My queries and concerns are pretty much the same as others on this forum. I would like to get my candidature evaluated for ISB 2012.

My profile goes like this :

Undergrad - IIT CGPA (7.
10th - 82%
12th - 90%

GMAT - 720 AWA 4.5

Currently I have more than 2 years of work experience and by april 2012 i would be having nearly 2 years and 9 months of experience.

I have been working at as Senior business analyst at a business analytic's firm. I performance has been fairly good and has been highly recognized in my organization. I also received some awards recognizing the same.

Worked for a start up for more than a year before during my graduation days.

Extra curricular: Moderate amount of extra curricular activities. Won couple of quizzes at state level during schooling. Organized events during the college. Also a part of the company CSR.

So what chances do i stand for this year's candidature for ISB and if the chances are moderate, How can i enhance my profile.

Do i need to retake GMAT to increase the strength of my profile.

Yes- min 2 yrs. go to isb website and download the broucher. I am sure you will get all the FAQs answered there. It's a wonderfully compiled e-booklet.

I believe in 2 things -
1. Once one have booked the date, s/he works more diligently towards GMAT.
2. It is better to get the "small" thing of booking the GMAT appointment out of the way because in case one do not get the desired appointment in desired center then it may act as a small splinter at the back of mind which may affect the preparation.

So my suggestion is that if you are sure you will be well prepared in Feb 2012 and want to take definitely in Feb 2012 then go ahead and book the appointment.

Yes. Also u need to scan and upload the printout of the unofficial score report u received from the gmat centre. It won't be a problem if the official score reaches after a few days after the deadline.

When I attended the ISB info session, I asked the same question to the admission director. What he said was " Even if u submit the application just at the 11th hr(say around 11:55 pm on 15th sept) with ur unofficial score, ur application will be taken for R1.

You don't have to do anything. Non submission implies the form will not be considered for R1. The form is considered only after you click submit button and pay the application fees. Your login will remain active alongwith all the data you have saved.

I have been leading a team of 5 members for nearly 2 years now. I have received several appreciations @my company. (Though I am not sure whether they will count in the application process or not).

So, with the above information, do you think I stand any chance to get a call from ISB?

I don't want to be rude. From the information you have provided there is nothing unique about you. 1000s of ISB applicants have shown leadership skills, have led team, have received awards and have done exemplary work in their professional life and have better score than yours. You are one of the crowd. Appreciations do count in application process. Your main aim should be to diffrentiate yourself from others. Nothing you have stated is a big deal. They may be in real life but I am just commenting on what you have provided. The difference you can make lies in presentation. You may spin a story that will highlight your qualities and brings you out of the crowd. Try working on it. If a person of 8 years experience says that I mentor team members then there is nothing extraordinary about him. That's his job even if it is not a part of individuals goals and objectives in the company. I know you have a sense of achivement that you were youngest to lead the team and are leading a team only with 3 years of experience but believe me you are not the only one. So the main question is how you present yourself so that you come out of herd.

Also in your essays don't just tell that you have leadership skills. A hanging statement "I have shown leadership skills in my company" is of no use. You have to say a story that gives the impression that you have leadership skills.

The deadline for R1 is 15th September and for R2 is 30th November. So if you are applying for R2 then you still have time.

I have a decent academic track record (passed B.E. with 74% marks (Mumbai Univ.), XII with 83% marks (Maharashtra Board) and X with 80% marks (CBSE) )

Hi everyone I am new to Pagalguy...I have a score of 710 with 2 years of experience in Deloitte. I am BTech from IIT Roorkee.I am almost done with my application . The only things I am confused about is my second Recommender. Someone asked me to put one name of my immediate supervisor and one of BTech professor. I did that but now I am confused, as I got to know that both Recos should be from Professional network.

Why is it difficult to find a job post European MBA? Is it because of the recession in Europe or is it generally the case. I actually never thought about MBA in europe but just yesterday somebody told me that Europe has one year mba and it is usually cheaper than US. have always wanted to go to Europe (for visiting though), this seems like a lucrative deal if I can find a nice place to study there. So, I am doing some research on that as well but am not able to understand why is it rated lower than the US.
Actually in most of the Canadian/US schools, the eligibility for exec MBA is to have atleast 8 years work ex out of which atleast 3 years should be at management level. I haven't reached that stage yet. So, exec MBA is not an option for me.
And you are right, you have time on hand. It is better to go to a good school even if you have to try more than once. Hopefully, you will get through this year itself. ISB is definitely a very good choice. Are you going to apply at Great Lakes? It is a new one opened Chennai. I am not sure about the placements but the website etc. have really high opinion of this school.
I will keep that Kaplan point in mind. I was planning my study schedule yesterday and keeping my work in mind, I am not sure if I will be able to put in so much effort for 1.5 months. I am going to try for a few days but if it doesn't works out then I guess I will have to go slow and finish GMAT by december and then apply for 2013 sessions instead of 2012.
Yeah .. you should visit Canada in summer .. winter is not the right time to be here. You can't go out much. Both Canada and US are beautiful, the thing is these places are well maintained. Once you do your MBA, I am sure you will get lot of chances to travel around the world.

