Yes the feedback was given by ISB. One-on-one feedback has started from this year. In previous years the feedback was given through mails.

I had my feedback session on Thursday. The counselor was in my interview panel too (lucky for me). He told me specifically what I have done wrong and what do I need to do. We discussed at length how should I present myself in case of reapplying. What the panel was looking for in me, what they saw and what they did not. How the essays I have written were interpreted and what I could have done in order to make my essays better. We also talked about my plans in life etc.

During the session he confirmed that interview panel does not have access to GMAT scores and grades of post graduation. The interview will be mostly on essays and future after MBA. If you have low grades in post graduation and are called to interview then it is safe to assume that ISB has accepted your low grades. In all probability, low grades will not be discussed in interview but I feel that one should have an answer ready if the question comes up.

How was other's experience?

PS: I am so glad that the feedback was nothing like I got after my appraisal. Seriously made me think the difference in mentality of counselor and managers. There were no generic comments in my feedback with ISB.

I dnt have any extra curricular and NGO work.. Looks difficult to get good recommendations too...

Recommendations are very important to your application as they give a perspective of how you are doing right now. The interview panel gets an information on your leadership activities, proactiveness and other things from recommendations.

An out-of-way question to you would be why is ut difficult for you to get good recommendations?

Hi Niju

Since you are already getting around 760 in sample, aim for around 780-800 to improve your chances. Please note that it still doesnt gaurentee a seat in ISB( infact, a score of 700 doesnt mean you cant get into ISB).

I, too, had a similar feedback session with a counselor two days ago. I am really impressed with the effort put in by ISB, providing an individual feedback; I was an applicant for CO2012 in R2. In this session, the counselor goes over the comments/feedback on your application file and points out what can be done to better the prospects in re-app. The good part of this session is that you can ask specific questions based on the feedback received.

If u go through the isb website(hope u have gone at least once:lookround:) u will find dat the avg age of ISB admits is around 27-28 yrs. So in that case, I hope age won't a barrier for u at least.
Coming to GMAT score, ISB doesn't have a GMAT cut-off. Ppl get addmitted even with a score as low as 640 and also ppl get rejected with a sky high score of 760-770.

So one thing u can understand from here that GMAT score is just one of the several parameters in getting into ISB which cannot be forecasted. For ordinary profiles( like the very bunch of SOFTWARE & TECHNICAL bees from the IT COMPANIES HIVE) a person needs to score at least 730. Likewise an exceptional profile(like a sportsperson played in national or state level) can get through with a score of 640.

But the most imperative thing dat ISB adcom wants to know dat why should Indian School of Business Hyderabad bother with you when there are a thousand other applicants with a comparable GMAT score or work experience or academics or whatever? ?what is the real INTENTION that is driving a candidate crazy to get himself/herself admitted to ISB?? Is it for getting the salary package double in his/her current industry doing (ctrl+C & ctrlV) or adding one more lucrative qualification to his/her business card or is it altogether to head start for a new journey listening to the passion of ur soul what u want do?????

Extracurricular/NGO will add value provided you did some real work and can convince the adcom. Recommendations are very very important as they give your superiors perspective to the adcom.

1. We can read smaller font also. No need to have a large font. Seems as if you are yelling at us.
2. We are not a part of adcom so cannot say if 550 will get you in ISB or not. If you are able to present yourself very well then I don't see a problem in that. The average score of 2010 was 712 or 716 but this implies that for every 780 score there was a corresponding guy with score 652 and for every 800 score there was a corresponding score of 632. You do the calculation of your chances.
3. For the fees of ISB, please refer to Full Time Post Graduate Programme in Management Fees and Financial Aid Indian School of Business (ISB)

This can be the case. ISB may think like this.

In a different discussion - how many of you are opting for "Gurgaon" or "Don't care what the campus may be" choice in application? Do you think the faculty be as good as Hyderabad's? I am worried about the teething problem the new campus may have and also will ISB be able to convince recruiters on the level of education.

@prithvi84 - I have not been able write down my thoughts on this essay. I know this will be a tough one and I should get working on it. Will let you know as soon as I get something worthwhile.

The only 2 cents that I just thought of now is that we can try to take a line of being a better manager after ISB.... A manager can be "above" industry as long as s/he has good enough "leadership" qualities. (I know this is not even worth 2 cents)

A small correction - R1 will be open till Spetember 15 and R2 till November 30.

A good GMAT score can certainly help you further your case.
GMAT prep typically takes around 2-3 months.
Any particular reason you want to finish it in 45 days?

I know it very well that my 12th marks are not at all good when compared with other applicants. But i do have some strong points with me too, i took this condition as a challenge and have really worked hard to achieve the best in my life. My journey is still not over ...... :)

Guys, this was my background, Now we are here to discuss abt 'The Essays'. The idea what i got till now is that, The Essays are the first and last impression what we are going to create in the minds of the selection panelists. So it is very much important that we project ourself in the best possible manner.

