I am just about to kickstart my preperation for GMAT and want to give it around June end. My plan is-

1) 1 month of rigorous self study while doing OG-13, OG 2- Verbal and Quant and Manhatten GMAT-all 8 books.

I have herad of some other study material like Sanjeev Gupta's notes and others but am not sure should I do them.

2) After above I tend to join ********/Career Launcher in Delhi fast track course{4 times a week (for 3 hours each) x 5 wks}.

and then probably 1-2 more weeks of study and time training and then will give the exam in June.

Please suggest me what do you think about my plan. I will be starting with scratch. I am good in Quant but really have to work on verbal section.

I will really appreciate any suggestions about my plan or study material. Also, please pm me any study material which might ne useful in GMAT preparation...

I have done MBBS from PGIMS, Rohtak and am presently doing research in NY. I will be coming to India in april 1st week and plan to give GMAT around June last week-Mid July. I am planning to devote 3 months of concentrated preparation for GMAT along with coaching from Jamboori, Delhi.

I have started studying OG-13th edition and am planning to study OG-verbal and Quant, Manhatten GMAT(all 8 books). I am not sure about other study material but will try to find it after coming to India.

Target Score: High 700......
Target School: Wharton, Kellog, Jhonson, LSB, ISB or any good school offering health care administration(will assess further after the score).

Hi Sonalika,

From personal experience, I found it helpful to proceed as follows:

1. Read up basic information about the different sections that are part of the GMAT at mba.com.

2. Take 1 of the 2 full-length computer adaptive tests available on mba.com at Free Test-Preparation Software

This will enable you to better understand your strengths and weaknesses and areas that require greater focus.

3. Complete everything that's part of The Official Guide (along with the separate Verbal and Math guides)

4. Manhattan GMAT material

5. Princeton Review material (including practice tests)

6. Kaplan

7. Veritas Prep

Of course once you are done with all of that, come back here and I'm sure all the esteemed and super-helpful people on this forum would be able to provide additional resources.

One thing I would highly recommend is maintaining an Error Log of your mistakes as this will come in extremely handy for you as you get closer to the GMAT when you want to selectively study and focus on your mistakes. Furthermore, it's not about how many answers you get right but also about how well you understand the concepts. You can get a lot of answers right as a fluke but if you get the concepts, you are more likely to repeat your success again and again. Just my $0.02, hope it helps :)

DDay for me is 9th March...quite nervous... Scoring around 710, 720 in Preps and Mock... I feel the GMAT Prep question are much tougher than OGs in verbal.:banghead:

Turning to you again for an advice.

What kind of strategy should be followed while preparing for the exam ?

Given I'l be preparing over a 3 month period :

1) How should the sequence be followed regarding the books and material ?
2) How often should I keep taking the tests ( this includes the sectional
tests as well as the full length mocks).
3) I'm a little weak with the verbal part so kindly suggest me a strategy for cracking verbal too : RC, CR and SC :)

Another thing , apart from Manhattan SC I've heard of another book which is SC Grail which gives a little more comprehensive view of SC .

So before hooking onto Manhattan should I give a peek into this book ?

1) Does the coaching institute provide sufficient trial classes to judge the quality of the faculty. I will recommend at least 3 classes of 3 hours each.

2) Does the institute permit payment of fees in instalments. I will recommend payment in 3 equal instalments. The last instalment should be paid when more than 50% of the GMAT classes are over.

3) Has the faculty himself/herself taken the GMAT and is the faculty aware of the latest trend on the GMAT.

4) Also, before joining, do talk with the current students of the coaching institute, in private. Ask them if they are satisfied.

I am actaully looking out for a quality coaching intitute where the faculty is the actual GMAT test takers and the not SME's for maths and English

I am new to PG (as a member),though I used to browse the forum earlier w/o being a registered users.
I am targeting 1 yr PGP Ex after 5 Yrs of work ex,through GMAT 2012 ,only in India.
I am currently working as IT Analyst in TCS,Gurgaon and have 18months of onsite exposure at US.
Completed my B.Tech in Mechanical Eng with 9. cgpa from AAI DU.
Loads of extra curricular activities and awards.

Still in dilemma should I join some coaching institute of do self preparation for GMAT .
I visited CL and Jam** ,not convinced by them, also unable to decide whether pay them 30K for 11 weeks or keep studying my way...I live in Patel Nagar,West Delhi...need some guidance from puys...
