Time of Departure:
11.05 am from IMT Dubai

Pink taxies:
They are very rare, rarely available and you'll mostly end up taking the normal taxi. Mom, Dad, I'm safe :)

Red Taxi:
I usually prefer the Red taxies (Dubai Taxi Co.) more than any other color taxi.
Note: Every taxi company is denoted by a different color except the Pink which is a subsidiary of the Red.

Metro:
On Fridays, it opens only after 2pm, I didn't know that. Apparently the taxi driver only remembered this half way to the station. Hmmmmph!:banghead:

Mall of the Emirates (MOE):
Desired Destination. Very very very very very very far into the city. Will cost a lot by cab. approx AED 100/-:shock:

Mirdiff City Centre (MICC):
The closest mall to the A'Rashidiya Metro Station, so that I can take a 'Feeder Bus' (Public Transport Bus used to cover small routes) to the Metro at 2 o' clock.

My Best Friend:
I Love You. Thank you for reading my post before I left. Thankyou for keeping me on the line throughout the taxi ride, got my mind of it. What would I do without you!! Hehehe

Time of Arrival:
At MICC: 11.26 AM
At MOE: No clue...!!

Alone in a mall... That's a first!! LOL:
It's the girl code to come in packs to malls, and now for the first time in my life I'm alone at a mall. Now what?

Iron Man 2:
11.30 am 1 ticket for Iron Man 2 first show : 12.45 pm. This is a first too, watching a movie alone.

Starbucks:
Sat at starbucks sipping hot chocolate, eating a sandwich, watching people, couples, families and babies (loads of them...too cute), and scribbling random stuff in my red diary. Just whiling away time till the movie starts. Got lots of stares from a lot of people. Attractive girl, sitting alone? Interesting!

Wallet:
At the entrance to the cinema, I realize I left my wallet at that coffee place.. what's it's name? Oh yea.. Starbucks! one floor down! Damn!:|

Showtime:
By the time I got the wallet back, Bless the Starbucks staff, they kept it safe, but they opened it to count the money ( for identification pueposes)! Didn't really appreciate that!:banghead: but I'm lucky to get it back anyway!
Note: Raced back , reached panting, but missed the first 3 minutes of Iron Man 2. But the movie was AWESOMEEEEEE....!!!:clap:
Conclusion:
Oh yea, I bought the laptop charger from MICC! But that's a whole different story, another adventure in it's own right.

But, reached MOE at 4.30, public transport may be cheap, but it's slower than a snail at a 10 K marathon!!..

6.00 PM. Lunch at MOE, got distracted window shopping and shopping at MOE on the way to the foodcourt! Well, what do you expect, I'm a lady

Met my friend. Had fun! chit-chat, girl talk and more window shopping!

Moral of the Story:
Mission Accomplished! Got a charger, met my friends, wrote a report, had an adventure, and a story to share on PG.

Early Morning Blues!

It's a Friday, it's a weekend, and I woke at 4.00 a.m , no surprises there!

I plugged on my laptop, to finish a report for my project, and guess what, my charger is dead!, can't get it to breathe life into my trusty old lappy! Sigh! :(

Everyone sleeps on a Friday, and there's no one I can borrow a charger or a laptop at 4 in the morning from. Captain Obvious!!!

I had plans to go to the Mall of the Emirates today in the evening to meet a childhood friend, we've been talking about going out together once our exams got over,possibly grab a bite and have bit of girl talk. :clap:

So, my revised agenda for today: Mall of the Emirates @ 11 am, buy the charger, meet my friend, come back early, break my friend's heart, finish the report, submit and go to sleep!:|

Hostel 101 during Internship Period, May 2010:

I miss the hostel girls a lot, work life is different. Most of my close friends are out of the country with their own projects, some of them are here, but we hardly get to meet for they are all as busy as I am, and others on the verge of leaving the campus for good ( Dear Seniors of mine!). :cry

Work Life Balance 101:

Corporate life is definitely interesting, intriguing, challenging and I daresay fun.

This is the first time I've ever had a taste of the corporate world, you see, I'm a fresh graduate. :

I'm just getting accustomed to this, trying to maintain a balance between work and personal life.

Independence 101:

They say safety first, but sometimes, safety is an excuse for fear. I am scared of going in taxis alone, I have before but that doesn't make me any less scared. I have lived in the Middle East my whole life, in the Sultanate of Oman, the country next door to UAE, and I've always been told to never travel alone in a taxi, It's Not Safe, courtesy of Mom and Dad, which I haven't exactly followed here, sorry my dear loving parents, necessity called, and when you're like me devoid of license and in an emergency unable to make sudden last minute arrangements, you will have to rely on yourself than on others. :cheers:

Necessity is the mother of invention and so I finally found a way! Hopefully I can get a pink taxi today (women's only), I'm so proud of me

And if you're want to know where I wrote this post from, from my laptop, yup, you read it right! but I borrowed my friends' HP and Lenovo chargers to see if any fit, and by golly they did, though my laptop seems to be overheating a bit. I'll be leaving in an a hour to get myself a new charger and spending an awesome day with my dear sweet gal!

