The chill over here has suddenly dropped, much to many's surprise and disappointment. Makarsakranti is being celebrated throughout this part of India, which also means lotza patang-bazi!!!! It's also a festive season across other parts of India. Therefore,

I wish all our well-wishers, viewers, aspirants, AND the junta of SIOM a

For our batch the MBA classes finally got over on the 7th of this month. It has been a tough ride. Trust me, with all those assignments, presentations, class tests, project works and what not coming to an end, I feel all the more happy and satisfied with my journey for the last 19 months. At the same time the classroom experience has been a livid as well a chance to interact with some of the best peers and experts that I could possibly have ever got. Our winter internship, or the Six Sigma project will commence from 17th of this month till 28th Feb. And then will come the 4th Sem exams. And after that we all will leave the campus. Most probably this will be the last time I will ever be seen in a classroom. Having said that, all good things must come to an end!

The campus has suddenly been, as if, abandoned. Most of our batch-mates are spending their holidays with their families, me being an exception. I'm trying to kill my time by watching movies, playing Badminton, Cricket, and TT, and of course lotza sleep!!! Yeah, Sleep: what seemed like a luxury all these 19 months, suddenly is not expensive anymore! :)

On a not-so-boring note, we participated in this year's Nashik Run held on Sunday, 13th Jan. Braving all odds, including a chilly Nashik Morning we "somehow" managed to make our way till Mahatma Nagar. There were more than 18,000 people already there, ready to Run for Nashik! A 5 km stretch it was, it was more of fun and enjoying a breezy Sunday morning for most, rather than just completing the stretch. Yep, we ran, we all gasped for breath, and we all paused for a shot of water. BUT, we all did finish the run! And, apparently I was the only guy from the senior batch running along with my 25 junior-mates!

Only 2 months before I say adieu to this lovely place. And so are my posts on Life@SIOM in PG. Till then

You enjoy a challenge:- There is no one set way to do the job of an Operations Manager. Each company requires a different perspective and a lot of creativity when finding ways to increase efficiency and profits. Not everyone is meant to hold this position. It often gets very stressful, especially because the success or failure of the department/company is the sole responsibility of the Operations Manager. However, if you enjoy a challenge, then you will love this career choice.

Good prospects:- Operations Managers are needed in many different fields and varying sized companies. If you choose to pursue a career in Operations Management, you will likely spend a lot of time working up before gaining a high-level position. However, you will always find yourself with many different options thanks to your skills and training. Many Operations Managers change jobs as they gain experience and new opportunities become available to them.

@wakam dude world does not run on your likes and dislikes. As far as Symbi colleges are concerned, i guess aspirants are smart enough to make their decision . At postgraduate level people are smart enough to make decisions . Obviously You cannot compare symbi with IIM A , but in that case you cannot compare IIM A to Harvard .

I guess when we want people to participate, we are looking for maximum engagement .

wakaw we want maximum participation in the coming events from everybody so that we can have healthy competition. It seems you dont like competition my friend.

Our 3rd sem results got declared today, and needless to say I cleared them without any hiccups! So, 3/4 journey at SIOM is complete!

It's been more than 1 and half years since I came to SIOM, and here I'm now with only 2-3 months in my hands before I leave the campus. Nevertheless, it's been a mesmerizing and a memorable journey! :)

We also completed our Social Project, Project Sanchar, in the last week of Nov. And this is the very reason why I'm writing today. The concept of this year's Social Project was completely different. Instead of visiting some far-flung village we instead were approached by the Commissioner of Police, Nashik, Mr. Sarangal to study and understand the behavioral and working conditions of the policemen serving in various police stations in and around Nashik.