Essay 2 : "Where do you see yourself three years after you graduate from the ISB? "

-> My question goes to all the applicants who belong to IT background. Guys most of us are well versed with our own field, but many of us don't want to continue in the same field. So probably some of us may wish to go for a total 'career shift', few may like the 'IT Consulting' part (so that we can very well make use of the experience what we have gained so far).

You would have observed that noone responds to profile evaluation request coz the ISB admission process is too complex to be evaluated by the four lines that one writes here.

There is noone who can evaluate your chances of getting into ISB. But for basic info, you can go through ISB website where the parameters of evaluation are laid down clearly( like acads, quality of work ex etc)

In my opinion these will not be considered as decent ECs unless you have won prizes in them. Being physically fit is not a good EC for doing MBA. You have to have ECs that you can use to potray leadership, team work etc... something whihc is more relevant to MBA. Offering services to orphanages is good. You can mention that.

You don't have to beg me to differ buddy! What you have told is new to me. I used to think that total n number of seats have to be filled in 2 rounds, therefore applying in either round does not matter.

My question is regarding EC. the 2 interests which i have out of office are go-karting and fitness workout :D...can i put these as EC? will the adcom consider these as decent ECs? also i offer services to orphanages but dont have certificates as such. is that ok if i mention this?

In my opinion these will not be considered as decent ECs unless you have won prizes in them. Being physically fit is not a good EC for doing MBA. I am an Software Engineer working in India's biggest and most renowned IT Firm. My profile is as below:

10th: 73 %
12th: 72 %
BE: 73 %

Extra-currics: Participated in regional level Cricket and Volleyball championships during school days.

Awards: Have been awarded with Star Performer Award for leadership and problem solving skills by previous employer.

Total work Ex: 3.5 Years (2.5 with previous employer and rest with current employer)

I will be applying to ISB class of 2013 and by then my work experience would be near about 4.5 Years. I am aiming for a GMAT score of 710-730.
Can someone please walk through my profile and suggest amendments/addition I can make in coming 1 year of work experience and GMAT so as to present a good profile for ISB admission?

Acads: 10 -93% (Merit holder) 12 - 91% . Engineering (BE IT -1st class with Distinction ) 70.9%.

EC: Co-ordinator tech fests in college and editor of school magazines and ofc newsletters. Also into writing a lot of varied stuff... Chief co-ordinator of learning cell for new joinees in ofc and also took sessions regarding product knowledge, soft skills as well as technical stuff for new and experienced joinees.

GMAT: 670.

Since you have given GMAT, have got good acads and extra curricular - there's no harm in applying to ISB ... you never know what the adcom like in your profile and you can pursue your MBA dream

I was an aspirant to the class of 2012. Unfortunately havent got the interview call and looks like a ding. Anyways my profile.

CA, CFA L2, KPMG 4 yrs in Banking and financial services, GMAT 770, Extracurriculars: Swim Team champion at state level, Mentor with Akanksha and some more stuff.

Will apply to ISB to the class of 2013 if i dont get a US admit. Let me know in case you need any help. I have a decent experience with the app process considering my dings from Columbia and ISB.

I think we should stick to one thread. Both the discussions are on one topic so i think we can close the thread which was formed later and which has less participation so far.

As far as i go would be from typical IT pool with exp of 6.5 yrs...Assuming that the R1 cutoff date for application would be of 31-Aug (similar to this yrs) planning to take the exam in June-July depending on the comfort zone of preperations...Any guidance/help would be greatly appreciated....

You may want to create your profile in ISB site as soon as possible and find out about the essay topics. Since you are planning to give GMAT in June-July and cutoff date for R1 is usually 31 Aug, I think you should work on your essays and recommendations simultaneously with GMAT. In my opinion, writing essays takes around one and half to 2 months (took me 3). Another pointer is that make sure your recommendations also reach ISB before 31st Aug. It gives ISB the complete picture of your application in one shot.. otherwise they will wait for your recommendations to come before sending out interview invite.

Those are my 2 cents.

PS: I have applied for R2 this year for class of 2012. In case (god forbid) I do not make this year then I will coem and join this thread.

hi guys..this is sourav..from kolkata..I am planning to give my GMAT for the first time in somewhere around August 2011. I have almost 4.5 yrs of exp in IT industry(in IT bellweathers Infosys and Cognizant)with decent academics(85% in SSC,73% in HSC and 78% in Engg, actively participated in several leaddrship activities in college as well as in my companies). I had appeared for CAT for d first time in 2009 but couldn't convert it into good percentile. I have started preparing for GMAT from the official GMAT book only and not going to any private coaching institutes. It would be great if u kindly suggest me some addtional efforts I need to give for my GMAT prep as I am really hellbound to apply for ISB at the end of this year.
