Your boring answer shall be "There are no guaranteed holidays in TISS; you may have lectures in weekend and on public holidays esp with the guest lectures; yes you do get a longish Diwali & Christmas breaks...but most of them use it to prepare for placement interviews"

3. but that means u end up having more fun than u could in any other b school, make tons of friends, have a lot of vella moments.
4. the curriculum is less hectic, allowing you explore mumbai, chill at campus with other course people.
5. we have something called fieldwork - spend 2 days in office - quite fun actually - u get to travel,eat and observe.


the bunch of people who are my classmates here are some of the best ive known, it is the nicest bunch of smart people.

Continuing from where Amit left off, some of you might feel that the TISS HR course is not rigorous. However, sample this. We work 7 days a week, including 2 days of Field work (Wednesday and Thursday) where we are posted in organizations all over Mumbai. These two days we also have to manage the readings for Friday and prepare for tests and discussions. We have classes through Saturday and Sunday to make up for the 2 days of academic loss due to Field work.
Add to it regular assignments, projects and case studies that are typical of any B School. However, what really makes this place special is the diversity of the batch, the divergent view points on topics and the tremendous scope for peer learning. Add to it some very accomplished research oriented faculty and the option to take up research in an HR related field in the 3rd and 4th sem, and you have a course which is similar to an MBA program but also helps individuals discover themselves. More later....

Oh, you don't know how badly I envy you. Could have had the same things to share as had converted MSW and was waitlisted (4) for HR, but couldn't join MSW as our last semester exams happened in July. Anyways,there's no stopping this year. TISS, here I come.

Hi Amit,

Dont worry too much. GDs can go either way depending on the group. In case you have a noisy group, try your best not to add to the noise and try and knock some sense into your groupmates (Something to the tune of " If we dont collaborate and allow participation, the entire group would get disqualified").

For the PI, you need to be well prepared. Read up about your areas of interest, current affairs, prepare your answer to "Why HR" well and you should stand a good chance of making it.

However, please remember that selection into any BSchool is relative. you may be brilliant, but if 60 more are more brilliant than you are, then you will miss out. That doesnt mean that there is anything wrong with you. So chin up!!!

So id like to go back to the ohh-so-dreaded exam season with the commencement of September...

Nights spent racking our brains over dangerous looking books n HR gyaan from never-ending ppts.. n ya !! how can i forget the component where we tried to understnd society !

N then the summer placement fever creeping up alongside exams.. It was a great time with the whole batch standing up for each other, a truly unique n one time experience which bound everyone closer..

The best surprise was the diwali vacation that students @ TISS get to enjoyy.. It found almost all outstation students running away to their respective homes to catch up on some "ghar ka khaana" n a welcome break from the past few months crazzy schedules...n yeah the best part was the participation by the both the batches in varios inter B school events across the country..

Now everyones back to the campus refreshed n rejuvenated to face an even more hectic sem 2.. I sure missed the rustic old campus,the upbeat new campus,the droning lectures that never seem to end,loads of learning n fun during the course...

Now all set for a super hectic semester 2 loaded with more HR gyaan !

Hey I am a first time MBA/MA aspirant, I have 3 yrs of HR Work Ex with an HR Outsourcing firm, I am very keen on HR as a profession since time immortal, I believe that apart from the objective section there is a subjective section as well, could you give me some idea about the array of topics that could come up in the 2nd portion of the test?

All of us rotting away at our respective homes after the curtains came down on a truly hectic first semester and summer placement process. (I know you would want the details right away, will ask PlaceComm and let you know if I can post the batch details here )

It was a whirlwind of a ride - not allowing us to settle in any sort of rhythm at any point in time. Had a fundoo experience till date - now we all await the second semester which is going to much more challenging because we move away from the basics and get into the nitty gritty of the core HR subjects.

Let us see how it pans out :thumbsup:

recently attended the 'dharohar' didnt get to meet the super juniors, but yea juniors were there. it was fun all right.. dam! im jealous of my junis.. they are all chilling on the other side.. u know come to think of it. the grass is not always greener on the other side.. cuz during my 2 years at tiss (08-10), never once i wanted to be on the other side..

2 years was like a breeze on an old yezdi bike.. all righty.. i gotta move my bottoms and yank up the excels..

