Please help me out. I am in utter despair. I have got 86 percentile in cat this year. my profile is decent with 3 years of work exp in IT sector in one of india's leading IT giant. I want to switch from IT to gas and oil as I am basically a Chemical engineering graduate and in IT sector I dont see further
advancement of my career.

Please advice me if there are people in IPMG with my kind of experience or would I be the single case. What are my prospects of getting through all the
admission process??If any IPMGian could give me his or her phone number I think it would be better if I call and ask my queries.

its rakesh here i have just qualified for PGDPM-EX 2 yrs course quarterly 1 week classroom course , presently working in MNC in oil and gas/ refinary plant design (piping/stress engineer-design) i have 3 yrs of total exp with 1 yr in site execution at iocl .\present ctc of mine is round 5.5l , pursuing this course what your experiance says that ppl from design field will have opportunity with the companies coming thier for campus placement or off campus will they consider my current experiance as relevant to them as my present experiance is more technical then managerial.

The list of placement companies is putup on website under Admission 2008...

The package is not yet clear from all the companies but what all i know currently is it ranges b/w 3.5 to 10.5L

Who is taking tension buddy... But over here they would be recruiting for their energy division where one needs to deal with Sesmic survey,integration s/w for drilling equipments.. etc.. inshort domain knowledge expert so as to help in s/w development..

I Want to share some info with u.Just now i have talked to one of my friend in UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM AND ENERGY STUDIES,DEHRADUN.The Avg. package they are getting there is 3.5 -4 lac.Also there only PSU's coming.none of the MNC's had come.Other than this only RELIANCE recriuted .The situation is frightening for him as he did not sit for any placement as the Package being offered is very less,and is waiting for some big/gud Company to come.

Is the situation that bad in the Petoleum Oil & gas Sector.As IPMG is in nascent stage.What min. package you expect will be offered to students in IPMG.Do u expect any international offer.

One thing i will like to add,The friend i'm talking about is a Fresher Computer Engg. (Academics thru out 1st div.)Acc. to him as his Educational background is not related to this Sector,that's why he is facing the heat.

Donno about exact situation in petroleum sector.. but
1)Petroleum sector is currently into acute shortage of human resource...
2)This is also true that petroleum sector still think that its only engineers who can work in it and thus they have a preference....
3)The placement week of IPMG has not yet started, its scheduled in 1st week of feb.
4) Though many companies other than PSU including MNC had shown interest in recruiting but the exact picture or say statistics would be out once it is completed.

About your friends background and being fresher... i cant comment but than being an engineer i think he will get it though he might face a tough competition from chemical and mechanical engineers...
