Department of Management Studies, NIT Trichy organizes a certification programme in association with the JURAN Institute on Lean six sigma for the students. Juran Institute, a pioneer in the field of quality management has been conducting weekend sessions for the students of DoMS. Budding Managers need to assist the organization where they are going to be associated in ensuring quality in their products and Services.
Lean Six Sigma is the best known quality improvement method which is used widely across all industries. Lean Six Sigma is a combination of two successful methods that organizations use to reduce waste, defects, and general mistakes; lean manufacturing and the six sigma methodology. These Certifications improve a candidates chances of getting hired in areas of training, consulting and process re-engineering. The Institute is offering its flagship Green Belt program. This certification equips the participants to lead projects and to assist Lean Six sigma Black Belts in large cross functional projects. The course is provided in two phases which meets global requirements of JURAN institute whose clients include Samsung and Telefonica. The course is comprehensive with examples and case studies across a spectrum of industries.
Phase 1 includes 35 hours of class room training with Lean Six Sigma Assignment workbook completion and an individual Proficiency assessment. Phase 2 includes a Project that ought to be completed by the fellow students and a final Green Belt exam that has to be taken up by them.
The Topics range from Historical Perspective of Lean & Six Sigma to Industry specific applications and case studies. I read an article in a newspaper on how Motorola used six sigma training to become huge again. Two decades ago, the company was down on its luck which could have been finished off by a financial recession at any time. Today it is one of the most prominent cell phone brands in the world. Motorola did not go out and bring in a team of outside management and training consultants. No, what they did was nothing less than develop a new way of training staff and of manufacturing their products, a method which saw their profits rise and had such profound effects on the success of the company that everyone else wanted to know how they had managed it. The secret was Six Sigma.
Thus, the certification would enable people display proficiency in controlling quality and increasing profits, which would be very fruitful for any aspiring Entrepreneur. So is for any business firm. Also, it would enhance the desirability thereby fortifying the relationship among workers. DoMS is one of the very few B schools to provide Six Sigma certification along with the course. Eventually, the certification would shape up a Managers career and his dreams in running a successful business organization.

While the Indian Hockey Team was celebrating its emphatic victory and subsequent selection to Olympics and the Indian Cricket Team packing their bags after yet another shameful series, Jagtaar Singh sang all the way to glory. Sunday was all shining for this 'Haryanvi' from Ambala who went on to score one of the highest in 'Intramural cup' and is also a member of NIT-T hockey team.His 68 of 46 balls in 20 over game helped the P.G. team score an unachievable target of 152.Everyone contributed but 'Jaggi' as freinds call him thrashed the bowlers with 12 boundaries :clap:with a strike rate close to 150.The opponents could not tackle the pace of Osama Zaid and could reach only 101 :banghead:.The P.G. team finished runner-up in the tournament and Jagtaar in a league of his own .

then came Mr. Mohan who could lift the communication experience as a listener to a whole new jaunre.. the advertising land.. Mohan sir was just another Steve jobs i can say by the style of communication..

Dr. Ravi was another hot cake selling wisely the The BIG data and making the customers( read the audience) spell bound by the technical and managerial aspects of predictive analytics covered by him..

Swarzkopf, as the name suggests was a class apart. The knowledge of strategies shared by him was mind blowing!!

You have to know what their palate is and then feed them!!

One memorable trip i would not forget....one escape i would not regret

The one thing that you crave for in hostel life is good food and this is an unpalatable fact across the institutions.Thus, getting invited to our freind Gaurav's sister reception party at B.H.E.L. township was like a bail-out from the mess food.(Caution : The writer is spoilt on home cooked food and has ultra sensitive taste buds which hardly appreciate anything). In a lot many days there was something else to look forward to inthe evening other than assignments.


B.H.E.L. township is only a few kilometers from NIT Trichy and a partner in many many academic & industrial training & consulting projects.But the addition of this dimension of getting invited to parties has added spice to the curry. Boys and Girls dressed up in the best of their clothes ready to indulge in gastronomical and culinary extravagance.


Gaurav, dressed in a suit looked handsome , welcomed us into the Community centre and introduced to the newly wedded couple. After exchange of Greeting and Wishes, we got pictures clicked and then moved towards the dining area where a scumptuous dinner awaited us.Well, the food served was of typical south Indian style, TamilNadu special I would say.That was quite a feast for all vegeterians who had come for the wedding..uthappam, Raitha, Chappathis,Potato chips, vegetable biriyani ,sambar rice,curd rice, kesari, Idly, badam milk etc.. uhff..That was a huge menu.. Delicious ofcourse... people who miss their home food became quite nostalgic after eating the dishes served at the wedding.In search of a word better than 'Feast' to describe the meal that we had..It was totally awesome!!



