My team Galacticos won the BIM Premier League cricket trophy. That makes it a flawless record of winning all 3 sports tournaments during the academic year. What's better is that we are the only team to have played in all 6 sports finals during these two years, winning 4 out of them.

Our opponents in the finals were our buddies, the Huntos, the strongest team in PGP1. We opted to field first and bowled out the Huntos for 36. We finished things off in 4 overs.

We won the award for the Best Team Mascot and I received an award for the Best Commentator in all 3 sporting events. Doing commentary in sports is one thing I would deeply miss in BIM.

Convocation and Sangam have come and gone. Was great meeting up with most of my immediate seniors. Been through a hectic week with classes happening in parallel but still managed to interact with some of my close senior friends.

Did the role of a king for a tribal dance in Sangam and surprisingly the audience liked it. Played the role of Raavan (Ra11, in fact) for my cricket team in the BPL jersey unveiling event the next day and received applause. Headed to Chennai immediately for some personal work and came back the next day, played the first match against the ThunderX which we won comfortably.

Today is a lean day with no classes scheduled, so relaxing

Yesterday can be called a 'Red' Day with a majority of us wearing red to mark the colourful countdown to Sangam. Had a photoshoot with PGP1 and it has come out well thanks to Karthikeyan and his photography skills.

Today's theme colour is Blue and there's a good mix of both light and dark blue doing the rounds. PGP2 will have the photoshoot today.

"Colours" is the theme for Sangam this year. Tomorrow's theme is 'Red' and Kalaicom has asked everyone of us to wear red tomorrow. Just remembered that I'd been wearing red during the last three days and even yesterday while umpiring, I was wearing red.

PGP2 won the exhibition match held earlier today. Had a great time umpiring in the match. Played a practice game after that in the new pitch with runs on all sides. In the meantime, did a small video shoot for Sangam.

Going to umpire in the Exhibition match between PGP1 and PGP2 this evening. Prelude to the upcoming cricket tournament, BIM Premier League. Pitch is relaid, rolled and looks like a great surface to bat on. Can't wait for the evening.

That time of the year when all the committees are busy working : : Kalaicom for Sangam, Messcomm for special convocation dinner, Sportscomm for cricket tournament with Bismarc and Finclub in tow.

Went through a 45-minute aerobic workout this evening. Doing the workout was hard and painful but feeling lighter in body and mind now.

SANGAM is the talk of the town. Eagerly looking forward to it. Can't wait.

Watching the Indian batting collapse in Perth is definitely not the right way to celebrate Pongal. But life goes on, we move on and am gearing up for the final 3 months of my academic life. Leaving to Trichy on 17th night in a multi-axle Volvo . Consumer Behaviour class first-up on 18th.

Vacation Time:-
Enjoying a lot with my loved ones while counting of days has already started.

Had a wonderful train journey to Chennai last evening with most of my friends travelling with me. A different experience considering that I usually travel alone in a bus. Hope for a rocking 10 days of vacation before the final term of college life sets upon me.

Can't believe 2011 is done and dusted with and 2012 is here. Time has flown very fast. Lots of good things to look back at and hoping lots more will happen this year.

3 more exams and then it'll be Destination Homeward.

Had a wonderful New year celebrations,thanks to Kalaicom 28.... It was an awesome evening in the middle of excruciating 5th trimester end terms. Had a wonderful after a real long time.

Looks like cyclone Thane is showing its mini-trailer here in Trichy. After days of cold nights (with temperatures dipping to 10 degrees on some days), the rains have come out again. Continuous rains means another trip to the flowing-in-full-force Cauvery river bridge.

Went to Samayapuram temple on my birthday. Bought some prasadam,stopped over at the Cauvery bridge in Srirangam on the way back, ate the prasadam atop the river. An experience to remember !

Have begun working out to reduce my paunch and it seems to be working well. Six successive days of jogging on the BHEL road is pure bliss.

Time really flying fast. 5th term exam for 2 weeks followed by a 10-day vacation and then the final term of academic life would be upon us. And before we realize it, it would be all over.

Random thoughts like these ran through my mind as I was walking to the computer centre to take a printout of my hall ticket.

