i m BE 2009 pass out from not so good engineering college in gujarat.i have pathetic score of 59.6% in BE(i will never forget this 0.4% in my life). in X it is 89 % and in xii it is 69.xx %. due to recession and such a score i coudnt placed through campus.

i wanted my career to be back on track so i decided to give cat and do mba from one of the best institutes in india. but you know what cat is . got mere 90 %ile . coudnt convert any of the calls because of such a poor profile and low %ile.

i came to bangalore to find a job. its a month now and still dont have a job.now what should i do ?

should i waste time here in finding job?
should i concentrate in cat prep?
should i take BPO job?
should i make my profile stronger before giving cat again?

please tell me what you will do in this situation

so should i continue preperation for mba or drop it .

I know what r u going through as even i have gone through similar situations in my life.Though i had decent average in my BE, i could't do well in CAT for the past 4 years whenever i gave it.Each time i had to face the failure of not clearing the CAT as well as other MBA exams. See the thing is that life is never easy. It keeps on throwing u challenges and u need to face them in order to survive.At times u tend to get demotivated, but u should never lose heart and keep trying despite failures. For negating depression and frustation, u can always give time to ur hobbies as well so that u feel good.

Regarding prep for ur CAT: you can refer the mocks of AIMCATS, CL's for practice and also give them and analyse after each and every mock where u have gone wrong and also refer to the material provided in the PG especially PG Prep which will help u immensely.

Do not give up hope..take a look at my story : CAT 2007 : 95.4, CAT 2008 : 94.2 , CAT 2009 : 99.8
The length of the journey is different for everyone. Since you don't know the length destiny has set for you, and you haven't been travelling for too long, you must not give up. Only then can you make it. Good luck.

You have a decent profile, secondly you are working in manufacturing sector, which is very good, sitck to, it and get gopog marks in cAT, dnt think too much, you will get IIM calls if you get good socre in exam

As u said u dnt have job in ur hand now, so its better to join DSE. Its very descent instt. U will really land with gud job..
If u r joining job with avg. Package of 4-5lakh/annum then continue with ur job and try 4 CAT! IF DONT THEN GO WITH DSE. An mba degree will really enhance ur job package..

Seeing you xat percentile , i feel that you can improve and probably, score much better ...and get into a better b-school than what you are getting now.

I suggest to go for infosys and give another attempt to CAT & XAT .

I came to know few days ago that my new neighbor who lives just a floor below mine, has done SAP from Siemens so, I am waiting for the right time to go have a chat with him in this regard. I will definitely talk to someone at Siemens although I did call there once & the lady told me that they do not arrange for interviews. I will look into it as soon as possible. Thanx anyways for ur advice. If someone else has anything to say to me, pls let me know.

As far as SAP-ABAP is concerned, it is in demand in industry . But, most of the vacancies which are opened these days for ABAP Developers are mailnly for peopel who have work ex of more tahn 2 years in SAP-ABAP Domain.

I was in SAP-ABAP unit for aroud 9 months of a major IT company and many of my friends are still in same. They are facing problems in switching job because of same reason . Also , ABAP is quite a wide area. There are things in which people specialize during projects like few in Smart Forms, few in report programming, dialog programming, SAP Scripts, etc etc.

Before joining the course, please ensure from respective institute about the prospective employers with whom you can start off your career. Because, getting a job as a fresher in SAP-ABAP is not that easy. Overall, having knowledge of SAP-ABAP is a plus point and can give your career a good platform as there is lot of demand of ABAPers in industry.

I would suggest to go for it but after enquiring prospects of first job as an ABAPer. Once you have experience of 2 years in same, you will have many opportunities in industry welcoming you.

I need a career advice which has nothing to do with MBA & I didnt know where to post. Anyways, I am a B.Tech (IT) 2009 passout from a reputed government-affiliated college. I got placed in a a pathetic company which was offering a very low stipend to the trainees. For the past 11 months, I haven't been able to find any other company in Delhi-NCR area to switch to.

For the 1st 4 months, we underwent our training. Then I got placed in a development project for 3 months & after that in December last year, I was moved to another project under that same project manager. This 2nd project did not benefit me at all because there was no brainwork required & the tool used will not benefit me at all in my career in the future. So, I left that project & currently I am under no project.

I did give few interviews & tests but all companies were offering stipends around Rs 6000-8000 while I am trying to get above Rs 10000. Some acquaintances of my father have advised that I go for a 5 week SAP course (the technical ABAP module) at Siemens.

Now since an year of mine has been almost wasted, will it be right for a B.Tech IT graduate like me who has an year of experience to go for this course ? My parents don't mind spending around Rs 3.5 lakhs for this course but will it be fruitful or do I have to wait for another 2-3 years.

Right now I am getting only Rs 10000 in my office & there's no guarantee when we will be confirmed or will we even get confirmed.

