Last time I had mentioned Adventure Camps!

Here's a more vivid desc!

The entire juniors batch was split into seperate batches of 40 odd people and each batch was sent for a 3 day adventure camp on different weekends. There we underwent activities ranging from rappelling to water rafting; from obstacle races to varied team games; all was happening out here! :D

And this was happening out in the rugged terrain, living self set up tents and using the wild jungles for the... umm... u can guess what :biggrin:

We had to perform all the tasks in all the elements, people got tanned, were laid down with injuries, many were down with fever, but not a single person left any task untouched!

A complete team building activity filled with fun, i'll let the pics do the talking

Passing through mind boggling small cracks and water logged holes or filled with slush, this was a task more mentally tough than phsyical :)





Rapelling; you could see the tension on every face at the top, but once the first step into air was taken, then came the true fun! :D






Rafting at Dimna Lake; we were given ropes, rubber tubes and poles, the rest was up to our own imagination! Many a raft got sunk midway

no update at all?

Ah! Updates! Loads of updates! :)

So much has happened in the last few weeks!
Ranging from parties (also known as "wet nites" ) to outbound village trips to various adivasi places in Jharkand, Orissa and WB; from senior-junior sport competitions to 3 day adventure camps that push you to levels you would have never thought you could reach; from various committee meetings and elections to mid terms and various assignments, it's all happening out here!!!

Life at XL is a set of oxymornic situations (if you can call that so! )
Consider this; you got a wet nite that run to the wee hours of the morning, and voila! You have a mid term exactly on the next day!!!

On a rare occasion you prepare for class hoping to do some CP-giri (that's class participation :D) and the prof decides to do some different arbit stuff or a different chapter! :eh:

Or like the situation that the week you have an adventure trip, the lord decides to choose that specific weekend to bless you by opening out the skies :wow:

But still thats life at XLRI and we laaavvv it

But something special that has been happening a lot at XLRI for the last few weeks is.... won't say it, just have a look...

as the saying goes, a pic is worth a thousand words

I am back folks Just when you thought that I would become a lot less active in terms of posting (spamming I mean ) I am here with a new thread.
Learnings from two days stay @ XLRI

- Jamshedur is a very small town not much in terms of sightseeing
- You dont need to sightsee when you have so much "greenery" on the campus
- Classes begin at 8:30 in the mornings :(
- You can keep ninja_talli busy by giving him a lappy with games loaded on it
- Everything is way cheaper here whn compared to delhi so more value for money (See I have already learnt a bit of Fin Mgmt )

A lot of things have been goin on the last few days!
First things first! Mufasa, le aish kar Atleast the pics taken from my mobile! Enjaay maadi!

Bummers (BM-ers) are gettin bumped up completely, what with QT (read : probability to Organisational Behaviour to various other disciplines)!
In fact got a QT mid term tomorrow Dunno what is the scenario with the Irrers, but I am sure Keechu and Bugs will update on their status!

But life's interesting enuf! From 2nd floor vs 3rd floor fights to getting 'dunked' (ask some xler' what that means ) it's all happening out here!!!

Gotta go, got a class in 5 mins

Hmmmmm... so its a post being made after quite some time in this thread.... Nothing to wonder about it though... We are finally getting to know that B-skools are not all fun And that it can be hectic 'at times'

As i make this post, it is 4.25 AM by my watch... me doing the assignments related to Industrial Relations, Labour Laws and what not! Sleep has come down to its minimal level of anythiing between 2.5 to 5 hrs (although that does not perturb me since i have seen it all in the Infy training days at Mysore :D), although i am very regular at the Badminton court and the TT tables And i guess this is what Bskool life is all about!
It is about stealing time from a packed schedule and to not miss out on any of the life's fun! :biggrin:
I am afraid i have to get back to work...have a project deadline tmro and may have a surprise test or two on Monday... ;)

There has been tremendous response to the notice put up on the hostel noticeboards regarding Bugs' "misplaced" pyjamas...all hostelmates were eager to help...and consequently, Bugs' PINK pyjamas have been retrieved ...The pink pyjamas will be hung on the hostel noticeboard to serve as a stark warning to others who have the habit of "misplacing" their pyjamas in odd places!:wow:

Krishanu/Ninja will fill in the gory details on where and how the lost pyjamas were found...

Life has been awesome for the last few days here.. The preperatory course has ended as we look forward to the real War now

Most of the PMIR guys n gals had a Drink-Dance-Dinner party last night. We guys were celebrating our win against the Bummers in the Sports events

There were lots of dance and drinks... It was a hell lot of a fun... there were about 30 of us dancing almost till the midnight at the Centre Point... And ya, Bugs Bunny and Ninja arrived late... We celebrated BUGS ka Birthday by giving him some Kicks... The poor guy paid 250 bucks just to have an ice-cream and get some 20 odd kicks... Bechara :p

Tmro we plan to goto the Dimna Lake and an amusement park!

