Students Union elections are successfully completed at the college. I was part of the experience again this time. Came to know about the power centers in the college. Finally, the results are announced and I have been elected as Treasurer. I am very happy for this. Waiting to get into the Union from this January. Now that became true.

Starting 19th June, we have had a series of guest lectures as part of our CHRO talk series...

So far, we have had 10 guest lectures...Almost all the guest lecturers were at the ranks of Director and Vice-President

It's one of those things at TISS that make you feel great...Normally, these people might not address meetings where the audience is below managerial level...And we, who are taking our baby-steps in the world of HR, are being addressed by them...Their insights and their perspectives add to one's repertoire of knowledge big time...It's a privilege to say the least :)

Phew!!! It's been a long week and to add to it we have sessions from 9 AM to 7 PM tomorrow
But the silver lining is we have a holiday this sunday

We were allotted our respective field-work organizations today...Even after a long session today, we were excited about it and were cheering as names of students and his/her organization were announced

It's just now that I realized that it's been a week at this awesome place

Yesterday, I reached the campus at 7-30 AM and went back home at 11-00 PM

Seniors treated us with a dinner meal yesterday

And today, I came at 10-00 AM and went back at 3-00 PM and then

We have elected our CR and TISS is gearing up for the welcome party by TISS Camparts
It was raining heavily during the first 1-2 days but now, it's been a while that we have been inundated

So guess we will have to wait for some more time for "MeghMudra"

That's about it for now...I never seem to feel that I have slept enough

Also, the DH food is quite good (particularly the breakfast)

Yes, we all are EXTREMELY EXCITED to be here...It's much more than what I had ever thought of...No words to describe the feeling :)

We had a 3-day orientation which concluded with a talent show...Awesome performance by seniors

Today was our first day in our respective schools...We were divided in groups of 20 and then we were off to industry visit...The respect and the admiration for TISS was very visible there...Never felt so much honoured in my life :)

The diversity at this place is AWESOME...We have people from probably all possible sorts of backgrounds, regions, cultures, states and what not...And we all are TISSians here...Superb feeling

And yes, it has started raining in Mumbai and the campus looks pristine in rains

Life at campus is back. Yes, the new academic year is started with full of colors all around the campus. Junior bunch seems quite excited about joining.

Coming to my course specific details, people are worried about the composition of the junior batch. It's heavily focused on male-engg-it work ex people. Me, being one of them, not liking that domination. Have to see what in store for us.

My batch mates are coming back from their Summer internships and everyone has lot of stories to tell and share. The legend of the course at TISS is experienced to a greater extent at the companies. The way they respect you, the way they give time in their busy schedules etc will just blow your mind away. The respect for the college and course increases by leaps and bounds. Its that part of time, everyone feels like true HR professional.

To just sum it up, we are SENIORS now

1. When will tiss send us info on what time to reach tiss on 15th June 2012?
2. What will be out first week/month etc like?
3. What is the dress code for first day and dress code in general?
4. Will we get any email/letter welcoming students to TISS?

1) The session will commence from 9 AM...Reach accordingly...They won't send any e-mail/letter
2) Would be like the next 2 years-->lots of learning and lots of fun
3) Not very sure but I guess there is no dress code at TISS...Still, seniors might be in the best position to answer this

i am so happy 2 get selected into one of da best institute in India.. now wat worries me is da life i m gonna have in tiss for the next 2 years. when i came for the GD/PI i was'nt really happy with the atmosphere der...most of dem wer busy wid themselves..hardly very few wer talking..and dat too very formally..dis left me very sad..and a whole lot of dem seemed too Hi-Fi....coming from prestigious colleges ..now i come from a simple college/place and i am worried whthr will i b able 2 adjust with da life der....can da seniors tell me more about da kinda students who come der...and da life der plz??

