graphics.
Perhaps an enhanced version of archive

5) clean up the MBA abroad thread..It is nothing but a long string of unanswered queries by aspirants

I have a question, or rather a hypothetical situation. Suppose you are assigned to do a job. The job is tedious and sometimes really gives you a headache. At the end of the day you aren't even paid for it :help:. So how will you respond when someone comes at the end of the day and asks you why aren't you performing your job properly?

The current scenario under which the mods are working, I do not feel they are answerable to anyone. Duty you say? How about contributing to pay the mods? . Then you can question them on each and everything they do ;).

Anyway, this is entirely my point of view. Disagree as much as you can. Mods I feel are here to help make this forum a better place and in that they need help from every member. Not questions.

I do agree with you buddy on the part that mod are busy and might be having tedious situation, etc but by replying to members doesnt mean replying instantly, it means like mod can keep a track and reply to all members who have doubt/query in say a day or 2 or atleast can pm him saying that he is busy or its is not in his hand or any thing but atleast revert him.

Regarding current scenario and all, I read somewhere in Forum only that a mod is made and resign based on their schedule, If they are busy and cant handle than they resign and another take forward.

What my point was "Mod/Admin should reply to members query/doubt and if they wont than atleast they should tell them about that. If not, than members should have rights to know that".

Finally its my views, I may be wrong but thats what i feel on my experience with forum.

Adding my bit to it.....there should be a proper procedure and a set of rules behind a ban. And perma bans must be treated very sensitively. If a mod feels that the person should be permanantly banned, he must consult atleast 3 other mods / admin if that person really deserves a perma. And many more kinda rules......will post them soon.
