This is my first year of working in an IT giant at a remote location ie Gandhinagar, where only there are two coaching insitutes at near distance. Endeavour and TIME.

TIME is not having crash course for 2012 during the evenings.
Endeavour doesn't have branches o/s Gujarat.(and i am still on bench, literally; high chances of transfer).

I did receive a call from TIME to join their CAT 2013 batch, which would be 2 times a week. But i feel, that i wouldn't be able to give my concentration for such a long time, and my friends who enrolled for CAT classes spanning 12-15 months told me that , even the faculty dont take classes seriously, till the last 8 months.

I would prefer Crash courses. Are there chances after CAT 2012, crash course of CAT13 shall commence, which would finish classroom lectures in 4-5 months (evening/morning batches), so that i can engross in self-study and mocks only (i mean any coaching class)?

But in IP university(my univ.),,one can get the provisional n final degree even after leaving 15 credits...
1 subject stands for 3 or 4 credits...
So will I be eligible for IIMs if I just take d provisional degree leaving one subject...

I am currently woking in an IT company for 1.8

I gave GRE in 2009 score 1390.GAve cat 2011 got 80%tile but i had call from sibm n scmnrd via snap could not convert though .
Now i have may have an option to join Crisil Cap program but then i will have to go for gmat.
I am confused because i dunno whether i should take risk with crisil cap and then go for gmat or try for cat again this year and also apply for MS in some college but then with a gamble like cat if i dont get into good college(top15 preferably) going for gmat would also be difficult withan IT exp. Because priority for me is to go for a PG actually wanna do Mba and get into finance but i think with my current situation taking any one direction closes doors on others which may leave me with no PG

Both Marketing and Operations are in sync with your career objective of making a mark in Electronics Industry

I personally would not suggest you to leave your job,though if you find that coaching classes are critical to your preparation then you can quit and work with a NGO or a less strenuous job for a while, along with your preparation. As far as the colleges that you can go for are concerned, with 5 years of experience your options are quite limited in India. If you are looking for a marketing profile it may be a little difficult for you to get start off in sales as it is in most cases, as most of the companies prefer freshers or candidates with less work ex.

The top IIMs,ISB,XLRI,FMS,JBIMS are some of the colleges that you should look to target in India. If you appear for GMAT too there are many options abroad that would suit your work ex,provided you have a decent/good profile.

I am not sure why you are thinking of quitting your job for CAT prep.. There is always an option to go for weekend classes..

In case you need to break the bond then also you can show your salary slips to prove your work exp.

Would the salary slips work as experience proof ? And if I show the experience during admission process , then i would have to show the same during the placements, would the salary slips alone suffice then, for the other companies ?

Dear All,
I gave 2011 CAT but just got 78.81 percentile:banghead::banghead: and i already have 4 years of work experience in a Telecom MNC and Also converted SITM and IIFM this year but I didn't joined both so i am very very confused that may i had made a mistake by not joining SITM because so many people are complaining that I have made a big mistake by not joining but i really do not have much interest in Telecom as well as in Forestry.
Some people are saying that next year u will be completing 5 yrs of work experience which will be a negative thing for me and one more thing is CAT is very unpredictable and it can be very Dicey.

No work experience will be uncounted, be it technical or non technical. And most guys hv technical experience only prior to MBA. As you hv quite some time in hand so try working on the following areas: taking up more responsibilities, contributing to company in a meaningful way, doing certifications, participating in extra curriculars etc etc.They will help you in MBA profile building.

By certifications do you mean MBA related (CFA and the likes) or those related to the field I'll be working in my org (options are very less as it is a niche field).

I will suggest to go for electronics Job and prepare for CAT simultaneously. MBA from a good Indian B-School can also take you to electronic industry easily. So, suggest not to focus on 2 things at a time.

However, if you have already taken GRE etc. for MS, you can try applying to few good universities which are known for MS in electronics domain and not to all.

What should I do?
Work there for 1, 2 or 3 years, get admission in a good college, break the bond and join?
Or complete 4 years and do executive MBA? If exec MBA, will the technical work ex be of any use and what are the fields I can pursue?

Breaking the bond would not be a good thing to do, only if you pay the bond money and get experience letter.

I will suggest you to work for 4 yrs, earn a lot of money and experience, prepare in the meantime for GMAT, CAT etc and work a lot on your profile to make it suitable for ISB, IIM A/B/C etc and other coveted Executive MBA programs and then go for an Executive MBA from a reputed school from india/abroad as at 29 yrs of age a 2 yr regular MBA wont help. You have 4 years to enrich yourself for these things.

