Don't ever feel like this brother.Even i felt this at one point of time but then i thought what would happen to my parents who have sacrificed their lives in order to bring me up to this level so that i can atleast have that courage to stand and fight against all odds. I know sometimes taking life becomes the easiest way to get rid of all problems but they can never solve your problems. Instead it will ruins your parents and your family's lives who have done a lot for you and instead never expected anything in return......so please erase all thoughts like that and just live happily facing all odds with courage and conviction..... i know its easy to say then implement but will power and love from your family can make you achieve great heights.....:)

Friends....cat result has make me feel i am the most useless person in this world...my position is same as many of u...the only thread remains is this where i can visit.i passout of 2009 still unemployed make me feel i am of no use....i will always always and always remember this season of my life..a year of failure and failure and failure...(iift,fms,jmet,xat,cat) and this list will complete with cet result....i am a book of failure...feeling to write all useless words for me..i am a waste person..puri tarah barbad ho gaya hu...
I am only bit happy because i encountered failure early in my life and hope it will make me strong in all sense...after all these shock i have forget now how to cry??not even one drop in my eyes after seeing the cat result..

I can understand how you feel because even i have gone through same phase. I can understand your agony and pain and so as others too who are on the same boat as you.I saw your post and just thought to share some thoughts of mine.
I am 2006 batch passout and i am revolving around this CAT thing from the past 4 years. My first attempt was in 2005 where i scored around 55 %tile
Was not serious that time. Just thought of giving it because others were giving too.I was already placed by that time. That was one among the reason for my callous attitude :-(
Also i fallen in love with one girl who was my classmate. I was fantasizing as it happens that time that she also likes me because we were very good friends. But in reality she didn't had those feelings for me and when i proposed her in the final year, she rejected me instantaneously:banghead:
Was very disturbed during that period. Used to cry a lot thinking that why it happened to me but didn't got any answer. Then i joined the company and by sheer coincidence or bad luck whatever you call, she also got placed into same company.I was cursing myself at that point that what made god to do all this. I wanted to forget her but i was seeing her everytime in front of my eyes. That was the most difficult phase i was going through. We used to talk but not in the same way as before. Then one day i came to know that her marriage was fixed and i decided not to talk to her after that.Don't know what made me do that.
Then seriously gave thought for CAT once again and start preparing for the same. Was very serious about clearing that time because of my parents who had lot of expectations with me.Gave CAT 2006 Result:75%lile:banghead:
Was very depressed because in that paper i think Quant and DI were easy and Verbal was tough.
Again i decided to give CAT next year.Result same: CAT 2007: 78%lile. I also gave other exams like XAT,SNAP,IIFT,NMAT but got rejected everywhere except in NMAT where i got 85 marks which was the cut off by coincidence. But as you say so near yet so far. It didn't had any significance because weightage to return is of utmost importance in NMAT.So i knew i won't be finally selected if i do well in GD/PI but then too i just went to GD/PI in order to experience and I think it was one of the most beautiful experiences i had there. The way those people organised GD/PI was commendable and i was feeling inferior compared to guys who came there scoring great marks and with lot of confidence.But the experience was fruitful. Ultimately end result: Rejected:banghead::banghead::banghead:
My frustation was going out of my hands during this time.
Again thought i will keep giving CAT until and unless i don't bell it. Everyone was saying don't give now because you won't get it including my parents but still i had the hope and conviction to bell it.By that time my office location was also changed and i didn't had to face that girl again :grin:
So this time i thought i would bell it no matter what happens and was seriously into it. Gave my heart and soul into it. I forgot everything about my office and i never took my work seriously and hence my promotion chances got hampered but thought do hell with it because my goal is something else.Gave CAT 2008: Result: 86%tile. Same with all other exams everywhere got rejected.
Was feeling dejected and hopeless.Thought i am of no use to anyone. Sincerely thought of running away somewhere but didn't get any place to go to.Then again same old story: frustration,depression,disappointment because of failure,failure and only failure everywhere.
My work life also got impacted because of that as i was getting released from the project wherever i went because of my poor performance.My WFM manager once told me that if you don't get into this project you will be terminated or sent to chennai... blah blah....
I somehow got into 1 project and seriously thought of writing CAT may be for the last time.I somehow convinced my parents and started preparing for it again. This time i joined coaching, all test series TIME,IMS and started working in group study along with 2 of my friends who were also serious abut CAT. Meanwhile i fall into love with another girl in my office. I don't know what happened to me but i just went and proposed to her again for 2nd time in my life:w00t: Kya karein kabhi kabhaar kuch cheezo par apna bhi zor nahi chalta .....:banghead::banghead:She was shocked and rejected me then and there itself. I thought that i have committed a lot of sins in my past life for which i am suffering in this birth. Then just forgot and again targeted on CAT 2009 with full flow.....
Used to come from office at 8 PM amd devoted atleast 2 hours daily with my friends. Then came news CAT ONLINE. I was shocked and devastated.
Still found some courage and went for it. Gave online AIMCATs TIME and others. Used to score from 30%tile to 90%tile.Was very confident this time of CAT because prep was upto the mark.I also took leave for around 2 months giving the not feeling well as the reason. Thought no matter what this time i have to clear it.
Results: CAT 2009: 70 %tile (QA:94 DI: 77 VA: 20 %tile ) Felt like dying when i saw the result. Was laughing after some time like a mad fellow.
Never thought i am so bad at verbal though i am not that good also. Used to score around 70 - 80 in mocks.Felt like world crashing at my feet.
Other exams also :
IIFT: 35.94 (Rejected)
JMET: 57 (Rejected)
SNAP: 79.5 (Rejected)
XAT: 68 %tile (Rejected)
FMS: 280 (Rejected)