Though I have spent just a few days of my life at TISS, I have got a feel of what the next 2 years would be like...My status says it all in a single sentence :-)

I attended my GDPI at the new campus and went for document verification at the old campus...Must say, it's not very difficult to forget that you are in Mumbai once you are inside TISS campus...It's so pristine

Met a super senior there and had an awesome interaction with him...Discussed about how the life would be for the next two years and what all is in store for us :lookround:

Went for doc verification early so also managed to seal a good deal for accommodation :p

Had lunch in the dining hall and loved it (well, at least for now

The session starts 15th june...3 days orientation and the regular classes commence from 18th june...Till then, :drinking:

Your cousin is ill informed about the courses in TISS . we have 20+ courses in 6 schools (school of management being one of them)TISS(its a university) ranging from social work,disaster management, counselling etc...

the info ur cousin shared is with respect to "social entrepreunership" course and they are encouraged (infact TISS provided seed capital for some entrepreuners) to venture into entrepreunership and placements were done away with for that course

Coming to the HR course, its as similar as any other college (infact better with its unique USP of fieldwork concept) and we get summer placements in regular companies . FYI , I am doing my summers with Johnson & Johnson and my friends in other big MNCs ( HUL,Deutsche,Microsoft etc) which are no way the NGOs u are refering to

Yesterday was one of the memorable days in TISS. The final results of the exam are declared and the next batch is gearing up to join the college. Congratulations to all the selected candidates and all the best to all wait list candidates.

It takes few days for the feeling of the result to sink in. You just can't believe that you made it. For some TISS fanatics like me, the result wont sink in even after an year. But when these kind of result declarations, test results happen, you will come to know the value of the place you stay. Else days will be like normal.

Once again, from the batch of 2011-13, my hearty welcome to the Junior Batch.

Today is the last day of first year though we are done with exams yesterday , we had a work shop which is a follow up of assesment centre happened at the begining of the semester .

we failed in getting our personal learning journal cancelled and hence supposed to submit it before we leave for our home towns:nono:

I have not yet submitted mine , forget submitting not yet started writing mine

It is the last day of entire SAI SADAN (the name of apartment in which i resides) members being together ..we had some serious, violent fun in the last one year

Rameez, amit, manoj, deepak and Hemanth , the members of sai sadan (most famous and active flat in comparsion to athur parks, nandanvans :P:)

Even though the end of second semester is most looked for , i am in a state of nirvana right now with no apparent happiness on leaving the campus for next 20 days ;)
we are so used to the routine in the last 4 months and never realised how the days passed by
most of the students started getting their projects and people have started flocking library to read the concepts

Today is one prominent day in the life @ TISS . Its important for more than one reason

It marks the end of first year for us and officially last day for our dear seniors ..

we had celebrated farewell party 2 days back ( in between the exams ) ..today for the first time we (batches of 2010-12 and 2011-13 ) wrote exam in the same class room at unearthly hours to write final exam ( 7pm to 9pm) ....its an occasion in itself where seniors paper has instruction some thing as follows " the answer should be written in 10 lines , exceeding the limit attracts negative marks" ...and we have an open book exam where in despite keeping the books open , we hardly had any thing to write in the papers

we had one more submission to do tomorow and then would be leaving for our places to be back in 20 days to join for summers .....

the interviews for 2012-14 batch had already started and its quite interesting to play the role what our seniors had played for us an year back

Time literally flies when u are in TISS..........

the famed Mulla's exam is on friday which keeps me and most of my classmates awake from the last couple of days ..the icing on cake is that we also have employee resourcing project submission on friday which i have not yet started analysing ...

hopefully i survive this week ..........

I did survive the week but bruised a lot :banghead:

4 days (and nights of course) of studying comp & ben had gone down the drain as mulla bowled over with his paper ..

the fun part is that we spent 3-4 days for 25 marks of Mulla's exam and then did analysis of 35 % weightage carryinng ER assignment in the next 5 hrs to send just at the nick of the moment

But as the old saying says : once it rains, it floods ..

we have 1 viva , 2 submissions, 1 presentation,1 final exam all with in the next 3 days and not to forget they are damn tough

but today evening lot of time was spent on deciding whether to participate in a case study competition (final winner would be going to PARIS) whose dead line is 1st march....that 's all for Life @ TISS now and i would get back to work on my presentation of Performance management before studying readings for OB class

these are just some of the questions of 10 rounds of QUIZ@TISS 6th edition held today in TISS by our alumnus Vijayan (1984 batch) and Arun (2007 batch).

its an intense fight all through out but with happy endings as quiz masters are generous in giving prizes to all the teams

our team of MAS (Manick, Anvesh,Shruti) came 3rd in the quizzing which tested every thing from operations, business, HR , general knowledge , movies etc etc...

one event which all the future batches should definetely look forward to

The hostel allocation

this might be a minor issue for other B schoolers as they stay in hostels from day 1 of college but for Tissians who had to stay outside in our own places for first year , its definetely an event

the allocations are done on random basis with a choice of choosing roomie and i got the hostel allocated in old campus , where much of life happens in TISS and not to forget , the colorful campus too