If hostel life has taught me anything, it's to survive. And most of all to Live

Part 2: Soul

I have to say I had a very disturbed sleep last night, hardly slept at all. My face is now gaunt and my eyes sunken, my hair for once is perfect. Great timing dear sweet hair. Bless you!:|

So, if you ask me why did I have a horrible sleep or the lack of it, I have only one answer to give: I am human, I have all the colors of emotions everyone else has, I feel pain, sadness, frustration, resentment, helplessness, depair and yes...also the good things too.

So as I boarded the train from the Jebel Ali platform, with my hanbag, folder and other essentials, I have to say I had one more thing with me, that I ususally would not carry, I had the book 'Blink'. I'm not sure when I'll be able to read it, I may not even get the time today, but what's the harm in taking the chance, right?

In the train, I got no place to sit, and unlike other seasoned travellers whose constant companion is a good book, my balancing act isn't all that perfect. So there, goes that idea down the drain. But all is not lost, for it was during those moments that I stood in the train, zoomed on the travellator across Sheikh Zayed Road, and rode in the cab to the office, I got the almighty inspiration to record this.

I'm back in the hostel now, upon my comfy bed, but I'm not sleeping, I don't feel like it. Not even a bit actually. Because the part of me that wants to post this on PG gives the energy to keep going

So, coming back to the never ceasing source of misery in every human's life including mine : Choices... What is next? What to chose? What's will happen? What is right? What is wrong? And a multitude of other questions, sometimes no questions at all, sometimes no answers, just a complete blank.:splat:

In the metro, as I watched one of the world's fastest cities, zoom by right in front of my eyes, my life in those seconds, also zoomed by, with me thinking, there are over a billion people just like me, watching their life zoom by, and probably not even thinking about it, because it's become a routine for them. But I thought, I want don't want to be one of them. Mostly they all wouldn't hadn't wanted to be one of them either, but life caught up with them. And they got sucked into the vortex of catching up with life. Did they have a choice? If they took a chance, would it be different?

Today as I walked out of the metro, I nearly got hit by a speeding car. Just missed me by an inch. This woke me up, and a part of my life flashed in front of my eyes, memories, beautiful and promising, hopes and dreams, anger and tears, sadness and pain.

I've had more than one epiphany over the years, this one was a bit different. this was an eye opener. For the meaning of life hit me harder in these few seconds than in any of the talks I've had with my loved ones and friends.

The two most important things in life : Love and Respect, everything else follows automatically : grace, peace, happiness and wealth.

One thing I have learned over the years my dear friends, is that if one does not like you for you, they'd never like you for pretending to be something you're not. So be true to yourself, your beliefs, you don't need blatantly show off your vices, but do not hide them , one who accepts you for who are, the whole package are the people who should matter. I'm not going to make a list of these people, you'll know who they are yourself; they'd be there for you when you least expect it. They'd intrude when you least want it, make you wish they weren't so bothersome, or annoying. But they'll fight tooth and nail against you and themselves if they have to stand by you.

But appreciate them, love them, give them the respect they deserve. For one who knows you at your worst would never change sides. And if they do, we're only to be blamed. Respect their hopes, dreams, lives and beliefs, because as much as we are all same on the inside, we are all unique, with unique minds, mindsets.

With this I would like to thank all the wonderful people in my life for being my strength, standing by me, listening to me, even if all I said was rubbish and made no sense to anyone :biggrin:

Whats Next is the Question that I am trying to find an answer to but wait before i try to find an answer, I need to find the exact question too, Whats next means Next in What Sense?

I Mean in Simpler Words Am I looking for The Next Challenge for me.I am pretty sure on that one, the challenge as of uptil now was to get a decent enough job, one which has all the prospects of being my dream job one and i would accept that i found one but is it the dream job that i was looking for?

But,i guess i will get to that question in some other post but what i am really trying to get at is- What drives me? for last 3years it was the MBA Craze but now after obtaining the objective, their is this big chasm, you know when you have achieved what you aimed for and now you are looking for new objectives to acheive, same with me,its the end of the line for me with respect to my MBA journey, what is required is a new set of objectives and desires, that will drive me for next few years.

Just reading through all your posts has brought up within me a desire to be a part of such a B-School.

I am in my final year of engineering and have a 93% in CAT 2009. I really look forward to applying to IMT-Dubai and hopefully get selected. The only apprehension i have is about the huge fees... but considering all that IMT-Dubai offers i think it will be worth it.:thumbsup:

Anyways I had a really great time reading through all your posts and Lisa I hope you will keep on updating....

I have only seen early mornings 6-7 times in the last 2years of my stay at campus

when we were taken in awe of this beautiful moment called mornings@IMT-Dubai.:)

The mornings here are indeed very beautiful, and serene, and for some reason, a kind of peace bubbles within you and fills you. There's happiness in that silence and yet chaos.

Wish I could also be a part of this wonderful moments more often but for my nocturnal needs.

I haven't witnessed that many here either, but each time I do, I can't shake the memory or the beauty off. One sunrise here is worth a thousand nights sleep, and I hope you'll get to watch a few more before you leave, and post it here. I'm sure everyone would love to know your perspective.