First of all, you can never justify a gap by saying that you were preparing for CAT. This is a sure-shot reject. Panelists will think that you don't have the ability to multi-task. You can justify it by saying that you were searching for a job and side-by-side doing some certifications to improve your CV, etc.

And for the low 12th score... well you have to be completely honest. I have known people to say that they messed it up by not being serious and fooling around. That they realize their mistake now and have been working hard to succeed in their respective choosen field. Tell them that you hope that they will not judge you from what you have been but from what you are working hard to be.
This kind of answer is honest and will portray you in a very good light earning you some brownie points. Its all about being honest and playing with words to portray your honesty and determination.

So, dont worry much , you are not having any illness that cannot be cured. It is just that you should visit appropiate doctors and try everything possible to get their appointments.

Crack the CAT and XAT and you have a chance of getting calls from IIM C(99.6+), FMS and XL. Maybe even IIM L if you're score is very high(99.8+) and you have some work ex.

No chance with A and B. But having a shot at 4 out of the top 6 is not bad So focus and crack the CAT and XAT. Good Luck

P.S. Your profile may come back to haunt you at the interview stages. But then if you have your answers and justifications in place, you can redeem yourself and get converts.

P.P.S. I had 72% in 12th and 60.04% in grad(though my engg college was very good) and I got IIM C call twice and FMS call once Would have got XL call too if I would have tried XAT. So its all upto how well you can do from now on

This years call list went upto 98.73%ile for FMS, but they had some technical problems with DU because of which they called 1200 general people. If the problem is solved, the cut offs could rise to as high as 99.3%ile.
XL will call you if you have 92%+ with good sectionals.

However both these institutes have stiff gdpi(also extempore for FMS) rounds, and are known to score you down heavily if they dont think you're good, irrespective of your CAT/XAT score.

IIM C had 10% weightage for each of 10th and 12th this year. Your marks will fetch you very low scores here. So if you get really close to 100%ile, you may get a call

I have a very strong urge to take up and succeed CAT 2012. I am working 10-12 hrs a day. This is my first try with CAT.
I'm from OBC category. What would be the percentile I should aim for to get calls from IIMs and other top 20 colleges in India? I'm desperate in getting admitted in any one of these. Could someone guide me? It is a must do for me. Pagalguys help me out.

I would suggest you not to think much on cut offs right now. Just focus on your preparations and try to get as much %ile as you can.

There will be threads opened after few months by which you will be able to know the criteria and cut offs.

Yes, you are thinking in correct direction as per your goal !

After being an MBA, one can always get into electronics industry , with a roles different than that of being an engineer. You can get into marketing, Product Managers as well as Analyst roles for your company in the domain. Seeing your acads, getting calls from top B-Schools should not be a worry as well with good CAT score !

As per the current criteria, I dont think you will get a call from any IIM(old or new), even if you score 100%ile(may get B actually with 100).
You can get calls from FMS and XL with high CAT and XAT scores, but you will have some big time grilling about your acads, which you will have to justify well if you want to have a shot at converting

Nobody can change their past and you have to accept that. Worrying about it right now is not going to help. Just concentrate on getting a good score right now. Not all B-schools look at acads for giving out calls. FMS, XL, IIMC, etc. dont give weightage to acads for giving out calls. There are also other good B-schools like MDI, IITs, NITIE,etc. who give calls based on CAT score.

At your B school, get good grades, join committees and win a few competitions and it will help you offset a part or all of your previous academic misadventures

You can get calls from FMS and XL with high CAT and XAT scores, but you will have some big time grilling about your acads, which you will have to justify well if you want to have a shot at converting

I have 68.6% in 10th, 58% in 12th , 73%in btech. I have faced so many problems during placement season as most of the companies ask for 60% or 65% through out

I just wanted to know do companies also ask for percentage during placement in mba?

I am targeting IIFT, NMINS, IMI D, IMT G, IITs, Fore etc

Well to be honest, you will face problems. Past profiles are important at placements through B schools as well, but at the same time, you have 2 years to try and re-write your fate. At your B school, get good grades, join committees and win a few competitions and it will help you offset a part or all of your previous academic misadventures

My question is that I have a bond with HCL that runs till March 2013. However, in order to prepare well for CAT 2012 , I need to join classes and hence have to leave job, in which case I wouldnt get HCL EXPERIENCE as I would be breaking the bond.

