You'd have to work just as hard as any other professional, to do well.Myth 2: No one picks HR. It's only because they have no other choice, that they do an HR course.Reality: Whoever told you that! In the little circle of people that I know, I can count at least 5 people, who have opted for HR over marketing/finance/operations. And mind you, all the colleges that called them were sterling institutes. But, if you are clear in your mind that HR is your calling, go for it, then!Myth 3: HR is a women's profession.Reality: That's been a case because HR was perceived as a 'softer' profession earlier, but not any more. HR is as competitive as any other stream of management today. There are tough targets in hiring, selection, training, appraisals, consulting etc. Men and women are on equal footing. For example, in my 6 years of workex, I've seen a fair gender mix amongst HR professionals. So, have no worries on that front.P.S. I'll be back with more. I don't claim to be an expert or a 'know it all'. These are just my opinions augmented with some research and interaction with HR gurus in my organization. Please feel free to add on, agree, disagree with me. Its been over a month when that brutal incident took place @ Maruti, Manesar Plant. Let us just understand what went wrong and why did GM (HR) lost his life? Moreover, Why Maruti Manesar Plant has been consistently in news for not so good reasons. What could have been done to save this menace from occurring...

I am sure this must have been very hot topic in XLRI, TISS and other B schools where HR is the core specialization. I would rather request you guys to give us some insight about the incident, from what you got to know from various faculties etc.

I am not specializing in HR, but from whatever we have discussed in one of the classes of "Organisational Behaviour" so far, few key points are:-

*** Management & Conflicts
(1) Socio- Economic Conflict
(2) Inter-personal Conflict
(3) Inter-group Conflicts

-> Manifestation= "nothing has happened" (although something has happened, more like a negotiation)

-> When manifestation crosses over a 'border' , a certain 'act' might happen which leads to a conflict.

-> Perception gap may lead to loss of emotional control. For eg:- what happened @ Maruti recently.

-> Action of one person engulfing the entire organization.

-> Sometimes a strike can also be seen as an oppurtunity rather than a threat (think how??), for eg:- what happened during the recent airlines strike.


*** You have to apply the concepts of Emotional Intelligence for the case under consideration***

Hi ,currently I have 30 months of work ex in IT industry and by the time i will be appearing for interviews i will be having 36 month of work ex..I am really interested in pursuing HR as a career. Is this much work ex especially in IT a -tive or should i say do people with this much work ex are able to make to TISS or XLRI for HR?...My brief profile is

Earlier i had an inclination towards Finance because of the types of profiles offered, salary,etc and what not?..But with that comes the intense work load,stress(I've read the reports about the lives of investment bankers) which has enabled me to think of HR.

i would like to know more about hr management.
and finally

which are the best institutes other than xlri and tiss which are known for hr management..and also which are the best profiles offered in HR..

what i already know is
HR provides
1.Decent pay
2.Decent working hours.
3.Relatively less stress.
4. A balanced lifestyle.

If you are from a good B-school (read XLRI, IIMABCL*), you straight away get live client projects. Within first year of joining most of them get onsite opportunities. One of the big-4 even sent interns from my college to onsite.
Others start with back-office research. Some work on Surveys and the Quaterly/annual reports that these consults sell in the market. (Example - Annual Salary survey in financial sector by #####)

*If you are surprised to see IIMs here, don't be. Some of them get interested in the HR consulting and join the same, However most of the HR consultants in India are XLers

2)Why is that there are no worker unions in IT industry?
3) How HR manager's role is different from that of a General Manager?
4)How would you determine how good a company's HR wing is without having contact with any of the employees?
5)Why the name changed to hrm from pmir?
6)Why gd only for hrm, not for bm?
7)PM,IR,HR..difference?