Of Magic and Miracles

It's nearly 5.00 am, and I've been awake almost an hour, and I'm sitting on the floor, 3rd floor, girls dormitory. And it's Friday, the beginning of a promising and glorious weekend.

The best thing though about mornings @ IMT, is the sunrise, that is why I'm on way to the fire exit, to see the live performance! The best things in life have no price, they come free! :)

It is beautiful, so beautiful, the sun hasn't risen yet, but the sky is getting lighter, blacks are fading, blues are glowing, reds, oranges and yellows all mixing. The street lights are still on, in a few minutes they'll glow no more, and so will the moon fade in the summer sky. Yes, I look up, and the moon's a beautiful, bright, white crescent. I can feel the warmth of it's light, yet there is a wonderfully exhilarating cold breeze in the air, that's giving me goosebumps.

The East is getting brighter, the colors, the pinks, blues, orange, reds and the purples, I cannot describe at all, this feeling, I'm at a loss for words. The birds serenading, the planes taking off into the sky, I cannot describe. Everything still, so perfect, so silent, yet loud, it really is different to see IMT asleep, to see Dubai sleeping.

I have a passion, one I cannot explain, nature photography, rocks, birds, animals, plants, you name it. My favorite subject though is the sun, particularly the sunrises and sunsets. I cannot count the number of times, I've been with my friends and family, got lost in the beauty of a sunset, stopped smack dab in the middle of the walk and clicked pictures by the dozen. All I ever needed with me is my trusty old phone with its 5MP camera. And that's what I'm doing now, clicking away while I post this. Talk about multitasking :)

All signs of night, the darkness and the moon have faded, I switch off the fire exit light, I do not need it any more to type, the beauty around me is more than enough.

I simply cannot do justice to this particular sunrise,the multitude of colors, the hues and accents, the warmth in my heart, the happiness bursting inside me, the smile on my face, or the song of the birds as I record this memory here on PG, for even though sunrises happen all over the globe,and has been happening everyday for the past billions of years or so, this one my dear folks can be only felt at my life@IMT Dubai :)

They say that one should never read or write in a moving vehicle, but I disagree, for the next two months, I will be reporting live from Dubai Metro:)..

For the last few days, I've been meaning to write, and I did, in my mind.. I had lots to tell, but being the dedicated intern I am (Yes, today is the day 3 Internship 101, I decided not to post during office hours... :), but instead take my red diary with me.. I write in the train before I lose track or forget what I want to post .. I know I know.. It's a brilliant idea !!

So here goes:

Life of an IMTian at the Metro

Part 1: Secrets of the Metro

1. Dubai Metro is fast, but I've been on faster ones
   
2. Dubai Metro is very very very very crowded
   
3. You are not likely to get a seat in any compartment
   
4. My stop is 34 stations away, a bit frustrating, but the view makes it worth the while
   
5. There are a lot of women in Dubai
   
6. They all go shopping on Tuesdays
   
7. All of them want to be in the Women's Compartment
   
8. And more of them just keep flooding in at every stop, Does everyone here only shop?
   
9. I thought the compartment wouldn't fit through the tunnels, seemed to be bulging at the seams
   
10. On Tuesdays, for 29 stops, you don't really get a seat.
    
11. No one gives up their seat to old people
    
12. That's why I gave up mine
    
13. That's why she forced me to share hers :)
    
14. Men are not allowed to sit in the women's compartment
    
15. Some women just want to make the poor fellow more miserable (no, It wasn't me)
    
16. Luckily he realized it before they 'enlightened' him
    
17. Listening to music is a good idea, music is indeed food for the soul
    
18. Listening to music, high volume, bad idea! (you'll miss the announcement, you'll run out in a hurry, you'll forget your wallet :shocked:)
    
19. The conductor runs behind you with the said wallet , a good deed really goes a long way
    
20. So you'll want to listen at a low volume
    
21. Some people have mastered the art of standing and reading in the metro.
    
22. It was 'Blink' by Malcolm Gladwell, a worn out, well read copy, lucky her, mine's still brand new

End of Semester???

I can't believe it, it's the end of the semester today.:shocked::w00t: The last exam just got over. :grin:

Class of 2011 is officially Halfway To MBA... YAY congrats everyone .. and this time next year.... wow, time sure does fly as you grow older.

In a few hours, Class of 2010, will finish their last exam. Congrats y'all..M.B.A , another milestone conquered.

I think I'm having the end of semester blues. I am happy, but.... Most of my friends fly tonight. Going back home/other places for internships. Very few of the hostel girls of my batch staying back here for their internships. It's going to a bit different here without the usual humdrum. And within a week or two, the campus is going to be even more empty, with all the seniors gone. God Bless you all!

Saturday Breakfast @IMT
Part 2: Breakfast

So here continues the tale of another crazy, wonderful day of my life@ IMT...

Yup... and so by now you know I've found my dream room...and as I dig a hole in the middle of the room, bury my books ten feet under, rearrange the tables and chairs, and vacuum the rug, my nose starts twitching. Just kidding, just kept my books on the table, but I sure can feel doom beating a path to my left nostril's right corner. AAA....AAAAA....CHHHOOOO.......oh no, the poor bird on the window sill fell over.. lucky it's the ground floor.. God Bless you little birdie.

