The cyber world, a new face of the citizen journalist, a new means for the vox pops of the common man, a means to communicate your opinions and views- Shivam Vij
Media has evolved over the ages and become the fourth estate of the society. However today there is another forum which now functions to be a watchdog the cyber space. At the first ever National Cyber Media Conclave, organized on the 28th of March, by students of Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, the cyber media was only rediscovered.
With a volley of speakers like Kiruba Shankar, CEO of Business Blogging Pvt Ltd ; Shivam Vij, an avid blogger and journalist; Shiv Bhaskar Dravid, founder of viewspaper.com; Rajesh Lalwani, CEO of blogworks.com the audience was enthralled, entertained and elured by the fascinating world of the internet.
The role of media is multi-functional and the cyber space is no exception to this. With the advent of twitter and RSS, the cyber space has now become an extremely interactive media connecting people all over the world. In fact one can use the cyber space to carve a niche for themselves, Google is the place to stand out in- Kiruba Shankar. Since most searches are google based, isnt this the best place to showcase ones talent and be found? We say yes.
As far as the relationship between the mainstream media and the social media is concerned, a change has occurred though unnoticeable. The relation being a little bitter a little sweet, they both live in conjunction with each other to fulfill the function of being a social voice. This social voice also crosses barriers of age, with portals like viewspaper.com, the youth becomes a large part of the netizens population, and surprisingly, Shiv Dravid says that - the number of articles contributed in the politics section is the highest!
A revolutionary and apt means to talk about the social issues, cyber is the way to go.One hand where Ms. Jasmine Patheja, founder of blank noise(an organization fighting against street sexual harassment) touched upon how her campaign gained momentum and became an organization from a blog, having connected many women all over India, Ms. Rashmi Danwani, from Breakthrough threw light of the bell bajao campaign which got a new dimension in the online space using means like blogs, games, interactive forums etc.
Cyber media is not solely a social bloggers forum but also a forum where ones brand needs to be. Rajesh Lalwani, said that the internet can be used as an effective tool to reach your target audience and sell your products vis--vis nearly sell your products. While Mr. Namit Bhimbiat, highlighted the scope of online videos, Mr.J Mahadevan, VP Products, Bharat matrimony stressed on how a brand can be built in the online space, by giving information which is simple, sensible enjoyable and relevant. And the finale was known technical blogger Mr.Atul Chitnis talking about the business of open source.
A new experience, a new quest, a new means to communicate the cyber media is here to stay.