Okay... what better time to post on this thread. exams fever is on and just to take a break from economics, i find myself posting here. Life has been really
busy for the past one month now. MANTHAN was FUN. I have still not developed an art which makes me aptly express the craziness, celebration, happiness etc that surrounded the event. 110 students slogging it out to make an event happen and boy didnt it happen. Faridkot's performance and the singing competition were a highlight. XLRI and MDI took the honors in the student events. The final day saw Mr ADI GODREJ addressing us on our leadership summit TATVABODHA. And later we got our chance to celebrate at the alumni dinner, DHAROHAR held in JUHU.
But the real slogging started after that. All the assignments, submissions, quizzes, presentation that were held up due to manthan showed their ugly face here we are giving a test or some assignment everyday. Final exams are on and will be be there till 13th. Its been a total roller coaster, the past 2 weeks. But who is complaining. The rains have ceased in Mumbai and so has our fun. Hope to hit the party road on 13th. For now, economics is what i am into.

The annual festival of HRM&LR; @ TISS , encompassing student events, cultural events and the corporate conference.....

This time its different .. looking at the new opportunities and new excitement the theme for Manthan 2010 is ... "THINK, EXPLORE, CREATE....

And yeah ...both the batches of 2011 and 2010 sure hope to set our minds on thinking, exploring and creating for the next 3 days .. i.e. 23rd to 25th sept...

Final preparations are all going in full swing.. right now have a team of people roaming around putting up posters, working on the communication part... must say the campus has never been so vibrant...n im luvin it !!!
Looking forward to interacting from the wide range of Management institutitons, grad schools across the country ... this seems to be the perfect platform to et to know more people.:) So we have the best brains in the countries racking their prized possesions ( called brains) to provide some out of the world solutoin to a mind-boggling case (think tank n udghosh)...n then we have perfectly synchronized dance groups dancing away to the rythm of intense competition( thats antaragini)...all of this while the background of Kalrav, the singing competition.

N then what would a fest be without some hip hop naach gaana... so we have the breathtaking band FARIDKOT performing live...

Cant wait for manthan to start....but heyyy wait... feells like its already started :)...

With the fervour of independence day had lots of activities on the campus... would love to talk bout this creative initiative by students of HRM & LR ... by CAMPARTS ( the arts club)..."Celebrating Togetherness" inaugurated by the director and spread over a span of 3 days , lots of workshops were organised and we had this event called "Make a mark"

N yes !! the campus sure came out with loads of colors thanks to the event called "Rang de basanti : tatoo making" ..

It seriously is a wonder that people so diverse come together under one roof of TISS n celebrate the spirit of our country ...thats patriotism unplugged :)...

sure am already getting so addicted to all that TISS is ... n im sure theres more in store ahead

Where was I .. back to the lectures n assignments n pre-reads.. boy .. theres lots n lots to keep u busy .. lotsa scope to explore urself ..

Just discovered this with the wide rane of on-campus activities .. ranging from arts committees to workshops and talks by eminent personalities such as Mr jairam Ramesh...

Attended the first meet of the music society and twas good fun .. singing n reenergising .. theyr to come up with loads of plans ahead...hope to have a official band someday :)


Had college freshers with a performances by CAMPARTS, a gala time we had wherein we interacted with other courses students and pretty much chill out.. later realised it was the much needed refreshers to get through the gruelling months ahead...

Gruelling yess... especially when it comes to Foundation Courses.. something unique to this insti , helps u understand society, politics , india and what not ... but trudging through reels of study material to undestand the viewpoints of Marx and Weber sure was an uphill task for an engineer like me.. No more insights on this one ... its best when its experienced first hand :)..

Now some serious stuff such as elections and selections of important committees like placecom, core comm , union reps etc etc .. things became hectic by the day .. not to mention the ever increasing loads of assignnments and tests...

Posting for the first time since I kissed TISS :)
THe past 2.5 months have been a a great rollercoster journey...For any HR enthu person TISS is the place to be...
Initially had a 3 day induction which got the batch of 2010-12 acquainted uswith the institute, its ideology, the culture and was our first window to what the following two years would be like ...
1 thing I can truwly vouch for is the unique bland of different people you get to meet at this wonderful place.. people from different backgrounds, regions, both national and international , sporting different cultures..yet bound together by this unique thing called TISS. left me mesmerized and waiting for more...
We got into the grind with regular lectures, interaction with guest faculty et all, when Mumbai welcomed the rains and with it , we TISSians welcomed Megh Mudra : The Rain dance...the perfect platform for interaction with all the courses and with seniors.. it proved to be the much needed ice-breaker and refresher ...
Back to the ususal routine of learning the basics of HRM , understanding the diverse facets of society throough foundatioin courses, the learning is truly enhanced with the excellent quality of faculty, and a diverse and keen peer group to interact with...Must say the acads pressure is quite a lot.. and accordingly is the take away in terms of learning....