I make a mad dash for the ladies room, AAA....AAAAA....CHHHOOOO...... ,it echoes, Oh my!, am I that loud? :oops:,I trip on a plastic bag on the floor!! What happened to the 'Say No to Plastics' campaign? Seriously where are the environment folks when you need them... oh yea..I forgot, I'm one of them, he he...and yea, I strongly advocate using our earth's resources sustainably, using water cautiously, switching off....

Let's rewind and go back a bit, so here I am, dressed in tees & shorts, posed like a circus freak, with one arm hopelessly flailing about, a leg caught in a crazy hop-step-jump motion, clinging onto dear life on the door handle and on the verge of sneeze number three.Thank you, you wonderfully ugly blue plastic bag from our canteen. If anyone came by, I'd just tell them I'm practicing my opening act at the April Fools Day parade on the 31st of April,4015.

AAA....AAAAA....CHHHOOOO... Phew! The door beaks my fall ,and the handle possibly, most definitely a rib...Ow! Thank you again, Mr. Bag!

This might seem like fiction to you, but it's all true. I'm Lisa. Enough said:biggrin:. BUUUUZZZ.... That's my cell, my gals calling for breakfast. All the craziness of the morning sure has made me ravenous.. I could probably eat a bear. Lucky for the bear I'm veggie.

I trudge along the corridor resigned to the throbbing pain in my side, I chance upon a senior, looking smart and gorgeous in all her business formal glory.

I look at myself.. Hmmm.. If I'm going to be in the acad block all day, might as well look it. In 10 minutes I'm at my wardrobe, Note: my gal still waiting for me. How inconsiderate of me! But as I say so often, a girls' got to do what a girls' got to do.

Wardrobe Inventory: (funny, I have inventory management for Sunday's Operations paper. See! I got practical experience too :biggrin:)

1. ball gown...too flashy
   
2. business suit..it's not my interview..hehe
   
3. saree... I don't think so
   
4. dress...Nope
   
5. My pumpkin suit (Halloween costume)..oh yea, that's just about enough to give anyone the creeps in April!
   
6. jeans, black shirt.. Perfect! At least better than shorts!

@Breakfast: We women look great in formals ,and men...Oooh La La..All look amazing! Sight to behold indeed, watch out people!, these seniors, all going to rule the world! WOW!

One day, kids are going to see them on TV and say, 'Hey! look at that guy! I know him, I know him, he's my uncle's politician's niece's grandma's football team's CEO!' :grin:(Yea.. I love football! Sue me )

To put in one word, I'd call breakfast: Delicious yup! the Idli & Sambhar was pretty gud... I'd quote Bugs Bunny now and say 'That's all folks!' ,but, it definitely isn't :

We waged war with the rest of IMT to capture this room.Guess what!It's right next to the GD rooms. The three of us, (yes, we are three now :)),we're in study room 2,studying operations, and we didn't miss any of the action. We got second-by-second real time updates. I must say a hearty congratulations to all the men and women in black.

In case, your wondering whether we studied or not.. Saturday Breakfast @IMT

Part 1: The Scavenger Hunt

Rise and Shine! It's a beautiful Saturday morning! Green grass and blue skies coupled with the melodies of nature's orchestra, the birds..... Sigh! It just beckons you doesn't it, to grab your hat, sunscreen, couple of sandwiches, a picnic basket, your friends and ride out to the beach and swim in the open sea...
Sigh, I'm already in love..........Alas! that's not to be, exams are starting tomorrow, Oh My God!!Oh My God!!Oh My God!! Panic has set in (Yea, and I'm on pagalguy.. :biggrin:LOL)

My day so far: I woke up at 7.45 am, five minutes before my alarm...the usual getting ready routine then (which included 15 minutes in front of the mirror trying to fix my hair.. If you saw me then, I looked like the walking dead! I confess for the sake of everything good and pure in this world, my hair doesn't stay in shape for peanuts in the morning!!)

And as usual, like all days before exams, I rush to the Acad. block to get a study room, the usual, the usual, he he..

So, here I am in my Tees and knee length shorts, (yes, IMT feels just like home!) doing my usual scavenger hunt for a study room... But this time something is different..way way different than the other times ... Placements!:clap: Some rooms booked for placements... A happy occasion definitely, but fewer rooms to choose from. All my favorites already taken, Man! how early do people come here... Next thing I know I'll be here at 4.00 am, Goodbye ..oh sweet sweet sleep!WAAAHHH!! So the creepy, crawly, dark study room 2 it is then;)

Bad Hair Day and a Missing Calculator

Dear Friends,

This is an ordinary day in the life of Lisa Rachel James (me) @ IMT-D.

Like any other ordinary day, and by ordinary I mean extraordinary, totally awesome day @ IMT.. I woke up early in the morning, yea, for those who know me, no surprises here at all, got ready to............ yep, your right... to book a study room...!!

That's right people, that's what I did! Armed with my bag, two textbooks, my laptop, it's charger, my wallet, my phone,it's charger, notes and a practice notebook, I zoomed across the third floor corridor, almost slipped on a patch of wet floor, finally escaping near peril and great doom reached the elevator!!...

