Looking at the ONGC advt, there are 4 openings for MBAs

15. Transport

16. Finance and Accounts

17. HR

18. Material Management

My doubts are:

1. What will be the worlk profile in Transport

2. They have asked MBA with specialization in Material Management/Inventory Control. I have done my M.B.A. from IIFT and in my College, specialisation is determined by the no. of electives you take in the Final Year. There is no certificate given for the specialisation. How to deal with this?

3. In the entrance Exam tehre will be Three Papers, general Awareness, Aptitude Test and Subject Knowledge.

I have not given exam before in which MBAs have to appear for the paper of the subject knowledge. If any one of you have experience of any such papers in which our Core Subjects like Finance, Marketing or operation are judged then please share your experience.

I am working for a MNC for past 1 year. I love my work and I am getting a lot of attention. I know after 6-7 years I can be in a managerial position. Lots of stuff to add value are also possible in this 6-7 years (MBA,PMP, switching ).

Now , I am looking at the PSU job notification and am getting tempted by the starting salary they offer( almost double of my current salary). If I join a PSU , what will be the picture like after 5-6/7 years? How often does the increments happen in public sector?

A comparision between a person with 6 yrs of IT exp and 6 yrs of PSU exp would be good (in terms of money and further growth prospects). Thanks a ton . You might have changed a life today..

when u love ur work there is no need to worry... u should continue ur job and the hikes in mnc will be higher than that of psus... in psu theincrese will be only 3% every yr

cant expect the cutoffs it will be different for different xams.... it depends on many factors like no. of vacancies, no. of people writing the xam and also it will b different for different branches and also for different categories vizz gen, obc, sc, st

Also usually Sail MT happens in september ..will der be two exams this year ?

sail MT xam happens once in a year and 2013 passing out people can't give the xam.....it is only for 2012 passed outs and the before batches... anyway lot of time is there for u to prepare so be prepared for nxt yr and also all the best

Hi puys

I am presently working in a PSU (say X). But on my first date of commencement of trainee program I took a leave and went to give an interview of another PSU(say XX) in which I didn't mention about X. I am now selected in XX.

Firstly, will I be requiring any NOC for X? I am thinking its not required as although I gave the interview on joining date, I could'nt have managed the NOC before being an employee of X.

Secondly, If I now manage to get Relieving Certificate from X will that end the need for a NOC?

Lastly, If I do not mention of X during employment in XX could I get caught? i will surely resign from X.

IES is Indian Engineering Services. The equivalent of IAS which is for Administrative services.

IES exam is not easy. You need several months of preparation. If you get selected, posting will be in railways and other engineering sectors. Career prospects are the best. You can retire as directors and chairman of highly reputed govt organizations.

Take a look at the previous page for the list of PSUs. Google for their ads. Almost all PSU have requirements for mech. In ongc, bhel, gail etc, most vacancies are for mech. Age limit is usually 26, some have 30.

No idea about books. If you are clear with fundamentals and theory, that'd be enough. They don't go deep into any topic. To be honest, if you are from general category, it'll require more effort as cut-off is very high.

61% is too low for most PSUs. The min required percentage is 65 in most cases. Some companies like ISRO even do a screening based on the received applications and set a higher cutoff for the written exam. So those who just make the cut might not even get a chance to appear for the written test.

Take a look at each companies' advertisement to be sure.

JTO is for Junior Telecom Officer conducted by BSNL. They haven't been conducting it lately. Last time it was in 2009 June-July. Job is free of hassle, but you'll bored pretty soon coz in some cases your only job will be to sign documents.

If maha/nav/miniratna status is what you meant, Google will be of better help.

All PSUs are good with merits and demerits based on where you get posted. Pay is also good with 6 lpa and upwards.

PGCIL - mainly for electrical guys. has the highest CTC. 12+ lpa followed by

GAIL- 9-11.8. Posting will be in very remote places. has the highest allowances.

ONGC too is in the same bracket. Have heard that ONGC pays the highest in-hand amount. posting can be in remote places in oil rigs.

BHEL work culture is one of the best among PSUs. pay 7.5-8.5 lpa depending on posting. have locations in cities also. so luck is a factor.

IOC ~9 lpa. work culture is good.

NTPC- posting is in remote places, good pay in the 40k range, and generally considered a very good PSU.

BARC- work culture is good. townships and all. monthly emoluments ~47k.

NPCIL- same as BARC.

SAIL- work culture good only if u get posting in their main plant at Bhilai. pay is ~7lpa. but initialy monthly in-hand is among the lowest in all PSUs. ~31k. they cut 5k per month for the first 2 years in case u leave. will pay it back after two years.

CIL- worst pay. ~30k. And the worst work culture among all PSUs as you might have read in newspapers. job posting- remotest of places, where coal is mined. no electricity, carbon monoxide, dust etc will be your friends. favourite place for corrupt bureaucrats and politicians to give punishment transfer to honest govt officers like those in vigilance.