Working in Teams of 10, we zeroed down on 12 stations. My team was assigned the Nashik Road Police Station. It was to be a 3 day rigorous study of the environment in a Police station, and field trips if needed. Much to our anxiety it was to be for the first time that many of us actually went to a Police Station. So with lots of apprehension we went! But to our utter surprise we were greeted with open arms with smiling faces! With all the formal introductions and exchange of pleasantries over we began our work! We basically had to make them fill a very long questionnaire, watch their behavior and communication pattern w.r.t. their peers, subordinates, seniors, and the general public, and study the flow of information in their documentation. The work was tougher than we ever anticipated! U fist have to explain them what the whole exercise is all about, then explain them each question, and then also listen to their grievances! Phew!!!

One thing that really changed is my perception and attitude towards the Men in Uniforms. They slog for an average of 14-16 hours on a shift. None of them were given leave for the last 3-4 months, which included Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, and Diwali. The stations are heavily under-staffed, and there's severe lack of even the basic amenities like drinking water. They have been doing the same monotonous work for the last 20-25 years. Most of their morale let down, while many slog so as to bring in a good name to the Men in Khakees.

Needless to say, we as Public should realize this fact and change our attitude and perception towards them. The PSI helped us in a long way in understanding our requirements, and made sure that we were able to do our work without any glitches.

It was definitely a memorable and fulfilling experience for each one of us. Lots of learning and takeaways for each participant was there in the Project for sure. Hopefully our suggestions and remarks will be carefully heeded to and prompt actions in this regard will help in enriching their work in the future. :)

Well, I don't know how to carry forward with this :-P but one thing for sure it was a tremendous Durga Puja + Dandia combo night and engraved in the books of sweet memories of life. Starting from all those rituals and traditions be it style of lighting up 'dhunuchi' or be it steps of garbha were really enthralling. It was for sure glimpse of such a lively and spirited culture one straight from west and another from east altogether but left curiosity to explore such a ravish festival.
Thanks to all friends working either in foreground or in background from dawn to dusk and from dusk to midnight for such an eventful night for providing with some moments of delight. Waiting for the next year coming up with the same spirit.
Puys, I know it's quite late but it's worth sharing each and every moment with friends we enjoy here at SIOM no matter how late it's.

Exams got over on 15th Oct, and the new semesters got underway on 18th... would U believe it!!! I mean come on yaar, abhi toh exams khatam hue the... thoda rest lene ko bhi time nahi diya!

Yes yes, its the final sem of the final year for me now, & U can expect all the nostalgia filled, emotions drenched, memoirs soaked blah blah from me. Well not yet! We still have a lotza stuff to do while we are here, & need to make sure every bit of 'em is a memorable one. :)

Now what makes this post important is the fact that yesterday we celebrated Durga Pujo & Dandiya Night for the first time ever in SIOM! :D

Yeah guys, the junior 2012-14 guys did an freaking awesome work by putting up the 1st ever Durga Pujo & Dandiya celebrations right under the same roof! And U bet we enjoyed it to the core. Whether be it the Saree Drapping competition [], or the Gol-Gappe (or Phuchka, the debate continues) gorging competition, it was fun all the way. And then the beautiful ladies draped in Bengali Saris performed a beautiful nritya, followed by couple of group songs! But my favorite was the Gunuchi dance, which is a famous dance typically performed by the Bengalis. It received a deserved applause from everyone.

And then came what all we have been waiting for: the Dandiya Fever!
It was a beautiful sight; everyone taking on the floor, making circles, trying to match each others step-in-step (I made sure I stayed away, lest I scared away everyone with my Dancing tricks!). Now the fun part over here was the fact that most of the junta (or rather say almost all of 'em) didn't know how to do Garba!

So what do you do under the circumstances? You either take a crash-course from those who know it (the Gujaratis; U see they just do it flawlessly... don't ask me how), or U start innovating & create your own steps & style right there at the dance-floor! And its the latter that was happening! People started clashing the Dandiyas right out of curiosity and anticipation. In fact some even got started with GANGNAM STYLE! Yeah, you read it correct; GANGNAM dance in the middle of a Garba!!!!

