For your training location there is no option. But after that there is an option where you would like to work. 3 options are given. Most of the people generally get either the 1st or 2nd.
As far as your training question is concerned (its valid here !!) , Yes, there is a training period for 2 months before you are put in the resource pool for allocation to projects.

The 5 lpa deal is fine. Although I woudn't be surprised to see you get close to 5.5 lpa.
ASE is sort of combination of SE and SSE. The next designation is IT Analyst which you will become with 5 years of total experience. So that another 1 year 10 months for you to become eligible for ITA.
Increment after a year are decent. They are, like almost everywhere, dependent on the market trends.
It is possible to change your profile but the longer you have been in a profile for e.g. you have been in .NET for 3+ years now. ,harder it gets .
But my question is why would you like to switch to another profile now, after 3+ years

The attrition rate in TCS is around 13%. For freshers its a little higher.
But again these numbers are only so accurate. So take these numbers with a pinch of salt

Its quite easygoin. But I suggest you go through a bit of Java because I had a tough time to start with initially during month long Java Training (we did not have Java in our B.E curriculum !!!)

The only thing worth reading would be Java/OS (if you are from a non-circuit branch of engg like Mech, Production etc). If you are from one of the circuit branches of engg. then I would say do not take much pressure regarding the pre ILP course. Read whichever and whenever you feel like and relax. I think TCS would be a better deal than HCL Tech

BTW, Location of TCS is not Trivandrum. That is just location of the training center where you will have your ILP. After which you will be posted in locations like Mumbai, Chenna, Delhi/NCR etc. TCS Trivandrum only has training facility. So never know , post ILP you might be in Delhi/NCR or Bangalore.

Since I no longer work in TCS, I would not be updated about the latest openings. But I can assure you that there are lot of walk-in drives that happen across TCS locations like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi/NCR etc in the weekends (not every weekend though !!!). I remember seeing a lot of SAP openings when I was with TCS .
Not very sure of the package. Depends on your module and relevant experience and ofcourse how much they are willing to pay !!!

Not Really. We are askd to prioritize amongst 3 choices. Then based on availibility we are assigned. Generally we get our 1st or 2nd choice.

CTC of 9 lpa is good. But just for info's sake Mumbai has a high cost of living so expenditure tends to be higher. Otherwise the deal is fine.

Onsite opportunities are dependent on various parameters like stage of the project, team size, client demands, technology domain (yours is Siebel CRM ).
Hope you get an onsite under today's stiff circumstances ......

I got selected in campus hiring by TCS as an assistant systems analyst wid 4.75l package..m a fresher mba..they said that we may be ASAs in the BPO division of TCS and our work will be same as IT...I want to know whether we ll be at a disadvantage if put in their BPO arm??? :lookround:

I am not very sure of the BPO division. But you will NOT have any salary increase when you join even though you will be joining in the next financial year

Your designation is commensurate with your experience , so that is fine. (Assuming that you are joining as an ITA)

I do not know about the relocation thing. You might want to ask the HR or the concerned person about this.

Lets go one by one again...

1. Package is fine.....try and get a break up of your salary and estimate how much in-hand you are going to get. CTC looks fine.

2. You would obviously know that C,C++ is applicable more in telecom than Banking domain (Java/J2EE is more prevalant here). And Mumbai has more pronounced Fin Services clients. But then since Mumbai is a big revenue generator and the HQ you should get ample opportunities for onsite. Although there are other factors like kind of project, kind of boss, kind of team members, the rapport you build and blah blah blah ....

3. Not really very sure of this. Salary seems fine. You might want to check with other guys on this.

BTW, I believe you would have joined as an ITA (that is a designation ) and hoping that you become a lead in whatever project you land up ( Team Lead is your role and its different from your designation). You might want to check up with TCS asking them if they are really looking for team members or team lead roles . Generally people with 5+ years exp have desigantion as ITA and role as Team Lead .....

BTW, when you say technical I hope you the computer science and not your mechanical concepts .

So if thats what you are aiming at then it take quite some time for you to reach that level (not less than 5 years). I got selected in TCS under campus selection. They've given me the offer letter which says my designation will be Assistant systems Engineer Trainee and my package is 3.16 lpa.
Please somebody tell me how my salary will unfold and when and how much increments will I get.
Also please tell if I should undergo any course beforehand joining the company as I am from Elex and Telecomm.

You join as a Assistant Systems Engineer- Trainee. After a year of working, you are Assistant Systems Engineer. This is called the confirmation process and happens in the first year. After which you get a hike which is independent of your first year performance rating. The amount has differed from batch to batch. Like people who joined in 2006 had their salary nearly double( from 2.2x lpa to 3.88 lpa).
We, thanks to the recession did not get any hike after a year although our designation was now ASE( read above). But after March 2010, there was a hike which was dependent on rating and then another hike in July (cuz thats wen we completed 2 years of exp)which was also rating dependent. People who were top performers (A-band) had new sal. around 4.5 lpa, good performers(B-band) had around 4.1 lpa and hence forth for C (around 3.8 lpa)and D band(around 3.6 lpa). People in E band (the most hopelessly low performers get this.....or if you manage to put up a fight with your boss and his boss) get a deduction in salary as their variable pay component is removed ..

There is no need for any specific preparation

U seemed to be very confused abt TCS
Just a word of caution and advice For TCS do not join as an ITA
it is very tough to get promoted in TCS , u have to work ur skin out
better negotiate on profile and salary , in case they say it is according to TCS stantard then leave it .
Get the knowlege abt onsite oppurtunities beforehand because TCS is very tricky and not among the pay masters . also for onsite their is a powerful lobby which wld already be in place whichever project u go ..