So, provided I manage the CAT cut offs, I will be sitting in GDPI as a 2011 passout with 3 Months of Experience in IBM India( worked there for a while).How would this affect my chances,both as an MBA aspirant as well as in general with my career.

I am not sure why you are thinking of quitting your job for CAT prep.. There is always an option to go for weekend classes..

In case you need to break the bond then also you can show your salary slips to prove your work exp.

Crack the CAT and XAT and you have a chance of getting calls from IIM C(99.6+), FMS and XL. Maybe even IIM L if you're score is very high(99.8+) and you have some work ex.

No chance with A and B. But having a shot at 4 out of the top 6 is not bad So focus and crack the CAT and XAT. Good Luck

P.S. Your profile may come back to haunt you at the interview stages. But then if you have your answers and justifications in place, you can redeem yourself and get converts.

P.P.S. I had 72% in 12th and 60.04% in grad(though my engg college was very good) and I got IIM C call twice and FMS call once Would have got XL call too if I would have tried XAT. So its all upto how well you can do from now on

XAT 12 - 98.8 %ile (did not apply to XLRI or XIMB or GIM)
MH-CET 12 - 99.77 %ile

Got calls from new IIMs but could not convert due to weak profile. If I repeat CAT and score 99.5+, even then my weak profile will pull me down (except for IIM-C). My long term aim is to pursue FPM from an IIM or XLRI. Currently I can get into PUMBA (MBA++) with my CET score. PUMBA is definitely not on par with TIER-1 B-schools.
Should I repeat or go to PUMBA? Please guide me.

I am new to this site and this is my first post. Have few doubts which I am hopeful I will be able to get them cleared through this forum. Have completed my graduation way back in 2003 and since then have been working as transcriptionist. I am planning to do mba in 2013 (preferably regular program, not distance) by writing various entrance exams like CAT..etc. My doubt is, is it worth enough for me to do something like this at this age of 29 and do 2-year full time college education (by the way, my grades in X, XII, and degree are between 65% to 70%) and what are my chances of getting into top colleges given my academic performance and experience, and also is it preferable for me to get executive program rather than 2-year full-time program.

I'm sorry. I'm a bit new to this. But I didn't really get this part. You got such a high percentile in XAT, but you hadn't applied for XLRI?
Isn't XLRI like a Cluster A b-school and better than a lot of IIMs. Sorry, if I sound naive.

I'm a new member here and this is my first post so please pardon me if I have posted my query in the wrong section.

So I'm a 2012 CSE fresher and I graduated from an engineering college from my city(Visakhapatnam) which is not so great.
I haven't got placed yet and since it is June already I'm not quite sure if there is any scope of getting placed until next year.
I am not able to decide among the following so please help me out.
Before that
Xth:83%(ICSE)
XIIth:84%(CBSE)
Engg:60%(JNTUK affiliated college)

Basically I ruined my engineering and didn't study well and stuff and to worsen things up my college didn't have any placements.
So now should I
1. Join a course like Java or something and wait for off campus placement drives to be held in September( Not sure if they will be held again this year. If someone knows anything about it please feel free to help).
2. Not wait for placements and not waste money on courses and join a MBA training institute(TIME) instead.
3. Join some BPO, make some money, prepare for MBA parallelly?

I'm in a ****ed up state right now and I'm starting to feel worthless. :(
Please guide me people.

Looking at ur CAT/CET 11 score i feel u deserve a better college..

Buddy, i wud suggest to continue with your current job & Studies...

Profile will not be that big a issue for colleges like FMS/Symbiosis/NM/JB/MDI/IMT/TAPMI/Great Lakes & others...

( please rule out IIM's & IIT's & may be NITIE as most of them need 60% agg in Engg)

though myself a victim of medicore profile... but saw many freinds with this sort of profile getting in to top 20 colleges.

PS:my personal opinion, u may take a informed call.

See, most of the colleges give high importance to 10th and 12th marks and you have decent marks in both. So, need not worry a lot.

Very few consider grad marks as well, so you should not bother much about them. Not getting into those very few doesnt stop anyone from doing well in career in long run! :thumbsup:

Will suggest not to join BPO and prepare in parallel.

Instead, i will suggest to join coaching to prepare for CAT and other MBA entrances. Simultaneously, keep a track of off campus drives and apply to them as and when they happen. Rest assures, atleast IT industry is going to have it for sure No need to join any course and spend money on them.

Rather, till off campus happens, focus on preparation well, score high and you have all the chances of getting calls from good colleges.
