@guddulovesgudia Yes definitely. If you can get into corporate finance or equity research roles and perform well in that job, then definitely you have a shot at an I bank. But do the following:
1. Get into a job which gives you good exposure to finance. Take up additional responsibilities. Tru...

@ashmole2009 : i completely understand your point ... thnk u sooo much !!!
Honestly an MBA from SIIB is not worth it. You need a brand name to get into FO. An MBA or MSF will serve that purpose abroad. Just look at the raw numbers of people getting into FO IB in India and abroad.
@ashmole2009 so you feel a ms in finance (ivy league or so )is a much better option the mba finance (from colleges like i mentioned) to get into i banking sector
Much better option. Whilst International students find it tougher to get jobs abroad, statistically you are more likely to get a FO job in the UK/US than in India due to number of FO jobs and barrier to entry, India being far more selective due to the population of nerds + smaller finance indust...

@ashmole2009 : how about getting a masters n finance from an ivy league college ???
sir then how does a person go about building corporate networks considering i dont have much of family connections
Goldmans would not recruit for ER and Corporate Treasury from SIIB, even if their placement report says so. If a student has got into this area from SIIB before, I can bet it was through contacts/networking. If IB is your aim, I would not go to SIIB. You are much, much better off retaking the ...
@ashmole2009 : May be as an analyst or an associate after some relevant work ex and den probably can move up ..
i am a chemical engineer who worked in a precious metal refinery in iindia..i left my job and appeared for the CAT but did nt happen to land up a good percentile.. thru snap i mght get SIIB ,Pune which has Goldman Sacchs recruiting from its campus for i guess equity research or corporate treasury...

Definitely not. You might be able to get a support job in a big (investment) bank though.
@Jamiroquai : can u tell me if colleges like siib , pune help u enter banking jobs in a boutique firm

@freesurfer Are you an engineer? From any premier college? If yes to both then you have a heads up. Financial risk management is nascent in India and is mostly dominated by engineers from premier colleges due to its quant intensive syllabus. If you have not MBA try getting into a good B school. If ...
@harrypotter24 That is an excellent analysis. One question- I am very much interested in pursuing PRM/FRM and go in for a Financial Risk Management role, along with an MBA. How far will PRM/FRM will help me succeed in the financial world? I know that Financial Risk Management is getting more impo...
A post dedicated to Puys wanting to know more about CFA and also about entering the finance industry, specific to India alone. Also when i refer to MBA it pertains only to the top 20 institutes alone. The bitter truth for most of us is that CA and MBA are the only two avenues to succeed in the fin...

You need to show quantitative aptitude (through completing the FRM/PRM or work experience/undergraduate major) and that you are smart (shown through going to a top business school). I suppose a solid Masters in FE will show you are smart and have quantitative aptitude.
@ashmole2009 Thanks a lot!! Another question ( one begets another!!) Do you think a MBA+FRM/PRM with strong quantitative/modelling background has a chance of breaking into this career path, or is a Masters in Fin. Engineering a must?
A career in risk is almost as prestigious as a career in Front Office post crisis. The Risk guys are as smart as Front Office guys minus the social skills. You can move into restructuring or just move up the ladder to become a CRO. Analytical skills developed are transferable into any sort o...
Maybe at A every now and then None of the others are THAT bad.
I know that it is not directly related to IBanking, but most big banks ( including IBanks ) have a very robust Risk Management division. Can anyone shed some light on the career life and path in that division? What are the chances of moving up in the bank via the Risk division?

You just have to drink a lot of Red Bull, and look forward to the weekends. You only do these 100 hour weeks for the first few years of your career and you only do this in IBD. Not being rude, but are you aiming for IBD in India from a 2nd tier college? Even most IIM A grads struggle to get into ...
Yes they do.
But I want to learn how do they do it??
Oh btw I've been only into some 2nd-3rd tier colleges in my life, and will be doing from MBA from such college too ... so work pressure is never so much so as to pull off a 100hrs week work. I hope I am making myself clear I just want...

Don't MBA students at top b-schools in India work 100 hours+ a week?
and am planning to go back into this industry in the US. So I thought I'd open up this thread to answer questions you may have about what investment banking is all about in India and abroad.

I just want to know how can I do it too ? because it seems so impossible to me...I've been in a job of 60hrs a week and I was on the limit of my work capabilty
...So I want to know ---"how do i increase my working capability"---
