There is a documented posted on the BTG forum where the guy has taken GMATprep repeatedly and scored 49-51 each time. It is a compilation of around 300 such questions.

So, would colleges themselves take into consideration, the months of experience which would increase to 24 months just before the course commences?

Use the "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy. Basically just try to ignore that part and hope no one in the admission committee is going to sit with a magnifying glass looking into it. If they do ask you - be ready for a good reason on why you botched up. My guess is that most schools would not bother.

No work experience is a parameter to judge there are many good B Schools which Take You without work exp there is harvard 2+2 program which does not need an experince for more details contact theie website.

First of all you want to know not wanted to know i don't know how you managed a score of 730!
AWA scores are important as per my knowledge you must write TOEFL/IELTS if your university(From where you did graduation) is non English which most of Indian Universities are,it will not offset poor AWA score as they are different parameters.

My take is to focus on the GMAT as a separate activity and get it done with as soon as practical. With about 3 months of prep I would recommend you target May-June 2011. Once done you will need atleast another few months to do your R&D; on schools. I think the Admission Cycle will kick off with ISB in August 2011.

It is 51. Technically you could get that by getting a few questions wrong (experimental questions - which are around 9/37).

If you register for online prep courses such as knewton and grockit you would get the videos on demand (not DVD). Apart from that I have seen some India-based companies conduct a few classes on youtube but they sucked big-time so my recommendation is not to waste your time on that.

AWA is a simple section where you need to bring our your thinking or reasons.
I suggest you practice the essays after understanding what you need to do in each of the essays. You can go through some samples online to have clarity.
For issue- either agree or disagree to the author and accordingly give reasons for whatever you say.
For argument- bring out the conclusion and the flaws in the assumption. These flaws can be anything related to the argument topic.

* Average student with around 4.5 years experience in Software Industry.
* I perform better in Maths & Weak in English (My X marks - CBSE in Maths - 90, English - 67)
* Recent test i undertook was JMET'2011 - with around 4 weeks prep (Ranked around 18,000s in 26,000s)
I'm starting GMAT fresh.

I need help on the following queries,
1) With 4.55yrs of work ex & With GMAt I am targetting colleges for their intake from jan-2012
India -ISB, glakes, IIMs, SPjain, XLRI.
Abroad-HKUST, NUS, Nanyang, INSEAD
By which month I should be done with GMAT.
2) Roughly the application essays, recommdations, bank statements take how much time.
3) can the same essay in general be useful for all colleges.or should i start working on application along with GMAT to prevent last minute rush in their submission.
4) Does applying in R2 affect the college's decision in selecting me/ Why is it advisable to apply in round 1.
4) Does scholarship depends upon which session you take admission, given the fact there are 2 sessions/ seperate batch for many colleges.

SC seems to 2b the pain in the ass 4me.Even in general practice i get 2 out of 5 wrng in SC.Std Eng grammar has nevr been my cup of tea n i alwyz go by logic in answering these type of ques.plz suggest me some material (preferably onlin as i am posted in remote location) which takes me through concepts involved in SC part.

Hi Atul

The official GMAT prep is quite close to the real test and usually test taker ends up getting 30 points in the real test. To be honest for you to see a 700 on the real test you should be getting atleast 670 on the prep (unless the D-day is one of your luckiest day...Touchwood!!)
With respect to concentration I suggest you practice from the soft copies of the material so that you get used to solving questions looking at the computer. This surely helps!!

For AWA a week is more than enough. Just go through some samples and write a couple of essays.

Your book-selection looks fine. You've covered the important books. The others can be for additional practice.

Look to Knewton, Kaplan and PR for the free-test. Don't go by the final score-- just use the practice. That is the key-- the more comfortable you are with the entire process, the easier test-day will become for you. Also ensure you are sitting for ALL sections.

For AWA, look to the OG. There are also templates floating around the internet. Google is your best friend.

INSEAD will be tough for you. The ave work-ex is 5+. From now till August or so will be as good a time as any to take the GMAT. After that you will become busy in writing essays, getting your recos in order and meeting the deadlines. Do not under-estimate this-- its far more time-consuming than you realize.

As for required work-ex, most schools don't state that as a necessary requirement but a quick perusal of Admitted student stats will show that most have over 2years. Its generally considered at the time of applying but this differs from school to school.

10th and 12th marks dont matter. Nobody cares how you performed then.

Define "Good"? What field do you want to study? Where do you want to study? Post MBA goals? Budget constraints? All these will help you answer your Q.

My definition of a "good" school is Tuck, Columbia, Ross... based on your stats alone, you won't make it. That's not very helpful to you is it? Answer the above Qs, and maybe we can help.

Family managed businesses are definitely counted; some colleges attach a lot of importance to entrepreneurs so that's a plus.

On GMAT, the requirement varies from school to school - but as an aspiration, always aim for 700+, cant go much wrong there