I got a twin sharing room (lucky enough as there are 3 sharing , 6 ,10 sharing rooms too:shock:)

would be shifting to hostel in summer vacation or after the vacation

Things have pretty much heated up in second sem

Just to give a glimpse :

there are 8 projects to be submitted , 1 research proposal and final exams all with in the next 20 days

the fact that these projects carry heavy weightages doesn't help us in any way

The fun part is that our seniors keep on saying that second sem is the HELL sem ,which doesn't mean 3rd would be easier but we would get used to it

Farewell party would be held soon and the next batch TISSIANS are already getting their ammunation ready to face interviews which start in second week of march

our hostel allocation for second year would be done tomoro and have to see whether i would be getting old campus hostel (which incidentally is full of life) or new campus (where our classes are held and would be convinient to make a quick run to classes) , either ways it is good for me

The TISS written test results are out. I was on the other side exactly one year back. Don't know how one year has passed so fast. Involved in planning mentoring activities for juniors. Will come up with actual details in a week or so.

Coming to news on campus, Students Union elections are the present hype in the campus. Lot of politics, campaigning, cartels, bargaining etc and I am loving being part of that. The future care takers of Union will be known by Republic day.

Sem 1 is the honey moon period in TISS.. Use to have hell lot of free time . In second sem , free time gone and HELL remained

with 8 HR subjects and the famed mulla and its compensation is keeping every single day busy..

no visits to gym , no roaming around the city , its race against the time.not that we are complaining though ..its kind of fun ..

seniors placements are going to happen in near future (very near to be precise)

Once every one gets placed , its time for with farewell, placements party and what not

After a long time...the same dialogue repeats again, Sem 2 is like living a MBA life at TISS :sneaky:

What a week it has been!!! Started with Alumni meet and then our school level events and now the main college festival, RESONANCE.

Finally!!! We are done with our School Level events, Tattvabodha and Srijan. The turn around is good for both the events and we got good feedback about the kind of events conducted from the participants.

Tattvabodha is annual meet of School of Management and Labour studies where Business people from across the industries participate in a round table discussion on a topic. This years topic's focus was on "Celebrating Diversity".

Srijan a students event consisting of different kinds of events where in students from other management colleges can participate and win exciting prizes. This year we had conducted three kinds of events as a part of Srijan. A case study on Compensation, a case study on Training and Development of Skills and the last one a negotiation role play between Management and Union. Four teams(XLRI,NMIMS,MDI,ISB) have been qualified for final round at campus. Teams from XLRI and NMIMS walked away with first and second prizez respectively.

Resonance main cultural and literary competitions will start from tomorrow Dec 21 and will end on Dec 22. Another two days of festive mood.

Life at TISS is now in full flow. We have chased Compensation Fast Cat very hard and we thought we almost caught it. Today it has again come to form and blown us away with its skills which are way beyond of our expectations. People, who have faced Fast Cat only can understand the above lines

Apart from that, OB-1,L&D-1;,Marketing are in full swing now. But this week, I hope we will be little relaxed as we are going to do M-ward project. TISS had adopted M-ward and the complete TISS is taking part in this initiative, including faculty. Basically, it is a slum area where we will be surveying the houses to know about their life style and how it can be improved. As a first step, the complete next week starting from tomorrow, we will be working on this.

Resonance and Alumni meet preparations have also picked up the pace. Resonance is happening on Dec 19-22 with School level events happening on 19 and 20, college level events in 21 and 22. Alumni meet is happening on Dec 17 and 18. But there is lot of enjoyment in participating in all these activities which acts a refreshment from regular case studies and assignments

What a night we had yesterday!!! Both boys and girls teams of SMLS have performed exceptionally well. Girls team has won the title also. There was many moments of excitement, anxiety. People who have missed yesterday night in the Basket ball court have missed a memorable page of their TISS life.

Today and tomorrow, we have prelims of Resonance events. Teams/Individuals who get selected in these prelims will represent TISS in the main events of Resonance and compete against the best of the best participants from other colleges. Another interesting thing is, we have "Movie Marathon" from 10PM today in the new amphi theater till tomorrow morning. Hope I wake all the night in the midst of many assignments piled up.