Whatever it was, the sight was beautiful, & everyone was having so much fun; even bystanders like me reveled at such a wonderful evening.

Kudos to the junior team for putting up a flamboyant display of colors & events. SIOM did enjoy its first ever Navratri celebrations!!!!

P.S.: Just to pour down few more words of appreciation, the Ladies of both the batches looked mesmerizingly Beautiful !!!

I cannot wait to tell you the way the atmosphere is changing in this college. You go out on a stroll and all you would see and find are groups and groups of people studying, discussing and sharing knowledge. Indeed exams are here. Just a few more days and all you would hear is gossips about the paper and the expectations in the eyes of the students. Feels like these are one of those days when being strong is the only thing to do..

Only if someone said that life is at ease-&-breeze in the 2nd year of MBA... how wrong was thou!!! I'm hardly getting time for any "non-academic activities" here, since it has been so hectic and full of rush for me. What started from 1st sem, is still very much in continuum in the 3rd sem! And while I'm writing this I've still got bag-loads of assignments to wind up... and exam's from 4th oct!

All in all the Minor subjects (IT, Marketing, Finance) have taken a toll on the students, with classes running late till 9 PM in some cases. As our Director promised us in towards the end of 2nd sem: "You will not have the same amount of freedom and relaxation as your Seniors are enjoying. I will make sure that U will have a busy schedule running down in the 2nd year also!"
I guess the prophecy is coming true!

The question is will the trend continue in the 4th Sem also?
Or we will have our fair-say in the 4th sem
Only time will tell...

Indeed this lecture brings out some very good points and approaches that have to be consider for deciding which type supply chain for an industry.

Had a good experience in listening from an expert in the field of Supply Chain Management from Munich University of Applied Sciences, Germany. The session was more about the Future Supply Chain. What challenges you would face as a supply chain manager and what factors would be key in decision making from supply chain angle. Thanks to our Guest Lecture Committee and faculty involved in organizing one such good sessions of many that have happened earlier.

Indeed awesome design of flower carpet (pookkalam) and lot of enthusiasm from the participent in "tug of war" and then "mataki fod" with water splashing .......

Kudos to all the contributor and spectators too for actively participating and encouraging all other. Every one enjoyed celebration and see our faculty in light mode enjoys every bit of the moment

Every time we get surprise from seniors and that too in very diverse mode...... that was splendid performance (nukad natak ) by everyone, particularly noted point was how they regulate music in background given by only one instrument........ Hats off you guys..

Yes people, today is India's 65th Independence Day... Happy B'day to my India!!!
And least to say, the day was celebrated with much fanfare & energy. The day was kicked off at 8 am with the Director unfurling the Tricolors, followed by the National Anthem. Then followed a series of cultural events by the junior troupe. Must admit the Cultural Team did a phenomenal job!!! I saw them work till late last night, & boy-o-boy did they put up a beautiful set-up.

Milan & Maruf played Vande Mataram on their Mouth-organ & guitar respectively, & trust me it was soothing to say the least. Everyone on the green-turf got mesmerized & there was a sudden air of calmness. Then followed the funky skit on the recent turmoil of the Central Govt. & corruption. It was HILARIOUS!!!
Equally great vocals by Pranay & Gaurav on the song Maa Tujhe Salaam... didn't know these guys sing equally good too!!! neharika.k and others then came up with their groovy group dance, & everyone went Balle-Balle!!!
AvneetK & Shubham1990: Good work with the compering guys (rather, an awesome job!!). The way u guys did it was not only unique but novel too! :)

And how can the show get over without the seniors not stepping in!!
So, in came Nukkad Natak, the majestic team of Harsh, Chirag, Deepu, Abhishek, Hiten, KD, Bakul, and Ashutosh. They carried forward the legacy that they set in SP Jain over here too. The street play took everyone, especially the juniors by surprise, & nothing less than a standing ovation from each and everyone would have been justified.