Everywhere failed: felt like cursing myself
Now i am at my same work place in same company thinking what went wrong. I never cleared any competitive exams like IIT, AIEEE and all management exams and 10th and 12th were also bad. Everytime i had mediocre performances and nothing to boast for.But still i am trying to get rid of it.I don't know whether i will give CAT again after this fiasco but still i have something to feel good that i kept trying even after facing so many adversities. I know i have failed everytime i tried but it also shows i have lot of patience and courage to face it and try it every time.
I just want to say to you that don't lose hope. I know that it doesn't sound good from my mouth but still i know people who have achieved success in spite of facing so many failures. They have shown to the world what they are capable of and people have acknowledged them also. So life is going to be tough and there will be struggles but we have to keep moving.
As they say "Lehron ke saath to koi bhi ter sakta hai par asli insaan to wohi hai jo lehron ko cheer kar aage badta hai"

there are so many broken hearts and demented souls around that i feel lucky..the most imp thing is that cat or any other exam doesnt make or break u..its just a obstacle in life..either u pass it or u get around it..u dont need to trip and fall and then keep on thinking abt ur past failures..
always remember that what u are is a result because of ur past actions..
guys who are 21-22 who gave cat first tym and then failed are talkin abt suicide..:( cmon guys such kinda thinking wont let u go anywhere...if anything it wd make u even sader ..this is what s called as learned helplessness in psychology...u have all ur future ahead..go n find a job and give it next year with full zeal widot repeating ur misstakes..
one post i was reading in this thread that motivated me to write in this..when ppl are trying to come out with such travails then surely ppl who have this as their first failure can learn somthing..acha i will tell my story now..i am 2007 batch passout.. actually had a terrible relationship which really taught me everything..was a gud student ..had 70% in engg, 95 % in class X,,in col had a breakup in final year..anyways gave CAT - got 75% with -5 (yes -ve):oops: in maths..then i didnt join my company as i cdnt think what to do after all this, in 2008 i again gave cat with full prep but everytym i used to think of this girl even in the exam and so got 84 % only in CAT 2008..with -4 in DI:oops: ...NMIMS , SIIB called cdnt convert..i always used to think that WTF happens in exam..
so i dcd to forget abt my gf and concentrate once again..joined a stupid company in pune.. again started prep..but to my horror cd never forget her and so again gave CAT ...this tym thankfully -ve marks nahi aaye in any section..but still only 91 %..again got a call from only SIIB..waitlised..n xat 98% somehow..but i know gim will reject me..
but at least what i have realized is that one shdnt get overawed at all by emtions...as someone said shit happens, so this too shall pass..i will again give cat next year cz one sshould look at long term gains rather than short cuts..u bargain for ur dream and then u keep on cryin inside day by day...so puys, dont feel sad..its only a game of courage attitude and detemination..and victory to those who believe in them..are u at it??