All in all, this second semester is so much buzzing with lot of events.

did not forget . But the fact that i could not continue after the marathon session of 3 hrs on day 1

But there are some good learnings in the short span like speaking clear and crisp,showing confidence while speaking
the best part of the program is that, it is organised for entire college and gave a good opportunity to listen to diverse views

Sports updates: The loosing streak of "school of management and labour studies " continued with Foot ball match loss 3-1 to School of social work

But with the efforts put in by batch mates working on assignment till 2 in the night and making it for practice matches by 6 gives a reason to cheer

Anchun has forgot to mention about one of the important updates: Noetic Certificate course on Leadership. It was a 2.5days workshop started on Friday evening and went till Sunday night. Nice to see a good turn up of 250+ students even on weekend. They have discussed many leadership qualities like Deep Listening, Elevator Speech, Feedback mechanism, Handling complaints etc. There was more of Class participation than lectures. It was worth to spend the week end there.

My field work is also in BPCL. I was expecting that I should not go with Anchun, for various reasons ;). But when I saw both of our names under BPCL, I was disappointed :(. In my 5months at TISS, for the first time, I am recognized for being a Mechanical Engineer.

Feelings are mutual dude....I am like this when i have seen my FW partner as Hemanth:nono: and like this when he was thrown to seperate unit which is far from mine

The experience at BPCL . Where else u can find coffee being served to ur table when u lavishly spend ur time on Face book

Jokes apart, this is my first brush working with govt organisation and i already started loving the work culture . From the short span of 2 days , i can see people working so sincierly yet having their share of fun. It looks more like a extended family setup rather than a corporate head quarters..
Even the normal images associated with govt offices like piles of paper work on every table is still present, BPCL works like a typical private organization

And they do care for interns like us . My mentor who is deputy to the DGM-HR spent enough time explaining and finding our interests...

And the best of all is the food at BPCL ..and the fact that it comes for free made it more ( who said there are no free lunches)

my opinions on BPCl may change at later point of time with further interactions ..:biggrin:

Forgot to mention the occasion for celebrations in the previous post

TISS is celebrating Platinum Jubilee Celebrations (1936-2011) this year

Nov 14th Marked the day for the begining of celebrations. we had a musical night for all the students, staff and their families (around 2000) . More events to continue till Dec 21st .
Its been an honour to be part of an historical moment in TISS. . The sleepy TISS campus is roaring with life nowadays

The Intra school Sports celebrations started today and School of Management & Labour Studies (To which HR belongs) Lost games in both Men & Women's cricket. The surprise element is women's team gave a tough chase where as men's team rather had a humiliating defeat (49 while chasing 115 in 6 overs ). But its been quite fun cheering for both teams .

Better results are expected in other games (volley ball,Football, Basket ball) as the inspired folks are meeting tomorow morning at 6 Am for practice

On HR front, unlike the first semester (which is pretty much chilled out in first 2 months) the rigour had already reached its peak with two mulla sessions to take care of every week (Seniors literally use to work every single day on Comp & Ben so as to finish up his work while he handled single session per week to them :(
Also the inundo of the articles to be read from Organisational behaviour & Marketing is not helping our cause either..

One good thing in all this chaos is that I got the famed Field work organisation over the generations in TISS "Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited (Famed not just for the work experience but more so for the Awsome food available ) and also the fact that office is pretty close to Marine drive would give me enough places to visit every wednesday and thursday

i just want to know a couple of thing..
Firstly, If i apply for a mphil program, when will i get to know if i am selected? i mean when will be the final list be out, which month precisely?

Secondly, like it is mentioned in the official webside, only people who have a Mphil or teaching experience are eligible to apply for Phd? i mean we cant apply immediately after PG?


i need these info desperately pls help!

We had Assessment Centre conducted for our batch today in which 16 people(divided into 4 teams of 4 each) participated . As part of one of the exercise we are supposed to come up with a plan to conduct team building exercises.