Oh my!! Now comes the big problem...hands too full to call the cumbersome machine.. Note: Here occurs clumsy placement and rearrangement of above mentioned items, to free my pinky long enough to hit the button...

Woohoo.. yea.. dats done... you can hear it come up, the slow grinding against its metal sides, Come up already!! doors finally open and I'm in...

AAAAAHHHHH!!! Note the high pitched shriek!! Yup, that was me, The mirror in the lift I tell you, is plain atrocious, man,I do look like a freak!! I didn't look this bad in my own mirror... " Mirror, Mirror on the wall.. Whose the fairest one of all? Ans: It's you dearie...NOT" My hair, my poor poor precious hair, scattered, looks like a sparrow landed, made a nest and abandoned it!!:shock:

Advice for Women of all shapes and sizes: When they say short hair is always more manageable.. don't believe it!! Mine's not... And I've got straight, soft, bouncy, silky hair that could make any sunsilk hair model want to pull hers' out..:biggrin:

Now I'm in a dilemma, should I get out and do my hair and then to the study room, or go to the study room, put down the heavy weight championship trophies (It's called that for a reason, I swear) and come back up and do my hair.. but what if someone sees me like this. :banghead:

The nasty machine already made my decision for me. Characteristics of elevator: automatically goes to the ground floor.. anyway, what can I do? With all my faith in the day called Friday, that no one wakes this early, I rush to find a room.

Room 4,1-occupied, 3 locked, 2-too dark (just kidding)-atleast I can get this off my hands. then I go upstairs, room 5-locked, others occupied!! WOW.. people here are way too studious aren't they? room 2 it is.

Back to my room now, swish, swish, brush a bit, hairband.. and voila! .. not a princess but definitely acceptable ;).. I refrain from looking at the mirror in the elevator as I go down this time.

I start studying, (well I'm not finished yet!..:grin:The story of the missing calculator still to go) Finance books open in front of me (not my favorite subject.. but a girls got to do what a girls got to do).. open my bag once again to take out the calculator.. It's not there. Oh No!! Why does this happen to me!!

My friend, sitting with me here is a bit astonished at the incredible frustrated movements I'm doing, I'm going to look for my calculator I tell her.Back in my room ..No such Luck! Such a wonderful day it is today!

Last resort: Call up a friend ..a guy friend (Ladies, the following conversation might help our species understand the aliens a bit more)

Me:Hi! you in campus?
He: No at the Taj Mahal (He thinks its funny:splat:.. He's laughing)
Me:very funny. I need to borrow your calci, can't find mine
He:(bursts out laughing...Dear Men of the world,when a woman is serious, it's no laughing matter..He was under the impression that I wanted an excuse to meet him, now why would I even want to do that.. I can just ask you directly can't I?)
So after a frustrated conversation(a little bit of shouting on my part) in which I failed to convince him that I had no hidden agenda, he agreed to let me borrow it)...

Men! They think themselves very important don't they ladies? By the way.. Thankyou my dear friend:) you saved me :)

And now, I sit here with a calculator and books and my laptop, all geared up for finance, I instead decide to record this on pagalguy forever more, because its just one ordinary day of my life@IMT

Ode to the End.. or the Beginning

At IMT, yesterday was a landmark day. T'was officially the last day of classes, Never thought that would happen!! ..

I don't want to assume, speak for anyone, but I would like to describe it in a few words:

Different and possibly, a little weird, maybe a little heartbreaking too..:):drinking:

Wonder how the seniors were feeling yesterday: College might not be over yet (one week of exams to go) , but it must have been strange or maybe a little different to feel that two years have gone by. and the speed? Was it fast enough for them, or do they want to say: Slowdown already,please!

Have you all noticed how time passes by? Can you account for each moment spend and say: Life well spent? That's how it should be. No regrets

At times the questions arises, what to take forward with me, what to leave behind?

Some tips:

1. You'd want to take your luggage.. (clothes are pretty essential you know, even if you're planning to revamp you're whole wardrobe:biggrin:)
   
   
   
2. Memories: They say college life is college life, spent it well, it never comes back, make the most of it, do everything and nothing, just make memories, just have a camera handy
   
   
3. Friends:Well, you can't really put your friends in your pocket and take them with you wherever you go, but you might want to keep their contact details handy. you know what they say right, college friends are friends for life.:cheers:
   
   I also find this quote very useful: "The toes you step on today, might be attached to the behinds you might have to kiss tomorrow"
   
4. Souvenirs: Nearly got lost there for a second with the friendship thing..But, one thing common to us all IMTians is that we are all in a foreign land, the land of dreams,and the business hub of the Gulf..no matter the recession, its still a rocking place... Dubai..
   
   You might want to get a map of the UAE at the least, not just any map ,maybe one that's made of glass or cloth or maybe even encrusted in diamonds. Personally, I wouldn't mind the diamonds:grin:
   
   
5. Travel: Dil to Bachaa hai ji, child at heart, and I would personally recommend seeing the Al Ain zoo if you haven't, the last time I saw it, I was five years old, at the max,but I can remember the fox and the penguins
   
   Also, possibly, a round the UAE trip, and you what's the best part? If you have your diamond encrusted map, you won't even get lost..!!:biggrin:
   
   
   
6. Gifts:It's definitely a good idea to buy some gifts for the people who've meant the most to you these two years, without them probably, campus life would have lacked a little lustre, don't you think so? So a token of appreciation or a promise to keep in touch..What do you say huh?
   