Look clear cat with job because clearing cat without job creates a bad impression that you cant do multi tasking. My advice - dont leave your job and also whatever your grave problems are, you should solve those. Leave the current job only if you have some other job in hand. Dont prepare for cat without job.

Don't be depressed. You can pursue your SIBM-p or any other college where you can get a seat because thats what you have in your hand right now. Research about the college which you are joining and see how the teaching is and how are the placements. Dont think of return of investment right now though it is a point of concern but this problem is faced by all who are going for mba. So follow the herd mentality in this case. If you are preparing for next year cat without job and if you dont make it then you will get screwed up. So dont prepare for neext year cat without job. And if you take your cognizant job and then prepare then may be you wont get enough time to prepare for mba and again there are chances that you may not do well. But in this case then next year you can prepare for various other exams and will make it to some college (maybe iim if its your destiny) and you will have a better profile i.e work-ex which counts. I would suggest that go to mba this year itself if you get it because after with working there are several issues in life which you have to deal.

Crisp and simple: Go for SIBM....no point getting back to the job you dislike and if it's the returns you are apprehensive of then i must say returns from a college like SIBM are always good provided you channelise your efforts in the right direction for the next two years. Be confident of yourself and make a smart move .

look brother from what ui can make out from ur story is tat this time u hardly prepared!! and lemme tell u if atts the case u hv done good!!! 93 %le in XAT cabn give u decent colls already!! if u wanna take another shot pls work n carry wid studies!! too advantages:- first u will be financially independent!!! tat will amke dad proud and shut all those ppl's mouth ho are disparagin u!!

well dude about calls through xat....i have dont have anythning till now cause i didnt apply for gim(cud have got a call)....liba (had 66.6 in lr n sadly cut off 67)...ya thats what work ex..thats why i think i should work..well yes i dint prepared much...so want to give my heart and soul this year..after this kj somaiya scene clears off in another few days...but just being afraid what if i get bad scores then these...but still am queit confi about snap atleast that i would get sibm or scmhrd next year if not iims....
lets c and actually its of no use being disheartened...better start with a new beginning and get what we deserve....

then decided to be a doctor so took medical..that was the worst decision in my life....got 78% in 12th in 2007..gave my heart and soul for prep for medical exams but failed in all medical exams by not much..was getting ranks in 2000 or 3000 in almost every exam so doomed..
if i would have prepared for engineering then i could have been in much better state ..
now had no other option so joined hotel management college in bangalore as i was in no mood to sit at home and study for an year..had so much fun...parties, night outs, clubbing, girls thats all i did for 2 years
when i was in 3rd year i mean this year only decided to appear for cat so joined time over here in bangalore..but again a set back..my dad had spent about 5 lakhs on my graduation...now i am having a job as a management trainee in dominoz...prepared to join in coming june after my final exams in may...
2009 scores....cat 90.15, xat 93.3, snap 87, mat 94.4, iift 29.6, irma 119(gk 21)
its really a set back that i have been letting down my fathers expectations throughout my life...and even few of my uncles have lots to say about me to him that i cant be successful in life..
but now i want to show them and proof this to everyone that i am much better than what my results tell...
i just want to take advice from you people that should i join work and then prepare for next years cat or should i sit at home and prepare..
people are telling that it is very difficult to prepare while working..
but i am quiet confident that i would do...

hi guys.........this is really d best thread in pg bcz all threads are concerning for clg discussion. but dis thread is concerning the motivation of students. well my story is as follows:-

#was financially very weak in my childhood...still my father admited me in a big private school costing 1000rs/month.i studied there till 10th. i was an average student securing 74% in 10th.

#gradually more financial problem arosed nd i got shifted to a govt. skul. i was very depresed at dat time while adjusting. scored 70% in 12th.

