Yesterday was one of the memorable day in my life. It was once in a lifetime experience for me. It was MAHAMANDI 2011!!!

Y'day we,Nitie students, were out on streets with SJSOM, NMIMS, KJ SOM students along with few students from Pune, to sell educational toys. At the end of the day, i just felt wow!!!

Never thought that, how bad it feels to a salesman, when we just shove him away without even listening to him.
Met people of extreme ends.. some just listened to us, some shoved us away as if we were untouchables. When were loosing out our confidence at Bandra, Linking road ( as that road was already covered by many Mahamandi guys, and i got into the last bus after finishing off the mandi infra work), I was so disappointed, as we had could sell only stuff worth of 200 buck. it was about to get 6 pm...
then we made a decision to go to juhu chowpaty, which turned out best one!!!

But as soon as we reached there, we saw that whole juhu beach was already taken over by all the other mahamandi guys!! Such a disappointment again. We were about to give up, but then thought of giving a shot for another half an hour, if nothing works out, then go home, that was the plan!!
Made lot of pitching speeches with many customers but no success!! And then came some magical turns and the whole story got changed. by 9 pm we sold stuff worth of almost 4000Rs.. ( two bags of mandi stuff) that was an awesome feeling!!!
Met a CEO of a start up firm, an event mangt firm, he made out "Bohani" (first sale at Juhu) we picked up after that. We sold stuff worth of 600-700 at one place without even moving couple of feets.
Sold one toy to a zoolawala at juhu chowpaty !! lolz!! ;)
Met one alum of nitie, IM -14 batch passout, had a nice chat with him, he too bought some stuff.
We discovered out theories of selling stuff,
- theory of formal shoes ;)
theory of senior citizens :D
theory of uncle with young wife and small kids
and what not
As it is said, "Sub kuch bikta hai, bechane wala chahiye!!" (everything can be sold on the street, there should be right person to sell the stuff)
I dont if i will do such a stuff once again or not.. but it was the memorable day in my life.. i just cant forget it.. we didnt have any girl in our team (it helps really!! ) , none of us had marketing skills, it was raining like hell initially, we walked almost from bandra to santacruz by road while selling on the street, we pitched in to many people for almost 15 min to sell a stuff but some of them just said NO :splat:!!! ( 15 min of pitching is too long, just give a try to convince a stranger to buy something from you on the road, its such not that easy)
At last, i would say, every b-schooler should experience the MANDI experience once in life time. There is no better way to learn marketing than selling on the street!!
Cya!!
