Can anyone explain me in detail that what is the difference between a Phrase and a dependent clause as i found both to be same as both don't convey proper meaning ??

I, too, was confused between C and D.But then I thought: You can't "claim" an ability, you can "claim" "to possess/ to be able to do".The answer is D.

Basically, claim is a transitive verb and needs an object associated with it.
So saying that "the firm claimed from a one-page writing" is incomplete and incorrect.

Actually in this option, there is no comma before which and so, this option does not merit a second look. If there was a comma before which, then which would have referred to hypothesis.Lead to. This is one of those few sentences which actually does test your vocabulary to an extent; we need to know the meaning of "plausible" to ensure that the opening modifier is modifying the right word/phrase.