What followed was traditional dance for which some us joined. Once in a while a 'Paan' would do no harm to your managerial manners and thus we picked some.Had it not been for pending assignments we would have stayed a bit longer .Thus, it was time to say Goodbye and brings an end to my little trip in search of good food and quality time and it scored high in both areas.

It's been six long months since I joined DoMS.. I'm just wondering how time flew this fast..Two trimesters are about to get over... and I should say I have learnt and experienced a lot.. Got to know the people of different cultures and attitudes. and yeah.. Have learnt part of Human resources concepts out of this.. Even after two trimesters, 'Financial Accounting' is still a conundrum for me. Knowledge just oozes in Guest lectures and workshops and I'm still learning how to make use of them properly. I have made many new friends here and it's really cool to be here.The climate here in Trichy is warm and thats the only issue with this place.. Otherwise, it's a cool place to stay in. How can I ever forget to mention about the food. The food that was served in the mess was really bad at the beginning. You know you gotta be candid at times. But now, I have gotten used to it.. It's good now in 2012..Perhaps, the caterer's resolution this year would have been that to serve good food!! There are quite a few eating outlets inside college where we get decent and good food. Life at DoMS altogether is just awesome..!!

'Jinson' was one of the members of the core committee behind mPulse..! The line of speakers is simply fantastic..! Right from Core Marketing to Predictive analytics, these guys have put in lot of effort to bring speakers on a wide array of topics.

We are eager to get lot of GYAN this weekend! And probably distribute little of that in our trimester exams..!!

less then 4 months back we came to DoMS - NIT Trichy and now we are getting real responsibilities, although it started right from the FIRM Games and Firm culturals but it is now we have started feeling the heat :):).
It's good to see our batch-mates in different committees and Clubs handling their respective activities efficiently.
Moreover best part is the proactive nature of some of our batch-mates which is resulting in initiation of many new things

Diwali Holiday came to end. Classes starts from tomorrow, and THE NEWS is that all our classes missed due to holiday will be adjusted this week, means we are going to have 2 weeks classes in 1 week.
But this is what MBA is.

Stepped in 2nd Trimester with new expectations, most of our professors this time are new. Got some real good Professors but we also miss professors like Mr. Kannan, because of his immense experience in corporate world and top institutes(as visiting faculty) we learned a lot from him.

-What are the costs involved in the shift?
-Are we looking at the Cost benefit analysis on the change?
- Has India been given enough representation in the trustees group?
-What advantage we have over our Chinese counterparts when implementing IFRS?
-Do we have enough trained members in India to implement the change?

These are just a few questions which he made us to think upon in the two hour session today. I am sure I would have to go and relook at the IFRS not just the objectives and disclosures but also the implications in implementing it! So good work for the weekend..!

1st Trimester exams over yesterday(14 Oct). 2 days less then three month till now, and we took 2 exams. 1st Trimester came after a series of guest lectures, assignments, case studies and quizzes. Life is becoming a little hectic but then there were FIRM games, FIRM culturals, Fun filled Freshers party, and annual extravaganza Festember to help you acclimatize. But as told by seniors that real hectic is yet to come in the upcoming Trimesters. But Irony is that I have started liking all kinds of works and activities here, so I am eagerly waiting for next.

I am travelling back home after completing my exams for the first trimester today. I was just looking through the trains window and was not able to stop myself from thinking about my journey of three months with DoMS NIT Trichy. It just feels like yesterday that I had dropped my luggage at room 106 in Amber B. Three months have flown by swiftly..!!

It is only the fun part which came to my mind first. The moments we played, danced, our eat-outs, our short trips and our unstoppable mokkai sessions in hostel..!! I am puzzled on our improved capacity to complete so many assignments within those deadlines. I am surprised with the way we learnt to have fun along with work. My Professor always says, work your plan and plan your work. I think I have gradually learned to do that in these three months.

Now I know what to expect and what to be expected of from a B School life. I am going back home to quickly get energized for the next trimester which starts in two days!!

Fine fine! I get it before you come into any conclusions; let me make things clear..!! We had dussera celebrations yesterday and concluded the fun with a fantastic dandiya night !!

Friends .. it was awesome..!! Who cares if we do not know the exact steps.. We all do experiential learning..! Most of us did not know how to do it but thanks to few of my class mates they made us perfect the steps..!! We danced for more than two hours..!!