Overall, an eventful and funn-filled-frolic day!!! Keep up the good work 12-14 people... we need more of those!!!!b

Before I talk about the life at SIOM, I would like to talk about SIOM as an institute first. SIOM's mission is "Empowering Operations Excellence". It aims to deliver the Managerial Competencies of Broad Knowledge, Multi-Disciplinary Skills and Positive Attitude on a sustainable basis. The institute has followed world class management practices to ensure its goals. Guys, If you want to become an efficient, Operations Manager, SIOM is the place to be. The college offers a vast set of intellectual, emotional, physical skill sets. It believes in the overall development of the student. The student is not just somebody who studies and leaves but somebody who is a part of the big Symbiosis Family and has equal involvement as well as responsibilities as the management.

Life @ SIOM is simply amazing with a mix of all these important skills being offered to us. We are being taught by competent faculty who not only have exceptional knowledge about their respective subjects but also have practical industry experience. We are fortunate enough to get knowledge along with the necessary skills required to implement this knowledge in the industry and believe me it is not as simple as it seems.

We believe that knowledge is not the only differentiating factor between "Managers" and "Great Mangers" . As they all say, a sound mind lives in a sound body, SIOM follows a rigorous fitness regime for its students. SIOM inspires its students to confidently confront the challenges of the corporate world by participating in non-academic activities like, Meditation, Art of Living, Yoga and Gym Workout. Our campus has many recreational activities like Table tennis, Pool table , Badminton, Foosball, Football, Basketball etc. We are given a lot of group assignments which help us in improving our team building skills.

I have not been here for more than 2 months and I have witnessed almost 10-15 guest lectures delivered to us by various veterans in their respective fields. It really has been an eye opening experience and added a lot to our understanding of the management field.

A lot of focus is given to increasing the analytic ability of each student by following Case Study approach which demands both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the case. These are all practical scenarios where the theoretical knowledge can be applied to lead to an optimal, cost efficient solution. SIOM curriculum is very prudently designed with a lot of attention given to all the concepts and skills required to be a great operations manager.

Nasik as a place is very beautiful. We enjoy a great weather for the whole year. Apart from the aesthetic aspect, Nasik is also an industry hub having more than 100 manufacturing plants of various industries which helps to a great extent during placements, internships and also the industry visits. We are able to get an insight into the various types of industries which widens our perspective. In the end, I would just like to say that SIOM is a great institute driven by the vision of our respected director, the practical knowledge of our esteemed faculty and the versatility , creativity of the students. It is the place to be!!!

The impression of someone who is really expressive in what he speaks remains with us.

It was a wonderful experience to have Professor Paul Grant (Professor at Wolverhampton University, UK) among us, who spoke on “changing dynamics in learning” .

The learning which I got in his session was , The technical knowledge is not the only element required for being a manager but it also includes the viewpoint of yours, the way you would see and react in that situation .And most importantly trying to understand the frame in which the other person whom you are talking to is.

Life is not just about learning subjects but also about knowing how to use them effectively while you are living life happily.

It shows that Siom not only sees to it that they provide you with academic knowledge but also make you ready to become great leaders…

I really mean it .. for other colleges pay lot get less .. for us:-

1. Books (yes!! its included in fees)

2. Blazers, two shirts, two pants, track suits, one T shirt ... !! thats gr8 i mean !

3. One Doctor in campus ... was really impressed to see this .. lot of importance given to health over here ... this is one of the major reason i took a break from my corporate IT life to MBA in OM here hehe .. not the doctor .. common !! IT mein pata hi hoga baithe baithe pak ........................

Rachit - thats the way to go .. I am sure 12-14 batch is having lots to share on the academic experience too... Here is the space for you to write dears..

Today we got our Blazers and other stuff !! ... i feel very happy about the fact that a lot is covered in our fees .. ... hope this comment doesnt have any affect on our next year fees ..