Scenario:
A Manufacturing firm contains 20 design engineers who are highly talented but have issues working together as a team. All Traditional HR team building workshops, outdoor team building activities failed . It is of utmost importance to the organization to imbibe team spirit in these individuals and hence the responsibility is given to us. The following is what was the result of our imaginative prowess and more so of one of our team mate(of 4 team members)

As the discussion progressed , this friend of ours , lets call him X(he would kill me , if I write his name ) came out with a wonderful idea of creating a crisis as done in the film Chakde(where all the girls fight together in ice cream parlour and thus forms team bonding) and use the same funda here ..Now we started mulling over how to create a crisis

Now we have one other very very smart banda in our team , whom we will call MCP(as he prefers calling, and you would agree a few moments later) gave a wonderful idea of locking all the designers in the warehouse of the factory and creating a fire with cardboards and stuff ..(Yup..his ideas are a bit on the extreme side, and employees of his future organization..BEWARE)Finally after some more thought process we decided using just smoke bombs and explosions outside the warehouse (locking the designers still remain the same) . One addition we have done is to introduce 2-3 firefighters and also 3 of us ( the only girl of our group opted out to take part in action, Girls are much smarter than guys :P)would be made part of designer group as new joinees and the entire drama in warehouse starts out with our supposed induction program

Well..seems my narration is very confusing even to me ..so before breaking down it into sequence of steps lets go back and justify why one of our team mate is MCP..when it is announced the designers are 20, he started discussion by saying lets assume all 20 are men (ofcourse on the protest of girl he gave way for diversity by mentioning 10 guys and 10 ladies [the biggest mistake , which u would realize later])

Now the sequence of steps are as follows:
(1)Get the designers to warehouse on the pretext of induction of 6 people into designing team( they do not have any hint of training program , as they had attended many similar programs earlier with no result)
(2)Once every one is in ,a crisis would be created with doors getting locked, power off, smoke bombs at areas of warehouse and explosion outside warehouse (dont blame that Budding HR managers are getting spoiled by movies )
(3)Now our firefighters get into action and creates panic around and at the same time ordering groups of people to perform tasks like breaking ventilators,helping one another to escape through ventilators
Our objective is that Life changing moments change people and they would more appreciate the team work and jell well as a team with those who saved their lives

We made a presentation to the external observers and to the participants and every thing going so well, when all of a sudden our X gave wings to his creative talents (By the way , he is much better than RGV  )

So the Following presentation is given full credit to X:
Now 10 are women and 10 are men , and as women cant climb the ventilators on their won , they take the help of men and in the process we have teams of 2 developed :P

We had a lot of fun as we started with forming teams and finally ended up presenting an idea of forming Cupids in the team 
Overall its fun filled session which culminated with group dinner at AISWARYA which was 50% sponsored by Satish Shukla
Would remain as one of the cherishable days of semester 2

Good to be back to Mumbai and real excited to face sem2

though the mails from faculty forecasts a scary semester 2..we are geared to take it

seems the first one week is kind of relaxed, but its just deceptive as experienced from semester 1

lots of activities lined up this semester and ofcourse parties too with the first party (Summers thanks giving party) coming soon

Though I am left with another 5days of vacation, I am eagerly waiting to go back to campus. I really miss late night discussions at DM canteen, Group Assignments, Bakhars at Sai Sadan, Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, Alumni Night preparations... and the list goes on.

From what we heard from seniors, this semester is going to be really hectic with all the HR faculty taking classes . We came to know how the next 4-5months going to be through some sample mails from faculty during vacation

Today, on occasion of Teachers' day, we have prepared Greeting cards for all the faculty at TISS and have kept inside their rooms by today morning. We have worked yesterday from 7pm to 12:30am and it was totally fun. These occasions are the best ones to mingle with students from other courses. Complete activity is organized by TISS Students union. Kudos to them for planning these kind of activities.

On the other note, packed schedules have started in HRM&LR; course Tough times are ahead...

The entire college is going over a make over and preparing itself for the event

Manthan is happening this year , but not under the brand manthan

since we are having Resonance (Platinum jubilee celebrations) we will not be conducting school level events seperately ...

so the events of Manthan would be conducted but for this year they would be done under the brand name of Resonance

coming to life at TISS:

Its been one heluva ride in the last 4 months culminating with summer internships...
would be missing the TISS life for the next 15 days

with the prospects of facing Mulla and his faced Compensation subject , life is gonna be more interesting in the coming days

Back to PG, after many days. As Anchun has mentioned the last 3weeks have been THE hectic days at TISS. The first semester has completed with a happy note and people have rushed/rushing back to their home towns.

The complete semester is one hell of a ride and none could digest the fact that we have completed one semester so fast. The vacation was the much awaited one for all of us. Also TISS Platinum Jubilee celebrations have also started. December mid is going to be full of Buzz in the campus with lot of happening.