# got admited in a very reputed clg of delhi university in science stream.

#made girlfriend in 1st year. scored preety bad in graduation 54%. did everything their drinking, awaragardi everything.

#nd dis graduation marks kept me no options for post graduation like msc or bank exams.all need abv 60. atleast 55.

# goes for mba preperation worked hard for 6 months.

#nd result was
CAT-63%le
MAT-97%le
SNAP-62 marks
XAT-48%le

#got shocked wid my embarassing performance. finally applied through my MAT score. then i came to know my major problem, dat is gd/pi. its really difficult for me to utter a single word in front of 8-9 members.

# didnt qualified some 2-3 major MAT colleges. now no more option. really dishearted. can't apply for d job with such a sh##t marks of graduation.

# dont have a big money for donation or management quota.
ya life is tough,but didn't realise earlier during graduation!

see dear u will get a call from al of them and even IMT G(though its a borderline case.. )
IMI N IMTG are the top b schools n if u r able to convert them its well n fine...

since u r still 19 so if u want u can give a another try....it depends on u that will u be able to perform better than this or not...if YES then give another shot....:cheerio:

since u have a gud %le u will get a call from top b schools(depends u had applied or not coz now i dnt think forms r still available)...

hey its good that u got into Infy! congrats for that..the training is very rigorous and u wont be able to study during ur trng(6 mnths at least)...after the trng u will be put on a practise unit and depending on project pressure u will have to adjust ur study schedule.. i am from infy myself and i have seen ppl have craked the CAT amidst a lot of adversity at workplace ..i also have a frnd in bangalore who took a sabbatical leave of 6 months to prep for CAT but could not do anything effective.. c its all a mind game..u have to come with a strong reason during your PI if asked about tanking a job for a full one year..remember Work ex matters and more if it is from Infy..rest is ur descision dude...:|

Dude, Honest advice!

You have scored well this year. If you can affors to wait one year then give one more shot and this time give it in big way. I am sure you will make this time. And this one year work somewhere , This will help you built up profile and you will have learning too before joining MBA. I would say you are young enough to give yourself one more chance.

You are not the first one raise this concern, so i can understand where you are coming from.

Well, in my opinion, its not a good idea to only prepare for cat and do nothing else, i am sure you will agree that CAT is an aptitude test and not a mugging test, its more of a test of your acquired knowledge then, you sitting down with a Time/CL.. or any other test book and solving answers for 7-8 months without doing anything else.

Trust me CAT doesn't require more than couple of hours of regular study, if you hve 5-6 months with you.

My Sincere advice will be get yourself involved in something more than just cat, there is so much more to life than just one exam.

explore yourselves, what are you good at, keep your options open.

Don't Make CAT your life, otherwise it would be too much pressure to handle.

better it is good for you to join infy.Because the training in infy will help you a lot for the verbal.Plus it will be the added advantage for work experience.Do 2 hours work daily for other section thats enough. all the best

so dont be negative about CAT...

CAT can only be cracked with a POSITIVE approach...

If you have a call, that means they are interested in you. You just need to present your profile in a proper manner. GD/PI is about confidence and how you carry yourself. Work on that.

Some IIMs give weightage to acads but not all. Your profile is good enough to get you calls from 3-4 IIM calls provided you perform well in CAT.

First of all please do a SWOT analysis of your self, introspect on your capabilities, be practical! If you think that you can crack cat or you have an aim of getting so and so percentile then you should definitely try. Meanwhile get into a job. apply thru job consultants. As you are a fresher you may have to go thru some skill training first in order to get into a company. You can discuss this out with the job consultants. Another way is (if you are really good at carrying out a good conversation) to get the HR no. of a particular company and talk to him directly and express your wish to work with the company. If they are interested then they might ask you to forward your resume, this way things might work out. So dont lose hope and keep trying:)

P.S: Remember Networking plays a pivotal role in getting a job so start building contacts and offers will follow you.:)