Some workshops are ON.. others catching up in Novemeber.. So life is pretty fast going. met our seniors today, who had come for the convocation. Enjoyed their sharing and Gyan session. Three cheers to our Seniors..

Back from a really awesome....... day...
Motherjane you rock!!! even though i could not understand some of the lyrics, it was just awesome and standing ovation for the lead guitarist. Hope i had another word in my dictionary other than SIMPLY SUPERB!!!

And this was all after an 8 hour training session by resource persons from Blore.. Hats off to Kirti madam, the resource person.
Let me not forgot Sateesh Medapati's lecture tomorrow.. So it is time to doze off after a day of hectic activity and fun

Which phase of human life cycle are you in ? Which products would be of interest to you..? These were two questions which made me look marketing in a different angle today. We were privileged to listen to a lecture on STP (Segmentation Targeting and Positioning) by Prof. Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, IIM Trichy. I would not need to explain my enthusiasm in attending it.

He put forth fundamental questions on our understanding of markets and marketing. He was so comfortable in building up the concepts every brick at a time and making students enticed to the concepts. He explained the concept of segmentation using toothpaste as an example. He made us understand how effectively the market has to be segmented and how close we can reach our target customer.

We were amazed with the examples he used to discuss the topic Kesari Travels, McDonalds, Benadryl, Medimix,Cadbury, Vicks, Tide, Hero Honda, Captain Cook, 7 UP .. The list goes on..! I am happy to have received an opportunity to attend his lecture. It has instilled more interest in this field..! Thank you Sir..!

Engulfed in the storm of exams. We are having our midterms now and as usual the the utility of electricity and sometimes the laptops has tremendously gone up.
Today some of us had one of our most liking papers Services Mktng and the instructions at the top read in bold( apart from the usual instucs) "Negative marks for those who do not strictly adhere to the questions". The implication being that people cannot bluff. And i enjoyed this point, at the same time i am contemplating some negative marks in some questions.;)

Guys the switching cost of not logging out now from pg might affect my 2 xams scheduled for tomorrow. So

Thank you seniors for all the efforts at the FIRM cultural s we enjoyed every bit of it.

On 26th August 2011, we had Dr.Chitra Arvind, Principal Associate at Rejeswari & Associates a distinguished expert in the field of patenting delivered a lecture on Patenting for Scientists. Dr.Chitra first described the concept of patenting to the enthusiastic crowd. She also illustrated the importance of patenting, its benefits, opportunities and the loss of revenue if a product is not patented with a ubiquitous example of Aspirin which was not patented by its original discoverer in the 19th century but was later patented in the 20th century, which is now used in the treatment of wide variety of diseases. And also the story of rags to riches of the owner of DOSA PLAZA who started with a roadside tea shop and only by patenting his combination of delicacies (food items such as noodles in dosa) is now the owner of a chain of restaurants.

Dr.Chitra left no stone unturned in explaining the process of patenting right from the scratch of making lab notes, awareness of prior art and difference between research and lab notes. She also touched upon Bayh Dole Act and the pending of formulation and implementation of such act in India.
She then went on to explain Geographical Indication and sited examples of the likes of KanchipuramSarees, Basmati Rice and Champagne. She also explained Trade Secret, Industrial Design and Trade Mark. While explaining Trademark she explained how misuse of trademark can be an offence with an apt example. These are the session that gives valuable insights into the real world to the students, in the comforts and guidance of college and Dr.Chitra, being an expert in the field didnt disappoint the audience. It was a great learning session and everyone at DoMS NITT will always be indebt to her for her valuable insights.
We at DoMS will wait for many more such insightful and intriguing session as we believe in staying hungry without being foolish!!

WooooooW... I am back from my FIRM Cultural and am completely in a mood to party..! Indeed life is incredible in DoMS..! We had a incredible time last one month playing every single sport you can ask for. We concluded this journey of ours today with FIRM cultural.

FIRM is medium for us to know more about our friends in class and also our seniors. The journey aims to make our relationship FIRM. And I am very sure it achieved its ambition. We enjoyed ourselves during this process and also got to learn more. I again want to thank our seniors for their incredible effort in organizing it..!!:clap:

I said I am in a mood to party. What do you expect after three interesting hours of dance, music and fun? Every team portrayed their skills and made the day fun filled. But we still had the competitive spirit to out beat others. Did I mention we even had a fashion show..? The day was awesome man..! I need to make a special mention to Ribhas song in Tamil..! Ribha You are the best!!!

After an hour long of photo shoot, we did not feel like coming back to hostel. We wanted to day to continue. But I am not sure if I would say the same line after my exams next week..!! So Back to regular work no more party today !!