   More important than that, something for your folks back home, Dubai style..!!

I dedicate this post entirely to the guyz and galz who are passing out this summer, all of us might not have exactly started on the right foot,hehe.. but you've all made our first two semesters certainly one to remember.

I can't really know how you all felt about the last day of classes, but I hope that instead of letting the moment leave a bad taste, you will enjoy these days to the fullest, make the best out of it. :)

The library during the exam weeks are open till 12.00 am.. Thank God for that!.. coz for one, I so cannot study in my room... might be the ultra coziness, but I'm asleep in minutes with my face encompassed between the laptop and pages of my textbook.. Not a pretty sight.. I tell you...

I agree, me too, have the same problem, can't read an iota of things in my room, its either the library or the academic block for me.In my room i do only the below listed things;

A-117 Room Cycle

1. I sleep
2. I give Global Gyaan
3. I Surf Net
4. I sleep

In that order., wonder what is in my room, that has this effect on me.:drinking:

and sleep deprivation, I am sure no one knows better about that, than you Lisa.

I might be sounding a bit repetitive here, but I'm going to exercise my right to go off topic here ...

Who are the IMT Junta: We are a crazy concoction of the most wonderful people you'd ever meet (eg: Mr. Ankur Vohra.... and not to forget.. me! hehe)

So, just to give an upd8 on what's happening here, I'm going to quote the speech by Albert Frankenstein Googo Bertie, the founder of the tiny speck of dust that sits on a single molecule of a bar of liquid soap..... "Hugs are free, Huggies aren't!' Just Kidding!!

The real picture here ladies and gentlemen: Everyone's busy, gearing full speed ahead for exams... Can you believe it?? :w00t:A week more to go!!

LOL;)

Oh yea, almost forgot...Advertising guest lecture at 3.00 pm today!! Looking forward to it!!

The semester is almost done, countdowns always begin at the start, and none realize until the very end!
Now's the time to know, that things shouldn't be put off for long...time to act.. time to have no regrets whatsoever..!!
All I know is yesterday is gone
And right now I belong ,To this moment to my dreams

The end of the second semester marks the beginning of two things.. nope, three things:

1. Internships-Companies seem to pouring in for internships left right and center now. Everyone's applying. Hearty congratulations to all the junta who got in (incl. me):biggrin:.
   
   
2. Specialization- This is the turning point for all of us. For all of us, it's going to be the decision..Something that's going to probably affect us for the rest of our lives... But no worries.. No pressure..
   I've chosen mine: Marketing and Retail Management. Didn't even think twice. Knew I always wanted this. :)
   
   
3. One Year Left- Just two, tiny, short semesters to pass by. Didn't even notice how the last two flew by...As the time flies, it gets even more difficult to let go...And now.... There's only a year to go. ...Not that I want to stay longer than that
   

It doesn't matter what people say, And it doesn't matter how long it takes
Believe in yourself and you'll fly high
And it only matters how true you are ,Be true to yourself and follow your heart
We choose our destiny, but how we reach it, isn't our hands, We make the story, not the script...At times, I'm sure we all think, this really wasn't what we had in mind.. I know I do..but I've got no regrets

Life is a real tricky thing..catches me by surprise no matter how prepared I am...And I like it that way

Nothing is perfect, though somethings seem to be...but even if they aren't...aspire, dream big, dream the impossible, for the best things in life don't come all that easy....and who knows, you might just get what you want..

Here's something I've been meaning to write for sometime...

The Tale of a Pair of Pointy Heels -My pointy heels to be precise... :)

I own a pair of ridiculously gorgeous black heels...crafted to go with any formal wear.... Suits, pants, skirts and dresses... you name it!:cheerio:

I own a pair of atrociously uncomfortable two inch high heels.... What in the world was I thinking when I bought them? ? But then, I don't think I was...;)we'll come to that later....:)

Both the pairs I've described so lovingly above are one and the same!...

Fact and definitely not fiction: These heels are called pumps... I really have no clue why... Mine definitely don't look like pumps..!! I even checked Wikipedia to make sure!

Why I bought them:

1) Desperately needed a pair to complete the look for something the next day...

2) Four months of fruitless search to find the perfect pair.. and I finally ran out of patience!:banghead:

3) Got a real sweet deal on this one.. DSF and all...talk about being in the right place at the right time..! Or maybe not..!!:oops:

4)I look really good in black

Confession: I can't walk in pumps...I'm totally jinxed...they truly are uncomfortable, believe me... I can wear heels.. I own five other pairs....not to mention my sandals, flats and floats!:biggrin:

Click-tap, clicketty-tap, ouch!... If you've heard that.. :Welcome to IMTD...'coz that was probably me and my botched attempts to find a graceful pace at any of the following events:

1)the three days of ICTBM-10 (International Conference on Business Technology and Management 2010) .. This prestigious baby was held at IMT-D from March 16th-18th 2010, awesome!
Proud to be one of it's coordinators..even got an official pen with my name embellished to prove it But that story is for another day.

