Can anyone tell the exact timings of morning and evening sessions of CFA exam held last year in June 2008.I know that each session is of 3 hours duration but wanted the timings so as plan to book the flight tickets accordingly.

the notes that you will get at nai sarak I am not confirm about whether they are of 2009 or 2008 but lets face it there are only very minor changes in curriculum and I doubt that there are changes at all butn even if you get 2008 notes you can always have the soft copies of 2009 material to tally if something is missing so I for one don't think it will have any effect on preparation.

You can choose to get photocopies of schweser notes from nai sarak however they are the same as in softcopies available on net so I would say that you join google group for cfa december and you will get all the schweser notes and some other very useful information as well.

am planning to take CFA L1 in dec .. but I haven't registered yet .. I wanted to know wat all things ( study material, calculators etc. ), apart from the material provided by CFAI, are required for preparation .. I've heard about Schweser notes but dont know from whr to get them .. Can someone tell me the details of the location in Delhi from whr I can get them ... Any June 2009 candidates from India who did not receive the 2 April 2009 e-mail asking if they would like to take the CFA exam on Sunday, 7 June 2009 in Mumbai should contact us to request a test center change.

A quick question...did you get the option to select Mumbai as the test center or you went with Kathmandu etc etc and then you got emails informing that the center will be in mumbai.

I am taking this in December 2009 and am not getting the Mumbai option...need some clarification here.

The option was made available only for the June exam and not for the December Exam. The High court ruling has only allowed it for the June exam.
This is a similar case as there was exam held in Mumbai last time around in june but was not held in India in December.
Hence you will not find it on the website till a ruling for the december exam is passed.

Till last year it was held at Thakur College, Kandivli-east.

Any one can give the exam. To become a CFA charter holder, you need to pass all 3 exams and then have a work ex greater than 3 years in financial domain.

Just go to CFA Institute Home and register yourself.
They send some books/reading material. But try to get Schweser Notes 2009 from someone.

What Nilesh means is that...if someone who has not worked in the financial domain it would take a little more time understanding the material.

Personally, i think studying for CFA is no rocket science... (preparing for L1 in Dec) Just that it will take time to absorb the concepts since they will be new to most people.

But I suggest go ahead and register for L1 this dec, so you can apply for L2 in June. L1 is offered in Jun and Dec while L2/L3 is only in Jun.
So that will save a year for you.

Apply right now, get the material and start studying ... try to get Schweser 2009 Notes if you can...

All the topics are tested in both the exams.

Just checked my mail. The good news is that we are allowed to take the JUNE 09 L1 exam in MUMBAI. I had originally taken Colombo as the test centre . Have changed it to MUMBAI. I got a mail from the Institute itself. Its confirmed. ALL THE BEST ..

Yeah Guys, Me too recieved the mail from CFA institute which says that Delhi High court Ruling has come to the affect that they will be able to hold their June exam( am not very much sure of the december exam) in Mumbai. The last date to change the center is 10th April, 2009. Inform your friends so that they can cancel their tickets to any other place they had planned earlier.

Any idea on where is the location normally in Mumbai?

Also can anybody let me know of where can I buy the Schweser Material for 2009 in Mumbai. Also, is the material very much different from the 2008 material except for the 3 choice options which we are having this year as compared to the last year.

I too am interested in taking the CFA exam and I am glad that their are others like me that are excited about taking this exam. I have a couple of questions though.

1. are the CFA tutorial books included with exam fees

2. does anyone know the deadline for the Dec 09 registration ($990 deadline)

I am in my 2nd month stying for this exam and I am currently reading a book called Investments by Bodie, Kane and Marcus...its very good I recommend it. I read it and I am now making a word document to highlight all the important stuff I need to know. After this I think I will start studying for the ethics and regulation pdf that is posted in the CFA Institute website.

I am also taking L1 in June 2009 but I am going just by the material sent by the CFA institute. Most of the people here seem to have been going by Schweser. Any one going by just the CFA Institute material? Would like to know how are you keeping up and how much time you are planning for the revision. CFA says last one and a half month for the revision. I don't think I will be able to do more than 20-22 days of revision. Also, I have a crazy 12-14 hr/day job in finance industry and hav to put that many hrs to save my job (which of course is my first priority)

I don't have any Fin background and this is my first attempt. Anyone else from NJ taking the exam here.

Those who have selected Kathmandu as their Test Centre, how are they planning to go to Nepal?

Is there any Train Facility also, to go to Kathmandu? Anybody here, planning to go via Train? I guess, if we are going by Train, we will have to go to the Nepal Border(Jogbani, the Nepal Border Town in Bihar, via Train), and then we will have to catch a Bus. I think there isnt any Visa neccesity for Indian Citizen travelling to Nepal.

Help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

There is no visa requirement for traveling to Nepal. Regarding the trip, you can take a train to Gorakhpur station and from there on take a bus/ car ride to border town of Sunaoli. From across the border there are buses to Kathmandu. Alternatively if you are in a group, you can take a car/ van/ bus.

From my experience, you will need to bargain very good if you want to get a good price for the van thing. Also make sure you decide the currency as well when ie whether you are paying in nepali rupees or indian rupees.

Also please try and get a booking done for your stay in nepal since the place is almost houseful at that time. Difficult to get a proper place to stay. I believe you dont want to spend time searching for a place. ;)

This is all I can think of the travel requirements.

i had the same problem, added extra money in the card, it takes 3 days for the amt to credit in ur card and den u may make the txn.
4 wire transfer u can get in tch wid a brnch dealing in foreign exchange and ask 4 d procedure.. usually it is form a and details of cfa institute and account details.