Btw I forgot to mention a few sports updates!!! (Yesterday's updates)

Volleyball (Men) :- PMIR Team won against the BM-B team in straight sets in the final! :eh: (me a bummer of course )

Throwball (Women) :- BM (Combined A&B;) Team won against the PMIR team; the match went into the third set! Point to be noted, the basketball match which was going in parallel to the throwball match; was paused temporarily Also the cheering support strength for both the girls team surpassed that of the cheering squad in the volleyball, football and basketball (even after summing them all!) by a huge margin

Who says in today's world women don't get support ;)

Basketball (Mixed) :- BM-B team lost to both BM-A and PMIR team, preparing a final match betn BM-A and PMIR team today. :)


P.S. An important point to notice, Krishanu was nowhere to be seen during all these matches whereas the entire college was on the ground, even the staff!!! Akhir ye banda tha kahan? ;)

this Bugs is taking a revenge on me... just a counter-attack.. against all the scams of his that i have (and will ) unearthed!!!

The truth is here-
1. i missed the brain mapping classes of IR cos they are the most boring types where the only piece of interest for guys is the chance to do some group tasks with the damsels of the class.. (and i think its the same reason why the gals attended it as well )

So it is obvious that a innocent Puy like me would maintain his self esteem and not get into such traps (Incidentally even Tinkerbell did not attend that class..bole toh Wise Puys Think Alike )

2. I attended the Finance class cos i did not want to waste my time doing nothing...i thought that is not what is expected of a dedicated Puy... ;)

3. And i did not attend any other class apart from the Basics of Finance...

Come on Tinker yaar! with so many interesting ppl in my class itself if i am not attending it, then its obvious that i wud not have any ulterior motive in attending the BM class where not only the quantity but even the quality of junta can be no match for the PMIR ppl :D

Thus, I rest my case!

some more learnings frm d experience till nw-
1.u need 7-10 days 2 knw each n every one of ur section( nw don't ask me hw much time u need 2 knw all batchmates:satisfie:)
2.bodhi tree is called 'bodhi tree' cz people get new n fresh ideas n ideologies sittin under it( those who wan 2 knw hw spend 1 hr under it frm night 12 to 1 w8 buddies).
3.'rosogulla' can eat 3 plates full of mutton, 3 plates full of rice n 6 chapatis n still feels hungry.......good going man.....u r d only 1 who is gonna make a profit wen our mess charges r concerned.
4.some professors r such good badminton players dat u better watch them playin frm a distance.

nyways...my first impressions...

Campus is awesome....full of greenery....gud hostels..was not expecting 2-seater rooms with this much space....again above expectation canteen ....in fact gr8 till now...

sports facilities r gr8...so much and also so close to hostels...gym...
.baddy...volley..football.basky...and much more to explore...


wat to say abt faculties...truly best..they have made subjects like stats and finance so interesting and easy to understand...but all r jus sayin one thin as of now...enjoy till 25th...i don understand wats happenin on 25th...:satisfie:


jamshedpur town is gud...although it does'nt have comforts and mall culture of a metro, but on the lighter side does'nt have traffic jams also...at least from hostel u can reach nywere in max. 10 mins....:satisfie::satisfie:......a small town with one lovers park ... one major market where u can get all the necessary things..even an original Levi's Tee for 130/-...wat more can u expect...

so overall a nice place to spend 2 most imp yrs of ur life....

Anyway bhai logon....here's my side of the XL story so far....
Reached XL on 13th night....with all my luggage...pulled everything up to ma room on second floor, only to find my room locked..:bad-word:..The guard immediately obliged...and opened the door through the electronic locking system....:)....Pretty neat eh...???....

Arranged my things and rushed down for dinner....Saw everything wrapped up....Asked the mess guys if anything was left...he immediately got it arranged and the food was good by all standards....and it has continued to be thus far....:)....

Over to the Proffs -

Prof. J Singh...Briefed us abt the History of XL...he was extremely impressive....and then there was Prof. Broca...The ultra passionate and enthusiatic Stats Prof....Man u shud see the smile on his face when he talks abt "box-plot", dispersion and skwness........but u dare not mention "histograms" n front of him...;)...
Then comes Prof. Sengupta - the Fin Prof....the perfect image of a stud Bong..:)..Teached us a couple of principles some driven absolutely by his "whims and fancies"..;)..and made things appear sooo easy....and u guys have already heard abt the heroics of Prof. Gangopadhyaye........

All in all the Profs have shown us what good teaching and command on one's subject means.....something we have hardly seen in our engineering days (barring the IITians)...

Coming over to sports....

Bhai logon...BM A is not all that phisaddi...jaisa ki abhi tak project kiya gaya hai....Abey penalty main to Argentina bhii Germany se haar gayi thi...!!!....woh doosri baat hai ki hum Volleyball main bhi haar gaye hain........But guys...just wait n watch...BM A will be back...with a BANG....

besides we also have a huge gang of PGites over here....it's really fun to find out guys sitting next to u, who u have exchanged a 100 pms with....me and Bugs met in somewhat the same way.......