5th sem started today (23rd dec'11) and it will go on till 7th Jan. Will be holidays till 18th Jan I guess...

My exams start from 27th .. Awaiting for sleepless nights once again....

CHIAROSCURO, the movie club has arranged for a screening of "The Bicycle Thieves" at the open air theatre in BHEL. It is currently running and most of the first years seem to have gone there as the hostel area wears a deserted look.

Just done with CRM class and have B2B coming up at 9. Night classes after a long time, the last time I had a night class was in last trimester.

CRM and Brand Management courses concluded successfully today. Both professors, visiting faculty members, had a positive feedback for us. That time in college when you take leave of a professor with the hope that your paths cross each other some time in future.

Spikes ans Smashes, the volley ball tournament at BIM, conducted by the sportscom begins tomorrow. 12 teams have registered totally and are all geared up for action. Its going to be an exciting and refreshing week, especially after a jam packed 7 days with midterm exams.

Yours truly was one of the seniors offering gyan at Gyan Labs last week. The juniors were full of energy, enthusiastically listening to my words. Hope they land great profiles in their summers.

It has become a familiar sight - that of seeing the Galacticos win every single sporting event in campus. This time it was volleyball and badminton. Great one week of sporting action came to an late night yesterday. I was doing commentary and enjoyed every bit of it. Felt happy to receive so many applauses from the audience, probably the greatest award I received from the tournament.

Looking forward to cricket next trimester. Back to jogging and stretching, and of course, academics, presentations and the regular grind from tomorrow onwards.

Got placed finally. Was a great learning experience, the whole process. Wouldn't have felt bad even if I had not got in. Left the campus on 30th with a lot of hope, came back this morning with lot of satisfaction.

Gyan Labs interactive session on summer internships this evening. I remember the same session last year when I was sitting there as a naive student seeking answers to a number of questions. Landed an internship with a leading foods company at the beginning of 2011, rounding the year off with a final offer from a leading business house.

Two exams today. First time for me in B-school. Excited.

Midnight oil burning time. Cups and cups of tea , packs and packs of glucose biscuits, sachets and sachets of Tang to keep us awake.

Done with CRESCITA. Very insightful speaker sessions and panel discussions. Liked the session on marketing by Mr. Ramakrishnan, President-Mktg, Cafe Coffee Day.

Thoroughly enjoyed the two days in Chennai. Felt happy to receive an award for my winning an inter-college event during the last 5 months; was overwhelmed by the loud clapping that happened when I was walking on to the stage.

Am staying back in Chennai for a placement interview scheduled tomorrow. Mid-term season coming up on wednesday. Gotta get back to acads.

Starting to Chennai tonight for the flagship event Crescita. Super excited... looking forward for a weekend filled with fun and learning.

Meanwhile the volleyball season has begun. The tournament is expected to happen in the first week of December. Preparations already underway as the players, both professional and amateur, hone their spiking skills in the everyday (or rather everynight) practice sessions.

All set for the Chennai trip tomorrow night. Looking forward to the Marketing speaker session by K.Ramakrishnan, President-Marketing,Cafe Coffee Day. Also time for me to catch up with a friend who is back from US after an 18-month onsite trip.

Posting after more than a week. Been busy with placement activities. Still waiting for a big fish that is coming my way.

Next week we would all be heading to Chennai for our annual mgmt conference CRESCITA. Speaker sessions and panel discussions dot this 2-day event which will be graced by eminent personalities from the industry. It is a one of our initiatives towards industry interaction.

After that comes the mid-term exams which are expected to be a truncated affair (ending in just 5 days as the schedule plan says). Lot of practical understanding of courses this trimester, thanks to the faculty members who have been keeping us on our toes with case studies, assignments, presentations etc. Have to get started with the theory part.

