i suggest from my experience....to make practice tests a regular part of your study schedule. a couple of tests in a week, and hours spent afterwards to analyse what you marked wrong, will help you a lot down the line.

just my 2 cents from the experience.

Hie... I have 27 months of work ex..
I prepared of CAT etc... I started my prep 2 months back.. lost tempo.. now starting again...
Books That i currenly hav.. and been suggested are :
1) Manhattan GMAT - Sentence Correction - started with this..
2) OG Verbal workbook
3) KAPLAN Math Workbook

Not sure whether i should do both simultaneously, or start wid verbal/math first. I took a mock - the gmac mock 2 months back.. did horrivle scored early 500s... I need to do well in my exam.. I scored a 93%ile in CAT..
My math is okay and verbal is good... Need some good strategy and proper focus to my studies.. I have time in ofc to study a little as well. I want to start full fledged as a part of this group. Please helllpppp

for most of the colleges the score is valid for five years, so you can actually plan your gmat now, and than probably afterwards ou can decide , for wen to apply for admission.

as for the elligibilty to apply, i think time and dates you can see. once you register on mba.com.

and as far as i know, for most of the colleges there is no minimum exp critirea. and you will have to distinguish urself for other ppl..like by very gud acads , gmat score or extracurricular....( as you belong from IT pool)..

Give gmat prep once . gauge your level with your score . Gather correct material and study . See whether you are able to improve from your initial score to higher score . You can come to know whether you need coaching only if you study the entire GMAT material once .

Ofcourse 740+ requires lot of hardwork and will not be reachable within a month , unless you have seriously prepared for CAT OR you are brainy.

If you are really going through correct material , then you will really not like normal prof's coaching . Obviously if prof is extraordinary , then its always helpful . But the prob is there are no great known profs in pune for gmat .....if u knw , have money and time to go to classes , then u may .

With the kind of GMAT books and websites such as gmatclub , beatthegmat and pagalyguy , you get so much knowledge that u can urself become prof.......but it again depends how quick u pick up both Quant and Verbal section. For every person , the initial level is diff .......and you yourself have to gauge that level.

I just took the gmatprep test today.The first free test and it is devasting i got 520 only,i have 2 3 doubts
1. Is time a factor for each questions i mean for eg if i take 10 mins to solve the first question then will my score drop.
2. If i download the software again will i get a diff set of questions for the same test.
3. In the review section after the test it is showig only the questions no explanation is given that this is coreet way to solve
4.the scores are not given section wise it only showed total marks.

Answers
1. No time is not a factor question wise. You can take as much time u like for any ques. But there is a huge penalty for leaving the test incomplete.Even one unanswered ques can drop ur score by 10 pts.

2.GMAT prep s/w is a question bank which remains same for each dwnld.u might get some different ques but not all.

3. Most of the gmat prep ques soln are available online. if u dont get the solution there, u will surely get the solutions online on one the forums.Just Google.

4. There are two sections...quant and verbal..u will get the scores of these 2 sections only. Detailed analysis needs to be done by oneself.

About me: I am an engineer currently working at one of the Big 4's and a total 18 months of professional experience. I have been a part of GMAT Study group(s) in Pune for a long time for maybe 2/3 years but never appeared for GMAT nor completed my preps due to various reasons.

I would like to be part of this group as I think it would motivate me in some way to prepare for the exam and take dates this time.

As study group goes, we have been meeting frequently at various places especially Barista, FC Road/ JM Road, SB RD, Law College Rd, KP etc... as these places are more centric and convenient for people hopping in from various parts of cities.

As I see most of them here are first timers, I can add my 2 cents regarding meet if needed.

Puys, keep posting about any meet happening in the city, as I would like to attend it 'coz its a great way to network and "study"