Over all it's absolute fun over here....hopefully it'll continue after 25th as well as aaist all the warnings by the Profs....:satisfie:.....

Ah! Thats something I really appreciated yesterday night (although I was surfing the badaaa sa jaal (world wide web ) at that time. 1 guy (ankur i suppose) playing the guitar, while an assorted mixture of Tansens and Asha Bhosles around him singing in chorus! Although at times the loud pitch (of voices) was such that it could give Himesss an inferiority complex

Among the various junta piled up in the garden, we also had Philip Kotler, Peter Drucker, Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh lounging among us!!! :wow::confused: :nervous: (Surprised to hear that??? We'll post pictures of them soon ;))

Today's breakfast was another first time experience; the queue had gone up to new records; people were standing from the mess entrance right up to the pathways outside in the lawn That talks a lot about the quality of food in our mess right ( On a serious note, the food is quite decent :))

- Nice campus with a gym(Although I am yet to visit ) One of these days I just might manage to wake up at 6 am and go to the gym
- As you all know by now,we won against BM in footbal
- I was part of the unbreachable defence of PMIR
- The concept of weekends does not exist here Classeson sundays :(
- This is the first time I am visting the library (posting this from a comp in the library)I wandered into the section where theykeep all the journals andhigh funda books :wow:but I ran out of there in no time I was actually looking for some fiction books
-For now the pace is really relaxed so we have a lotta free time. But the profs keep warning us that its gonna get very very difficult once the actual course begins.:shocked:

Will post more later and will be more regular once we get net conn in our hostel rooms :biggrin:

just for your information ,as the seniors told us that for the last two years XL has retained the trophy at the XL-IIM c meet.....and let me warn u sid that the scene doesnt seem to change this year too...(m sayig this after wat i saw in the sports field yesterday)...
seemed its not a b-school but a s- school(sports).....

the sports facilities seems to be ok ok here...but we will be more appretiative once the seniors join us and tell us more about how the things are done..

Second Match BM-A vs PMIR; match again going into PS; PMIR team narrowly winning by a score of 4-3

Umm.... Sports meet consists of only Football, Volleyball (both for guys) and Throwball (obviously for girls!) among the PMIR, BM-A and BM-B teams (Since BM consists of 120 team, it has been divided into A & B team; your's truly in B)

Volley ball & Throw ball sessions for today; football sessions got over yesterday!

First Match BM-B vs BM-A; the match went into "penalty shootouts"; B team winning easily by a score of 3-0

Second Match BM-A vs PMIR; match again going into PS; PMIR team narrowly winning by a score of 4-3

Third match which turned out to be a trial for the final match two days later; was abandoned at half time; due to unseen "tiring" reasons

So pro bhaiya.... the game was phutbaal; not badminton :-P
And PMIR team did not fully win over the BM team; not yet :-P
Bug's spear still has notclash against Talli's armour!

XLRI - Beautiful campus. Decent ratio of gender; naturally the PMIR with a more healthy one!

Except for the TATA areas, the rest of the city is a mess! Reminds me of Gujarat especially the old parts of the gujarati cities :biggrin:

Had a two day "holiday" as classes started only today. Went to the market area then to buy some basic commodities. Here in J'pur, there is no concept of meter in autos; it's all between you and the 'ric owner. So it all depends on ur "negotiating" skills; which in just a short period of 2 days showed how good negotiation skills we had! Most of the time we just went along with what the ric owner demands. Ye IT wale na, paise ki value nahi jante :-P
Had a lot of chat in the city; at rates just around 5 bucks each dish! I love J'pur!!

In pune, I thought the city transportation sucks; what to do with the rickety buses and noisy ric's! Here in J'pur its even worse! There is NO city transportation; maybe there might be one; but haven't seen one in the last two days :eh:

Either way, I never felt more desperate for my Pulsar My roomie better sends it here by this weekend!

Had a first "serious" class session today; Descriptive Statistics!!! It was all greek to me Everything went overhead! Bah! Who cares! I got a seat next to a cute chick :lookroun:

hmmm... Finally this thread hasd been opened... talli allowing Bugs to do so

Life till nnow in the past 36 hrs have been fine... humid weather to start with but then rain gods came to oyur rescue today...

rooms are fine (when compared with DCE )
rooms should have been much better (when compared to Infy Mysore )

anyways, a lush green campus is good for the eyes... gals?? ummm...have spotted a few of them... waiting to see more of them

every room in the campus (except the mess and hostel rooms ) have ACs operating at sub 15 degrees ...

have tried out the gym already...there is also a cool Baddy court, and a grocery whose owner sits with an Apple Mac book :wow::wow::wow: (Talking of Status!!! )

so some other imp. points to remember..........

the hostels(mens) u mite not like it in the first go(1949 set up)..but soon u wil realise old is gold....very well ventilated....:)

lots of sports facilities on the campus....baddy,volley,basket ball,tennis...to name a few...

dnt wear shorts in the library atleast :))

rest as the events unfold....