I am a B.Tech graduate(200 and was placed in a reputed company.All of my friends those who were placed in the company got their joining in the first few months,xcept me.IN the mean while i started preparing for the PSU's xam and adding salt to my woes i missed cutoff's by just 1-2 marks.AFter that i got serious and seriously started preparing for the cat devoting around 5-6 hours a day.And the hardwork of mine paid in the mocks ,was consistentaly scoring above 90.After attempting 56 ques in cat i was confident of securing above 90.BUt when the result came out it was a shock to me i secured only 73%ile(last year i had secured 86%ile without any prep) and worst was that the section in which i was strongest that is va(cleared all the cutooffs of va in mocks) i had secured ony 20%ile.I have lost faith in CAT this time.I am really very disappointed as i have wasted my 2 years,mean while the long awaited call from the company has come and they want me 2 join,but i have no interest in IT, but have to join it.I am not losing any hopes , yes this year it was a failure,but u only learn from your failures and i am determined that next year cat will be belled.
PS-to all the freshers please try to engage in some kind of work(join ngo or some other kind of work) coz i am passing through this phase (2 years wasted) and seriously it haunts me,i feel dejected.

yeah......M myself a B.tech from IIT Kanpur....I have enquired about almost similar issue from my seniors currently pursuing MBA...and they all have 2 say dat is just the name of company u r working for....no one is really bothered about wat kind of work you are really into.....So I will suggest if you are not able to focus on your studies here in Bangalore( which is quite understandable) I will rather say..u move to Gurgaon...u will get to stay at your place with your family...Will have a mental peace and surely you will be able to prepare nicely ( I have taken almost similar step recently...Made a switch over top international design firm to join a smaller firm in Delhi as I wanna prepare myself...

There are people who have taken cat 09 seriously and screwed it big time. you should stop poundering over ur past and start all over again. Get a job and keep trying. Dont lose heart. I am a '07 comp engg grad. I was interested in IIT but couldn't get thru......but ther r a million such Rinkeshs....
I hv 25 month of IT experience...This is my 5th attempt at CAT (including one in 3rd yr, it was allowed then)....this is the third time i hv scored around 90%ile (90.35/89.97/90.95)

It's better to fail then not to try......failure teaches us a lot...sounds gyan.....but that's the way it is......

I also left my job in Sept to prepare for CAT...& presently on a 3 month internship with Teach For India :cheerio:
Now looking for an IT job.....i am sure we will get one......i don't want to do it but hv to......who does technical stuff in IT? It's all business most of the time....
Anyways....i wud suggest target small companies they always...hv requirement....once u get a job der....switch to a good company in 6 months...

I feel that somehow i get overawed by situations , i suck at quants despite being an engineer , this year just got 41 percentile in it , dont know what to do . My friends are earning and i am here running from pillar to post for a job getting rejected , cat wasnt my target this year but was expecting a dcent score a 61 percentile overall this is not even face saving , i can't face my parents , havent told them the exact score .

I just feels like IIT fiasco once again ...

Thinking of just quiting my cat plan's forever because i don' t think i will be able to improve till i learn to sustain pressure , should i quit on MBA dream's and look elsewhere ?

I dont know what to do ahead .....

Firstly I am in the same situation you are in. ( BE2009 Passout) and even i flunked in CAT. But let me tell you what you shouldn't do at this time.
Do not look at your friends who are earning and feel sorry for yourself. I know how it feels but then we tend to make it a huge issue which it isn't.
As you say you are expecting a call from the company you got selected for,so wait for it. Have some experience under your belt.
Then about your CAT dream just ask yourself whether you have it in you for cracking it. Whether you believe you can do it?? If you believe you can do it you certainly can. Do not get over awed by situations. Accept every situation as it is and take intelligent action.
Believe me some years down the line you would say the situation which you are in now is so stupid. It will surely happen. So as of now do some introspection and celebrate Holi. Stop feeling sorry for yourself.

