Firstly I am 22 years old and I am currently working in a MNC, but I have realized that what I really want to do is to teach.
I currently stay in Bangalore, India.
I want to take up MA course in English and Communication.
But once I commit to that, will I restrict myself to just teaching? (which I have no problem with)
What is the scope ? How will the career be ? Is it well paying?
Just want to clear all these doubts before I take the next step
Thanks a lot
You would like to teach what? Teach in schools? Teach in a PG program like MBA? Teach in UG? Also, it would be helpful if you give your background?
MA in English and Communication obviously has a lot of scope. If you want to teach in schools, this will suffice. You may have to take up a B.Ed. course after your MA.
If you want to teach in colleges (UG or PG), again there are additional requirements like NET/SLET. If this is the case, I would suggest that once you complete your MA, do start teaching and parallely, do a PhD (from HSS dept of an IIT) The career prospects will be immense.
About the scope, ya, it will be pretty much in academics, maybe few other fields.
Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me the long term scope of an analytics career? In terms of skill set needed, career progression, which are the companies that hire for such roles and of course factors like avg work hours and salary.
From what I have heard, it involves using massive amounts of data to draw patterns using mathematics and statistics which in turn will help in taking business decisions.
Since there are B Schools which ask for specialization even before getting in, which specialization should one target if he/she intends to get into analytics?
Thanks.
Career in analytics is extremely rewarding because there is a shortage of such people. Typically, you would need a quant based post grad degree (like eco, math stat etc), training in SAS or other analytics software and a talent for data crunching). MBAs and B.Tech.s from premiere institutes also get into this field.
If you want to do an MBA, you can take up quant based specializations like fin and operations.
Hello....I am appearing for CAT'11 its second time at CAT for me....But i am not confident...Now my mind is diverting to GMAT..
and i also feel i wont be able to manage good score in CAT after work-ex..(Passes B.tech in 2011)
Friends please help me, What should I do??
As you are a fresher, CAT would definitely make more sense. You can take the GMAT and apply at colleges like SP Jain, GLIM, ISB(after a couple of years) etc. But, CAT definitely has more scope for you
A word of caution though. As someone who has taken both CAT and GMAT, I can say that both are completely different exams and require different strategies. Once you are done with CAT, take at least 1.5 months preparation for GMAT by taking practice tests and only then attempt GMAT.
Also, even though the GMAT score is valid for 5 years, schools generally prefer recent scores (<3 years).