yes you are right, that's why i am also preferring 1 year MBA which is very rare in US but some UK/Europe school provide the same but now as you know job is hard after getting a European MBA degree so i am preferring ISB Hyderabad over all of the schools because cost in US or in Canada is almost same as far as i think and as we are experienced so we don't have complete two years. hey i would also like to suggest there is one more if you know SP Jain Twin model GMBA pgm i heard its good and 68th rank world wide bt FT so i will also try for that.

let me know if you can find another one year MBA Pgm which is good world wide because i just wanna do my MBA from top 50 only so if i have to wait i will wait for 1 or 2 or 3 whatever it takes to get in those schools because i just have around 3.5 years of exp so till atleast till 5 years i will get some good ones.

one more thing when you have prepared completely and you think i have covered all subjects then only start this book KAPLAN 800 advanced version don't open it now okies it is also good one.

you can also think of exec. MBA you already have so much exp so i suggest better to do that because you will get very good position in industry and they are just of duration 1 year.

But as such, Canadian banks and other institutes were still going strong.
Also, most of the Canadian b-schools are cheaper than the US ones. But then again the cost per student depends on the scholarship they can get from each b-school (Canada or US).
But as we all know, most of the US schools are comparatively better known than the Canadian ones. The only point is that some of the Canadian schools offer one-year MBA. I am still searching for schools that have one year program in US. Let's see if I can find any. One year course is always cheaper than the two year ones.

SC- Manhattan book best one no need to go anywhere. i am following it only .......if you live in pune then fc road pe photocopy milti hai just in Rs. 300.

Maths - and CR - my teacher suggested Kaplan...good standard

Anyway OG is there for you always and
i bought Kaplan premier 2012 with it one Cd you get with 7 test that is also good investment for 1200/-.

ims test series i heard is good but not sure abt any one available in market.

I'd studied for 3-4 months for CAT and since I was a student then I could give lot more time for preparation on daily basis.
Anyways, any suggestions on GMAT preparation in 1.5 months are welcome. Considering that I am working now, I guess I can give around 4-5 hrs maximum on weekdays and maybe complete days on some weekends.
Anyone who appeared for GMAT in such a short time and scored well (or has learnt from a bad experience), please advise. Any help/advise is appreciated.

When i submit the score after gmat to five schools including ISB, will my un official score be immediately sent to ISB, so that i can apply to ISB within nov 1 after completing my application ( been working on them too for a while. ) I am aware that official scores will be sent 21 days after my exam date to ISB.

My question is can I send the completed application to ISB with unofficial scores ? and also is the un-official score sent to ISB the same day as i give the test ( and send my score to five free schools )?

I also may plan to postpone the test by a week or so not later than nov 2nd. In that case, is there adequate time for my official score to be reached to ISB well within Nov-30 (R-2 deadline ) ?

Dont postpone your test.....you will not gain much in 1 one week which you cannot gain by working hard the next two months ........also you should also give one week for your scores to reach ISB ...scores usually take two to 3 days to reach but u never know ...but finish writing your app for ISB well ahead .....that way you will gain time to review it ....reviewing your app is of utmost importance

Hi Experts,

I have a query regarding the scholarship. As i see 'Nurture India Schol' is only valid for people who have dependants (ie non-earning members). So anyone who has any of the member of family as earning (no matter what the earning is) is not eligible for this scholarship? Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Secondly, i am not able to find the essay box for need based scholarship essay. As i see Merit based scholarship doesn't require an essay but need based does, can someone help me in locating it.

First things first ....try to respect what you do ...that is of utmost importance ....if you urself have no respect for your work....how do you think the adcoms will respect you . So try to take pride in whatever you do and for starters stop calling yourself an IT Slave (Slaves have no other option , but you do )

Now for Gmat prep , you would need 2-3 months of constant and devoted preparation to see you through . Go through the OGs and MGMAT guides , for more help read through the various exam debriefs posted here . Since you are from IT you would need a higher score than most others because IT is the most competetive of all streams . Best of Luck

Hello all,
I am Teal from Chennai (yet another IT slave :shocked:) and I have been thinking of giving GMAT for a year now but has been slacking till date. Want to be able to try admits process for 2012 admits.
I am yet to start. Can someone please advise on the efforts needed and time to prep for the GMAT? I have a Barron's guide for GMAT. Would that suffice or is the official guide 12ed a must?
I am targetting an executive MBA as I will have 5 years ind.exp. with September 2011. But I am not sure of which branch to choose from. Is operations ideal for someone like me? (I have ruled out finance, HR and marketing as I am not interested in those areas. I dont want an MBA in systems as I dont want to come back into IT).

I am sure that there are threads here linking to all I need but can someone please guide me? I am very new to this forum.

I'm planning to write GMAT in October, targeting R2 of ISB.

X:71.2(CBSE)
XII:75.6(CBSE)
College:7.82(NIT Warangal)
Work Ex:Investment Bank Technology-4.2 yrs of WrkEx so far.

Kindly,let me know what score would be required for me to have decent chances of getting through.If possible please let me know,minimum how much time should I keep in buffer for my application process.Based on that I'll take a date for the exam.