well im a 2008 pass out from an engineering college, in which i was not at all interested, was forced into it due to my parental pressure and before that i was forced to choose science stream..
through all these four years i believed that im not at all good at technical stuff so never tried to apply my brains into it..
somehow i manged to pass the exams and get a placement...
attempted for cat 2007..
got 70%ile...( with little bit of prepration)

attempted for cat 2008
got 87%ile..(w/o any prepration)
i worked in an mnc for 14 months with lot of enthu in initial months but over the time i realised i can hang onto it further, wanted to pursue my dream of doing mba... so i resigned, in the course of resignation some of my friends discouraged, u think u r not good in technical skills? but r u good in managerial skill? u r not good in that too... u r so soft spoken, u r so submissive, u r earning so well over here and blah blah.. but still i resigned...

i also applied for teach for india, coz of my society inclination but could not get thru till the final stage

now my serious advice is don't leave everything for cat, u should always have a back up plan


im feeling good while sharing all this stuff...

Oye chill maar yaar, I know its hard to get over it and how do you feel, but then you have give all this up and start moving in your life, how old are you not ever 26 I believe. There you have so many years ahead in your life, and it seems that you have lost it all. Just look at yourself and realize your full potential. Nothing is there in cigarettes Sleeping Pill Alcohol, these are things which everyone thinks that will get them out off all this, but then it does not work mate, you get peace for few hours and then again you start reeling back .. Ill give you an advice, go take a good break, take a vacation head off to some good place , relax and think what you want to do in your life ahead, get more FOCUS.. And then as in jab we met "Uski Photo Jalao aur flush kardo".. And be relieved, sh!@ the Sh$T out of your body and look life as you ahve never lived it and you want to start over again , MBA Job whatever get focused and adamant and just do whatever you want to do for yourself ..

Hello puys... i graduated from coll in year 2009.. then did 6 months of study sitting at home, watching my other friends working for gr8 companies and some of them in good b-schools, with a hope to get decent scores this time at least (my grad also pretty much sucked).. And nw when most of the results are declared.. turns out that for me they are worse than garbage... got a call from ICFAI.. bt the reputation is virtually nothing... moreover, when i see my juniors and other people in my TIME class, i ask a question to this universe... do they even deserve to get calls... they perform well in exams.. they study just around 2 hrs. per day... they take these papers very lightly... and yet they taste the success and i can't do anything but just congratulate them and again come back to my room with bags of frustration and blown self respect... what should i do.. please help me..

I am asking becoz i am still unemployed having be-75 and friends with too low % r earining and that makes me feel that my decision to go for cat was wrong.
The only one thing i am sure about is that some have success in early part of life and some get little late. But some times when ur all efforts of one year goes in vain then it hurts too much that too just after completing graduation.

I am pretty in the same boat as you guys.I am a 2009 passout with no job in hand and no calls even though I prepared hard for cat 2009.But there is no need to feel dejected.You people have got time in your hand(you would be 21-22 years old probably).Most important thing is don't let your motivation fall.Find a job and bell the cat next year.If you ask any expert he will tell u that mba should be done after 2-3 yesrs of experience.And second most important thing....don't compare yourself with your friends.you are unique in your own way...learn from the mistakes u commited this year and only focus on your dream institutes....hope this helps

Hello puys... i graduated from coll in year 2009.. then did 6 months of study sitting at home, watching my other friends working for gr8 companies and some of them in good b-schools, with a hope to get decent scores this time at least (my grad also pretty much sucked).. And nw when most of the results are declared.. turns out that for me they are worse than garbage... got a call from ICFAI.. bt the reputation is virtually nothing... moreover, when i see my juniors and other people in my TIME class, i ask a question to this universe... do they even deserve to get calls... they perform well in exams.. they study just around 2 hrs. per day... they take these papers very lightly... and yet they taste the success and i can't do anything but just congratulate them and again come back to my room with bags of frustration and blown self respect... what should i do.. please help me..

Start Expecting less from urself. Its not possible or feasible to happen all nice things in the world to you only. About others performing well, CAT is an aptitude test. Its not about "How many hrs one studies" but "What aptitude one has". Ofcorz, Studying is important, but its not the only thing required.
Compete with yourself rather than with others. Try to better ur performance. You have also mentioned about bad academics. Now you know the reasons of not getting the calls.
Frustration comes only when one expects a lot from himself. Dont Expect much. And be honest to urself.
