Hi All,
Just started with my GMAT preparation. Looking into the forum response, I have joined the crack isb institute today at Kukatpally. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the decision was right.

Hi People,

I am planning to prepare for GMAT, can anyone tell me more about some good intitutes in India accepting GMAT scores apart from ISB.

I have a work ex of 19 months in Infosys. Also please do share with me your insights on the courses offered by S.P Jain as i have heard a lot about them (especially the GMBA).

How much GMAT score is considered safe to get in considering my work ex and what other options do i have...TIA..

Naren90 Hi Aishwarya, GMAT is not the only criteria to join a B school. Actually its like a prerequisite. If at all your profile is damn good and competitive with the market standards im pretty sure your GMAT will be neglected. I mean they give it a less importance because you can cover it up with the profile you have. I have attended info sessions of few b schools and all of them say the same about GMAT. Its better, to be on a safer side, to give your best shot at GMAT. i mean anything above 700 would fetch you a good b school . and there is one more thing with ISB. They look for diversification in the class room. I mean they would like to accommodate students from different work ex background just to ensure that students interact among the peer group and learn more than what is taught in the class. Now the stats say 60 % of the applicants are Engineers and 30-40 % oof the applicants are from the IT industry. So there lies the competition. Try to take an edge over others and you are inn :).. hope this small info regarding the Bschool entries would help you.. even i started my preparation a week ago.

leo_thestar hi naren,i think isb is offering early entry programme. we could even apply with less experience so that we would be given deferred admission if they r convinced with our suitability

Naren90 @leo_thestar I have already applied for ISB YLP already during my prefinal year of my graduation. Trust me, they were looking out for exceptional profiles. To be frank, exceptional profiles during graduation and schooling is kinda difficult and if you see around 60% profiles who are already into ISB wont have exceptional profiles during childhood or during their UG. whatever they have achieved will be during your work experience. Work experience, on the other hand gives you insight into the business which will actually help you out for the PGP admission too. I know about the profile i have and i dont want to give a try by applying for ISB early entry. Il take a 3-4 year work ex and then give the best shot possible. I don't have any time constraints so i decided to do that. And trust me on this a GMAT of 790 + a 9 pointer and a decent profile in leadership qualities was rejected during YLP when the competition was not so great. I mean around 1200 applied during that time and 33 were offered admission. Basically what i meant to say is that i dont want to take a risk and be a reject at the first moment. if you are a reject and if you apply again you need to keep showing them what all you have accomplished from the last time you applied. Things will be tough then. This is just my perception towards it. if you have anything else please drop in so that we can think over it and help each other @leo_thestar and @aishwarya20 i guess you have got the answer for your question too

For basics, you can follow any coaching institute's material for CAT.
alternatively, you have a book "Quantum CAT" . you can follow this to grasp the basics and also has lots of good questions.

Hi frnds, i have been hearing a lot about verbal training at crack isb these days from my friends,collegues and some of you puys.they say its outstanding there but no one is talking abt quants training there ? probably because you guys r good at quants. i am very poor in maths.need a lot of basics,can i go to these people for quants even ?any nice book to help me out with basics because it has been ages since i touched maths.i think i have less time,donno what would i do

komal.agarval quantum CAT is a good book and Princeton review maths book also helps for beginner as it is divided into chapter wise basics. dont be panic meghana.better you start your preparation .it is not as daunting as you think.u feel comfortable once you start your practice. you can go to crack isb for maths even.they have very good expertise.liked it.time doesn't matter if you are committed enough.good luck

neha_jasti Hi jatin.good that you have started your preparation seriously.For sentence correction i did og 13 and verbal review diligently as suggested by my verbal trainer at crack isb. infact i feel the comfort levels that i have with sc primarily because of strong foundation of grammar given by him.he has done it in an insightful way with outstanding strategies otherwise i would have hated grammar as i always had been in my life.i suggest you to do og 13 first along with explanations given at the end of the book.then i did a few sets of questions given by that institute.i myself purchased MGMAT s.c book..its really a good book to get practice.later i solved some knewton questions sent by my cousin from sydney. you need to seriously be interested abt reading otherwise u'll have tough time with r.c,even with c.r,where reading and comprehension matters a lot.browse some articles in economic times,the science magazines for sometime everyday,especially op-ed pages.keep your fingers crossed,you could win the race

hi harikrishna,i initially took training at Manhattan review, what mr.pavan said is right.Manhattan review doent get into in depth concepts IN VERBAL.i had spoken with couple of trainers there but my efforts went in vain.however math faculty was good at their himayathnagar branch where i too...

hi harikrishna Manhattan review verbal coaching is good for a beginner.Manhattan review do not coach you deep verbal subject .My suggestion is go through online courses such as e-gmat,veritas,knewton ,MGMAT etc.

@sne04 OG is a must for any GMAT taker - and if you do the OG very thoroughly, a good part of your prep is done! Next would come Kaplan material, especially if you are aiming for 700+. I took the Manhattan GMAT online test series package and I honestly don't know what I would have done without it...

@Holly18 - One good advice would be to learn Vedic maths. Also, try to do mental calculations more. Like, when you are in office or anywhere, try to do a 3 digit multiplication or division in your mind. This will eventually reduce the time you spend on Simple calculations.