2)All guest lectures that I can't get away with wearing my perfect silver sandals... There's one scheduled for next week on Advertising...
Looking forward to it...:biggrin: Not sure if my feet are though!

3)All classroom presentations...... There are a lot....and they're fun;)

On these days, I am nothing short of an old man with a walking stick... and boy,my feet were killing me..!! ...

I often ask the other girls.....how do they manage... They see nothing perplexing about pumps... Practice they say to me....:nono:

And I have....If practice makes one perfect , then I'm not so sure if I want to be perfect at tripping over my own feet... Which,by now I'm pretty good at:biggrin:

Anyway... What's in a little shoe bite or sore feet....What else can ever compare to a wonderful life @ IMTD? ...experience is definitely the best teacher..!!:)

Aspirations, Expectations and More- Series-Part-2

This mail is in response to the myriad threats that i have been receiving from my Hostel Mates, ever since i thanked only IMT-Dubai Girls for their encouragement and support to me over the last 2 years. Guys, Please understand you are closest to my heart, wanted to thank you at last but now as the things stand, i really do want to get inside my A Block room, so writing from the corridor to thank you.:biggrin:

So,here goes, I want to thank the Entire Gang of Boys Hostel Gang For:

1. Late Night "Global Gyaan" talks.
2. Last Minute Deadly Examination 'Phodu' ( Killer) Tips.
3. Giving me the First use of the Oven, when i really needed my Maggi Quick.)
4. For Almost Killing me on My Birthday with the never ending Deadly Birthday bums.
5. For sharing your Iron Press, Coat, Pen Drive with me whenever i needed them most.
6. For that ever so lasting games of counter strike and cricket, to which i most was a spectator, cause really "Go kill" is not my cup of tea.:biggrin:
7. For Just being their for me whenever i needed some one to talk to.

And last but not the least, i want to thank you for those smiles and dreams, we shared, i am pretty sure as we set out on to achieve those billion dollar dreams, these two years will remain with us forever.

I've written once before here...: that was when I wanted to apply to the Media Committee - IMTD..

And I got in... Go Team METH...but that was all last semester....Ever since that, I wanted to write many a million times.. But somehow.. I couldn't..
But today I'm inspired....I simply don't want to leave anything unsaid.... and so full speed ahead, I say

It's my second semester now...almost the end of the semester..and a lot of things are happening around me here...placements, internships, projects, reports, case studies, up coming events and of course Team METH continues to rock on and on!!:cheers:

This time of the year people are busier than ever. It's decision making time. Time to look ahead.. Try to figure out a small part of that obscure thing we call: the future!

But now that exams are around the corner,the campus seems more occupied than ever ... or maybe a smidgen empty... I can't decide which..

And to think, in a few weeks time a lot of familiar faces will leave .A lot of special people I've had the good fortune to know will no longer be part of my campus life. .. Then... it's really going to be empty... this place...

I don't know all my seniors here, but all those I've become close friends with... I have no words to express how much I'll miss them.... I'm still in a bit of shock here!:shock: .. that time has flown by so quick!

Right now, I have a lot say... but I can't express... but I would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best in all their future endeavors. But most of all I want to say: I'll miss you all very much...

Wishing everyone at IMT-D all the very best for their exams... :cheerio:

Aspirations, Expectations and More

The journey of my Aspirations and Expectations started in 2008, and as my time @IMT-Dubai comes to an end, i have been thinking of how much of my aspirations and expectations got full filled, If you have been with me since the start of this space, I would like to thank you for that, but you will also agree, i never defined what were my expectations and aspirations, and i am sure, all of us would have got our own versions of mine expectations and aspirations, for some of my readers it would have been, well Ankur wants to have a good job at the end of MBA, and while on the other hand some would think- he wants to enjoy his Life @Dubai and the International MBA.:biggrin:

Well, coming to an end of my MBA journey, i would do what i should have done at the onset of this blog and that is define what were my expectations and aspirations and how well were they achieved or mis-achieved., from now on, i would try to come up with my version of two years of my MBA@ IMT, i would recount the most memorable experiences i had, the people who made a difference to me, the situations, events that helped me complete my aspirations and expectations.

Hope you all would like a read.

Now boys and girls, before you get all excited and let your imagination flow,the next few lines are only my tribute to the girls who i met during my two years of MBA and who have played a very important role in my learning @IMT campus, some have taught me to be patient, some have taught me to be in control, some have taught me to be ambitious and well,some have taught me to go all out-have fun, while some lets just say-have taught me to smarten up.

My Learnings from Girls @IMT-Dubai

1. Not all Girls are Wicked.
2. Most of the Girls are Wicked.
3. Not all Girls want to have Fun.
4. Most of the Girls want to have fun.
5. Not all Marketing Girls have a sense of humour.
6. Most of the Marketing Girls have a great sense of humour.

If a Girl sets her eyes on something more often than not, she is sure to have it.:)

Girls,You all have taught me a lot, I would always remember you all, whether i we interacted more or less but you all have helped me understand some of the intricacies of life. I owed you all this.