IMI no doubt is a very good college and as said by "just_chillax" CAT is an unpreditable game now .....One more thing if we keep aside the CAT unpreditableness would be u have already dropped 1 year (assuming as u have 2 CAT attempts) and as quoted by u being a girl u wanna do MAB asap,, and this year your performance was really appreciable and converting IMI is not a lil thing.....

I know its really very tough to decide but believe me ponder over it for some time and u will know what to do Best decision will be listening ur heart..that will make sure u will never regret your decision ever in your life as u want it and its best for U acc. to u and your heart....After pondering over it If u feel u wanna try once more then go ahead OR if u feel i can't take more chance and IMI is good enough go for it!!

i believe taking admission in any XYZ b-school is isnt as good an option as to give another try for a good b-school next year...moreso as u really want to get into IIFT and have done a diploma in international business why let go ur course for a waste and missin the cut off by just 3 marks indicates u are almost there nd ur chances of getting a call nxt yr from ur dream college IIFT are pretty high as nxt yr u'll have work ex as well...

Life isnt tat short tat u cant wait an yr to fulfill ur dream dont get disheartend yaar...just remember one thing

I think... IMI is surely ur Best Convert dis season (hopefully it will get convert)
(And u definitely liked it, dats y filled d form)

No favouritism out here.. But in my opinion, CAT has become an altogether diffrent kinda unpredictable game dis season, and frankly speakin.. i'm not too c about d next year too convinced about d next year promises too

So if u think u can "surely" excel next year, and u r satisfied with ur job, n can cope up with it 4 d next 1 year.. GO 4 IT

In such a scenario, I don't think anyone can concentrate and study in office. Moreover, with so many people around you always, you risk a chance of getting reported. The better way would be to finish your work as early as possible, complete the minimum time required in the office, get home and prepare. You might not have internet to read online but atleast you have some peace to concentrate. Besides, if you practice offline, you can very well continue online as well, not at all a big deal as is made out to be.

I fully agree with what my pal here said. Even if you have finished your work, do not do other stuff at your desk as some psycho colleague/ tech lead will start making a fuss.

Go ahead and join IMI . Dont torture yourself unnecessary. IMI is an institute of great repo. people try hard to get into it. Just dance on the chance. Who knows how the CAT sits next year .

the thing i really feel bad about is....last yr i was so determined to get into gud b school....got 90+%iles in most of AIMCATS....i should have got in with so much hardwork but my fate ditched me...it feels really bad...and i being a gal will have to do MBA as soon as i can i wish i have ample time and try again and again for IIMs :(..but its just that i know i deserve something gud which i didn achieve this yr

Hi,

I was in almost a similar situation last year ( and i decided in favor of drop ). Your score is decent and seeing your acads and call from SPJ , i would suggest to go for a drop ( if you are not too much inclined towards taking admit this year itself) .

Also, you will gain work ex in coming 1 year and with a better score, you will have good chances of calls from all top b-schools. IMI is also a reputed b-school , no offences meant but i have always believed in taking the chance till we have confidence that we can score better and land in a better place.

You acads are good enough to fetch you IIM calls and from other top b-schools with a slight increase in your score (seeing this year trend) and work ex will be an added advantage during gdpi.

So , my suggestion, if you don't find your job too frustrating and think that you can cope up with job as well as preparation , you should go ahead with dropping a year . And, since this will be your second attempt, you will need to concentrate on mocks and their analysis more rather than basics which i assume are clear to you for most of the topics at your score.

the best thing about lyf is its unpredictable....u shud never limit yourself, because its only when you dream that u stand a chance of succeeding...look at my profile and then decide if you have the capability to get into an IIM or not...i got thru only because i believed i could do it -

Difficulty of Mocks doesnt really matter.. wat matters is ur comparitive performance with oders
Practicing n ANALYSING every mock will help u a grt deal,, i 2 faced d similar prob in d starting

Practise more and more...You will definitely improve.This year cat was more about solving questions fast rather than solving difficult questions.

Started preparing for CAT and other MBA exams. Had a disastrous season.
In the mean way lost my job.They gave the reason that no project now and we don't have any requirment. This was a big blow to me.
After that I have been trying in some PSU and banks But no succes till now. I don't want to go in IT sector as i know nothing of it.

I want to know that in which other sectors can i try for getting a job and how? I don't think i will go for Cat this year may be next year.In telecom sector it is too difficult to get a job.I have tried through some job website like Naukri but get no response from them. I am too frustrated now. Please advice me what to do now.

U can try for any FMCG,consulting companies like:Deloitte,KPMG,they do hire engineers as an analyst,u can try for future's first,On mobile...these are some of the good companies tat hire engineers often and give a good package as well.

If u are interested in finance then u can try any share trading broker like India bulls.This wud really help u in MBA interviews if u wanna do an MBA in Finance.