BIM was witness to a one of kind rendezvous with the whos who of the corporate world today (6/11/2011) as its students actively took part in the workshop on Strategic marketing organized by the Chennai chapter of the Alumni Association from Indian institute of management, Calcutta. The agenda for the day covered presentations by shortlisted teams on Coffee, Tea or Internet?, a case about the Store in store Caf Bean Counter and More than a match, a case about the ticketing and recruitment strategies for the IPL team Deccan chargers.
Shri. Ashok Jayaraman, President of the IIMC alumni association, Chennai chapter, set the ball rolling by issuing the guidelines for evaluating the student presentations. Shri. J. Kalyankrishnan, Shri K R Chandrasekaran, Shri Mohan Eddy and BIMs very own Prof. Sundar completed the judges panel for the presentations.
The presentations from the students were highly insightful and the dignitaries were of the opinion that there was thorough analysis on part of the students in analysing all possible recommendations for the problems posed in both the cases. The student presentations were followed by presentations by Shri. KR Chandrasekaran and Shri. J.Kalyankrishnan sharing their experiences on how they strategically approached the problem statements given in the cases during their earlier corporate roles as the COO of Java Green (a SIS model of Caf chain around India) and CEO of Deccan Chargers respectively.
The workshop culminated with the team comprising of Sudhir Sam, Shreenidhi Prabhu, Saravana Krishnan and Sriram of PGP I being declared the winners of the workshop and the team of Achal Sreedharan, Jyotsna Menon, Arjun Venugopal and Sreejesh Neelanath of PGP I claiming the runners up spot. Both these teams have been selected to represent BIM in the second leg of the event to be conducted in Chennai where they will be competing against the winners from other reputed B schools from the region.
The day turned out to be an enlightening experience for the students, as they gathered scores of inputs on strategic planning for real life business situations from very experienced players from the industry which would no doubt be of immense help for their careers post BIM.

Had the Strategic Marketing workshop conducted by IIMC Alumni Association Chennai Chapter today. Two case presentations on the Food & Beverages industry and IPL were done. Got some useful insights from one Mr. J.Krishnan who has been associated with the Deccan Chargers from IPL season 1 onwards.

The game begins today @9.30PM, where the fate of many of 2012 batch will be decided !

Misfortune of misfortunes - my new bike's rear tyre got punctured and while it was being mended, I had to use a junior's Wego for going to MHD campus. Drove a gearless after a long time, evoked laughter in all those who saw a giant structure driving a gearless.

Placement season has begun. Whole campus is abuzz with resume updation, certificates collation, reflection of the past, interview preparations....all set for the D-day (Nov 2)

This being monsoon season today was cloudy morning. I hardly get up early , but dunno why ,woke up by 6 in the morning and was not feeling sleepy , jus came out of my room to get a glimpse of what I would rate the most beautiful thing i ever saw in BIM . . a peacock dancing , flaring all its wings. it was such a beauty !!!!

Looks like the folks who have stayed back in campus are having a great time out there. They almost scared two poor souls to death by bursting crackers inside their rooms They shot a video of the whole thing and it was funny seeing the reaction of those two guys.

It is for this fun that I am always eager to get back to campus each time I come home. Leaving tomorrow afternoon, will reach in the evening.

i have always had the penchant for travelling but never could travel much.
But my job in a big 4 company allowed me to travel to remote places of uttar pradesh, jharkhand , nagur and even remote places of goa ( 3 months)

@Rohit, Trichy is located right at the centre of Tamilnadu and is an important connecting point between Chennai and south Tamilnadu (Madurai,Rameswaram etc). To be frank, it is not a town of pubs and coffee shops but there are various other things such as the Kallanai dam across the Kaveri river, rock fort temple, srirangam temple, tanjore etc that make it a city worth visiting.

For the first time in 1.5 years,worked for an entire week on one presentation - ERP along with Rajkumar and successfully completed it. Hoping to get positive reviews from Visiting faculty.

And tomo is diwali, more than 200+ students went home and i'm one of the rest 40 who are yet to go .Hopefully I too will be leaving in another 5 or 6 hours as I need to work on ISO documents of Crescita'11,the flagship event of BIM.

Been a bit laid back during the last week - sleeping for longer than usual, skipping breakfast on a couple of days - went into a comfort zone only to discover that 5 deadlines are staring at me. Gotta gear up.

Friend and fellow puy kamalaandi is getting married on Monday. A trip to Madurai before I set off to Chennai for Diwali. Would be spending time with books given the impending placement season.