I got selected in TCS under campus selection. They've given me the offer letter which says my designation will be Assistant systems Engineer Trainee and my package is 3.16 lpa.
Please somebody tell me how my salary will unfold and when and how much increments will I get.
Also please tell if I should undergo any course beforehand joining the company as I am from Elex and Telecomm.

Hello everyone ! I got through the campus recruitment tests of TCS and HCL Technologies. I want to ask about the work culture, growth prospects and stability of jobs in both TCS and HCL Technologies.

I would like to prepare for CAT even if I join any one of these companies. I would like to make an informed decision keeping in mind all that you might suggest.

Can U pls let me know the salary range for ITA and work exp required for C3 (Assistant consultant) and their salary range , Also let me know average annual increment in TCS

Given the fact that Pune is no Mumbai OR Bangalore I believe your onsite opportunities will based on the project that you get. I dont mean to dishearten you though. TCS undoubtedly offers very lucrative onsite opportunities.
I believe when one is joining as a ITA with an MBA degree he/she should get a little more than 7.x lpa. You are gettin the right salary for an ITA. That is why I had mentioned in my previous post that may be TCS is not attaching much value to your MBA + experience.

Yes, I was with TCS and hence I have a decent idea of how things work in there. Its quite understandable if you read the posts on this and the previous page of this thread.
It would be very nice if you can manage around 8 lpa(negotiate !!!) OR may be you join with package and get lots of onsite opportunities.
The extent of onsite opportunities depends on projects and other factors(something you cannot figure out at the time of joining). But generally TCS @ Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai being the top 3 centers , they offer better onsite opportunities.

Ideally someone without an MBA would be getting 7+ lpa with 5.2 years experience.
Since you have an MBA, you should command more unless TCS is not attaching much weightage to your MBA as such. Maybe you can leverage your MBA AND your past CTC to come up with a better deal.
Ideally you will not be getting a huge hike say 9 lpa or somethn but you should definitely try for a package better than 7.x lpa.

If you answer 2 of my questions it might help me come to a better conclusion.

1. Where did you do your MBA from ?
2. Where are you working now (as in before TCS ) ??

hey friends, tcs came to our campus last week for recruitment.. n i am happy 2 inform u all dat i got selected..

there were two rounds..
1. apti
2. interview( tech+hr)

those who had above 75% throughout their academic career were exempted 4m apti exam..

for others there was one openseesame portal which they had prepared specially for apti exam.. the ques were on d very pattern...

one caution guys.. ques were not 4m r.s. agarwal or 4m barrons.. they were completely logical..
one example.. in a certain planet there r 8 days in a week, 36 hrs a day, 90 min in an hour and 60 sec in a min.. find the angle between clock hands when it is 12:40 at that planet..
another one, if 12 programers can type 12 lines of code in 12 min.. find in how many min can 48 prog type 48 lines of code..
so ques were all damn logical.. prepare for them bcoz cut off in my campus was appprox 60%...

as for interview, there cant be nothing easier than that.. they will surely ask bout ur project.. so prepare for that..

ques which were asked to me were..
about urself, if i give u 3 weeks what changes will u make in ur project, ur 2 weekness, y tcs, r u willing 2 relocate 2 any part of country, y should i hire u.. and they asked thesee ques both in tech as well as hr int..

one more thing..in interview a lot depends on luck as well.. bcoz to some of my friends they asked ques like what protocols r used in wi fi n something like that.. n they even asked 2 write lines of code of project which u hv made.. so it all depends on d person u r going 2 gv interview.. bt even then if u didnt knw d answers dont worry.. jst say to them that i am comf in these subjects.. u can ask me ques on those subjects..

also they will ask u bout ur fav subjects.. be ready for one or two.. dnt gv them long list.. remember u should be thorough wid those subbjects.. they may ask aything or even nothing as happend wid me..

caution: plz dont get nervous there.. they r not going 2 eat u up there.. one of my friends was well prepared bt got rejected bcoz he gt too much nervous..

another thing... normaly tcs has pre placement talk in every campus where ever they go.. listen to that very carefully.. n note down d points.. also while going 4 int u should be knowing bout tcs like its revenues, current projects etc. they tell everything in ppt.. so listen to that carefully..

one last thing.. they r hiring a lot.. so if u manage to clear apti exam , u r almost through... provided u hv good comunication skills n confidence.. dont speak too much.. jst speak only that much what u knw..

I have 4.5 yrs of experience. I got an offer from TCS of 7.27 lpa. I have been offered IT Analyst designation in C2 grade. My salary structure is as follows:

Basic Salary 14500
Bouquet of Benefits 17508
Monthly Variable 21300
Quarterly Variable 4700
PF 1740
Gratuity 697

Is it a good offer?
Is the designation ITA as per my experience?
What is C2 grade?
Are variable components normally so high(more than 40%) for ITA designation?

Dont take the HR round lightly. 1 guy named Sunil Mittal as his icon (He was nervous !!!). He dint know anythin about him and got screwed !!!! So avoid such blunders . It should be dolly if you reamin calm.

2. Questions on your B.Tech Project (Prepare this well. I am ECE and they asked a lot on it).

You will have to clear a written exam at first. Everything apart from the logical reasoning is doable. Logical reasoning is lifted from barron's 12th edition(not very sure of the edition). So try and go through that. Rest of the questions will b e simple maths and damn tough vocab questions. For vocab questions you can mug up any barron's edition .