My Learning From 20 Years of Education

I have been quite inquisitive about the use of the Eductaion that i have had over the period of 20 years of my existence and finally,coming to the end of my Post Graduation, i think i have got hold of some answer, "Education is all about exploring yourself and learning from your failures", Many of us as kids have been bred on the thought that, leave it you wont be able to do this, how is that possible for you, you need to be best at what you do, remember the dialog from the movie Lakshya,where Hrithik says, i want to be best at what ever i do in my life, but he misses out on the part that in order to be successful, you might even have to fail a couple of times first, and you need to have the guts to stand up again, when you think you are down and out. The education that teaches us that-is to me the Real Education.

Over my 14 Years of School education, i have two incidences edged in my mind, one is of the fourth grade, where in i was rejected from a play, just because, i could not enact couple of lines, exactly the way, the teacher wanted them to be, and secondly of ninth grade, where in my teacher and peers scoffed at me for not being able to perform well at an NCC Camp, in both of the cases what was forgotten was that, i had taken the initiative to be on the other side of the ring, and what was remembered was failure, which also unfortunately stuck with me for quite some time after that.

The Essence of my education journey is that, people should be given chances to fail and get back on their feet, they should be given chances to explore themselves and not only be one of the thousands, as Anatole France said it apltly- "Nine tenths of education is encouragement."

So, encourage and encourage people around you to keep trying, trust me i have learnt it over a period of a long time, what those words, never giving up means, they mean, no matter what happens, one should have faith, keep learning from your mistakes and keep moving forward.

Keep Exploring yourself and do what your heart tells you to do!

But, as they say-we all love doing somethings in life, which become part of our routine and so is PG and this thread..!:)

I love my brown pull over jacket..its just so comfortable..i have been wearing it for ages now..no, i wont change it..its so become a part of me..

have you ever given these many justifications for your choice of clothing..or shall we say fashion statement.., well if you have then welcome to my club..:)

I have this brown pull over jacket with me..that i have been wearing for last 4months @ IMT-Dubai campus now..yea, u heard me right for four straight months..if you are shocked, let me tell you, you are not the first one and if you are not, than you are one of me..thanks.

I have this thing with me, once i fall in love with a tee, jacket, and so on..i keep on wearing it for a season at least, last winter it was a blue denim jacket and this winter its my allen solly brownie..which i can't get enough of..

So,why do i keep on repeating my brown jacket, no more points, simple one line answer..

Its comfortable, Its Hip,Its Withing my Reach, and I love it..!

Okay, I agree, I have not been doing justice to this thread and sharing all of what i have been going though over the last couple of months now, but I am sure,my B-school brotherns would be able guess quite accurately, whats its to be like coming to your end of MBA and searching for that all elusive and inclusive job.:D

Well, so have been going through the motions up till now for myself, where in, i have been trying to sit in every damn interview coming for me. you know,th things you do when you are started off your career and are ready to compromise any thing to everything.

So,here i was today sitting in the office of one of the biggest retailer in UAE, and thinking for once, what the hell, I am doing here..but then thankfully regaining my composure to ascertain that, i had come there for an job interview.

Job Interview Environment

Now, you know folks, sometimes you just walk into an office and feel like working over there some day, you know things like- big brand, shiny office, good receptionist and a good looking HR Chic..you know what i mean..

Well, the interview i went today had all these qualities but yet it didn't attract me,it felt like "Been there, Done That!", the Golden Cage was calling and i was there at the Gate..Me and My Career Strategy..

There were talks among the office staff, for a persons visa to Swiz coming next week, then there was another who was stuck in berlin due to Lufthansa strike, and i was like..ohh this what they meant, when the job description said and i quote "The Job involves Travelling..!";) and i was already on my way to a US Green card.

15 mins later walked into the interview room with 3 board members ready to take my interview.Lets call them Mr.$, & and * for easy reference.I wont get into detail of the interview cause it was quite generic as is the case with most of the interviews in Gulf. Interview went on for 7 mins, i don't know what they learnt about me but one thing i realized about myself, that i would form now on do only, what i love doing.

Here are few of my learnings from today;

1. Concentrate on Long Term and not Short Term.
2. Think Big.
3. Do what you love doing but before you do that, first find out what you love doing.;)
4. Before helping others, help yourself first.:clap:

Life Moving along @IMT-D!

Last couple of months left of what has been an amazing journey..!

As in a cricket test match- the excitement and uncertainty of the climax has reached me, over here at IMT-Dubai!

How have things changes for Me over the Last Sem here at IMT-D!

1. Assignments and Projects have become part of life,so much so that, i don't have to think where do i get my next idea from, part of life.

2.Mid-Sem exams don't worry me that much, on the contary I enjoy giving last of my exams in MBA.

3. Suprise Quizes are no more a surprise- its like yeah Sir- "been there, Done That!"

4. I like been overloaded with work, and find it strange if I am not.

5.Working in a Team and Understanding the team dynamics, which member will work and who will not, is now easy to make out, which make things so much easier.

The Mayonnaise Jar
( Loved it so Sharing it with you all over here.!:))

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle,
When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class
and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous yes.

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively
filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

Now, said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - family,
children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions
Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else The small stuff.

If you put the sand into the jar first, He continued,
there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first
The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
Im glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
theres always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.