Talking about placements, we had the pre-placement talk by Murugappa Group yesterday. Two of our alumni, one from the 19th and the other from our senior (26th) batch came and offered us gyaan on the company, job profile, work culture, personal advice etc.

Diwali & Placements are approaching... Dreadfully happy . 2nd years are sincerely preparing to crack the companies of their choice. Lot of changes have been brought in the workings of Placement committee and lot of new companies are expected this year...

And yeah, I'm yet to start my preparation

Adrenaline has reached a peak at MARWAR. After choosing an offering and giving it a name and a tagline, the teams are now done with their market research. Analysis of the survey results on in full swing as the deliverable, to be submitted at midnight, takes shape.

I myself am guiding a team and it feels great to see the enthusiasm levels among the team members.

Battle time in campus. MARWAR, the annual Marketing Warfare game was officially inaugurated last night by Dr. S. Jayakrishna, Prof Abhishek Kumar and Prof Sabari Raghavendran.

Day 1 today. Presentations by the teams and the guides after which guides will be assigned to teams. The guides are known as "Ministers" and the teams, "Troops". Video shoots, photo shoots, video cutting, audio mixing, etc happening in full swing (As I type this, a friend is asking for MP3 cutter software in IP Messenger ). Time to indulge in the fundas of Kotler and Sun Tzu.

About 50% of students have gone to their homes in TN and Bangalore, the rest are staying back in campus. Apparently a trip to Puliyancholai has been planned. A small stream located 80 kms from Trichy between Thuraiyur and Namakkal, I had been to the same place at the same time (during Durga Puja) last year.

Classes commence on 7th itself and an assignment already - read an IT Strategy case and come prepared for discussions.

Had a 2-hour long birthday bash last night for a fellow Galacticos member. The fellow made sure every one of us got cake cream applied on our faces. Not stopping with that, we gathered our junior buddies, the Huntos, and gave them facial treatment.

also,1 query pops up with the ranking which i found nowhere apart from here to ask.had BIM fallen into the cluster of 25 then it could have differed by a slight , say +5/-5 elsewhere apart from the sources you've mentioned.But here itself at pagalguy, where you guys are mostly active in this thread,how is it that it stands at 56?ain't it a huge margin?well,going by the placement scenarios that BIM's website has published, it should definitely fall into the top 25 if not the top 30s.then what is the segregating factor that have pushed it's name that far?have asked many including but not limited to the faculties of the mostly renowned age old coaching centers.They too have said that it is the quota(TN) that might have made it so.But when I asked about the quality of education provided there,which you can enlighten me even more,their prompt reply was WONDROUS!!!

I am not a student of BIM, an applicant but these are the facts I would like to highlight.There are a few other B-schools like Jamnalal Bajaj,which has seats for Non-Maharashtrians as few as 18 out of 120 so is for XIMB-Bhubaneshwar which has a quota of 85% reserved for Orissa people and there are plenty like them.So does it actually hamper the reputation of the b-school?The problem is not with the b-schools, but the country we are living in. BIM being a Govt aided B-school has less TN seats than what they have.

And yes,the coaching centres, where you have asked about BIM,themselves have shown BIM in their top 25-30 list.I dont know which coaching centre are you referring yo but I am referring IMS,Career Launcher and TIME which are the "mostly renowned age old coaching centers".

Pagalguy's ranking is perception-based ranking and does not provide the true picture. BIM has been there for the last 27 years and the quality of education is as good as an above average B-school.

The quota exists because BIM is a TN government B-school and hence has to comply with the norms laid down by Bharathidasan University (TN Govt university based in Trichy). However the current 1st year batch (28th batch) has got a rich mix of people from outside of the four southern states. We conducted interviews in Delhi,Mumbai,Hyderabad and Kolkata in addition to the usual Bangalore,Chennai and Trichy and that has brought in a difference in diversity.

Went to NIT campus for their September fest "Festember". Watched 'Crazy' Mohan's laugh riot "Chocolate Krishna" before taking part in JAM and a Tamil crossword competition. Reminded me of my engineering days when I used to participate in such events in CEG and IIT-M. A section of us has gone there to watch the Choreo Nite. More events lined up for tomorrow and day after.
