Anyways,let me start off with giving you the facts....GMP has had no doctors in any of its batches so far.However doctors doing an MBA is not new to XLRI. Infact the present 2 year batch a quite a few number of doctors(ofcourse with less number of work exp than yours)

Btw,GMP has seen a lot a firsttimers..... we have a students from diverse & unique professional background. To mention a few,the current batch of GMP has a student who has previously worked in the Intelligence bureau,another from the Indian army & yet another who has taught zoology for over 10years & authored several books!!! So you will find several students who have very uncommon work exp as yours

Regarding the placements, XLRI has enough brand value that any company from the health sector can be invited for recruitment

As this program is for professionals with more than 5yrs exp, stress more on your achievements or projects during your work in the professional exp block of the application form.The admission cell does expect a resume along with the application form

1. Past placements from XLRI GMP in health care sector?

2. Has any doctor been admitted in XLRI GMP before?

3. If there had been no placements from XLRI GMP in health sector, then if I join this course, HOW would I get a good placement??

4. I have a long list of academic honors, research projects etc. Do I mention them in resume along with the application?
(the application does not mention that we should even send our resume)

1.Regarding interviews for international candidates:

There is no need to mention that you need telephonic interview in the application form. From your current address Admission cell will come to know that you are an international candidate. Incase you are shortlisted for the interview, you will recieve a mail from the XLRI office & that point of time,you can reply by asking for telephonic interview.

2.Regarding payment towards Application form for international candidates

Please go through http://www.xlri.edu/nri_foreign.php .....details of mode of payment is given(Refer to one year program).The DD should be payable at Jamshedpur.

3.Regarding Educational details

First block refers to any courses that you done during your professional tenuresuch as any certification course, Six sigma, etc
Second block-Post graduate - though does not have any headings, information can be filled as per the headings mentioned in the Bachelors degree block

4.Regarding sending xerox copies of your certificates

Certificates need not be sent along with the application form

Yeah I have pretty good extra curricular /achievements/scholarships etc as part of my career achievments.Though my GMAT is low I still wanna apply and try my luck. I hope my other achievements add value to my application

Apart from the GMAT/XAT scores & Work exp , the adcom will look at other factors like your achivements,the kind of diversity that you will bring to the class, etc.So an uncommon work experience for a long tenure will defenitely grab attention of the adcom.

Age: 28
Work Ex - 6 yrs, 9 months (As on 31 March 2009). Have been in team leader roles for the last 2.5 years.

I'm planning on applying for the GMP @ XLRI this year, since I'm looking to complete my education by 2010.

Could someone provide inputs on the suitability of my profile? (from what is practically possible to judge).
I've gone through a lot of threads on the GMP, and read through countless posts. I think the GMP will suit my kind of work and expectations.

Hi Prachi,

I understand there will be telephonic for international candidates. But I didn't find any option for telephonic in the form. It may be difficult to get a call with 600 socre as the seats are less in GMP and average score last year was around 690.
How is your achievement/extra curricular? If they are strong, your application value will increase.

I am interested in the GMP program of XLRIand have a few questions related to the admission process.
Firstly Iam working in the U.S. and would not be able to attend the interview in person in India, so wanted to know if they conduct telephonic interviews for international applicant and whether the aplication gives the option of selecting telephonic interviews.
Secondly I have a GMAT of 600 and have close to 6 years of experience in IT and Business Analysis. How good are my chances of getting a call.

There is no 'Telephonic' interview option in the form for international candidates. Should we just add that option ourselves? Also, can the application fee can be paid in equivalent foreign currency?

There is no contact email given for GMP on the website. I would appreciate if current students can get the answer to these questions.

what if sunil or siva say that NO you dont stand a slightest chance..
or what if they say YES you have bright chances....
It does not matter mate, because its going to be the admissions committee which will look at your profile, in comparison to the other profiles available at that time, prevailing market condition to ascertain if you are a saleable candidate post GMP, and also if you are a good choice considering your overall personality or not. These are not available to Siva and Sunil or for that matter, to any of the current students.
Dont loose heart just because you have a low gmat score or low experience or bad acads etc. Give it your best shot and then see what happens.
I know you want to hear a YES from them so that your confidence is bolstered and you feel good. But it is also a probability that they will say NO and you might not be able to apply properly, which might ruin your chances in front of adcom. c'mon buddy, get up and running, instead of asking are your shoes the running shoes.....

Well, with 4 years and 10 months, yo could have given the try, but i see a low GMAT score in your profile.This combination is not looking very healthy.with your kind of work experience, you need to offset it with either a hight gmat score (730+) or some achievements at a very good level (national level etc). If you have some thing to add up , we can relook at it.

Yes, GMP admission form is different as it doesn't require any recos and essays . The management believes those can easily be faked out, so other things like GMAT/XAT, work experience and interviews are the real criteria.As we have said earlier, your kind of work experience , GMAT score and educational background makes your profile and not GMAT alone.Try make use of the little space provided in the form regarding your responsibilities, try to put your achievements.

You have to elaborate on your achievements. You can say your profile is different and you have diverse experience.
GMAT is on the lower side, but you may have a better chance because you are not from IT.

I looked at the GMP application form through GMAT. There is no place where you can show your achivements. There is no place for recommendation as well. It made me think the applications will be shortlisted based on the GMAT score.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hello Sunil,

Can you please give me an idea about the number of participants from Govt. services?

I have six years of experience in Govt. services with diversified work profile which includes, Technology Forecasting, Technology Development Assistance, Public Private Partnership, SME cluster development. I have good acads and extra curriculars.

My GMAT score is bit lower (80%ile). Would my diverse background help to over come this? I am not in a position to appear for GMAT again. Shall I try for XAT in that case?

Have just picked up Princeton review and working on CR-have sufficient time.

do you have Manhattan material?If some how you can send me your email id I can send you. I went through Kaplan tests.They are good. I was doing well. But at the peak time of my prep, I had to travel on business which disrupted the flow.
As I said earlier, try your best not to loose concentration.That's the key.
You must score 700 in the tests from now onwards.Practice and practice.

For CR, just break down the question.Write down the components fast. The tricks are to be practiced looking into the time. You will have just over a minute for question.I will send you those

Agree Hotbrain- High GMAT does not reflect Business Acumen.

In this aspect international B-schools adopt a wholistic approach, with Numerous essays, Sop's etc.. XLRI form does not provide space to showcase Business Acumen,hence people with 630-640 also get an interview invite-I guess Interview is the main criteria of selection.

GMAT and work experience are just parts of your whole application package. Work ex is on positive side, and GMAT range for last year was something arnd 660-770 with avg of ~ 690.

As I said, not a single or two factors will determine your application. All you can do is try to bring your career highlights and academic/extra curricular achievements in one page format. This will help you a lot, in actual application and in interviews (for XLRI and other schools as well)

I had same questions as Brand Manager and from River Card's reply I see some clarity.

Personaly, I will not give high value to GMAT score. I seen some guys who were in IIT top 100 and excellent when it comes to IT. They have score 730+ in GMAT.But I didn't find much analytics when it came to business. I had a team member who scored high in GMAT and got into ISB. But he disappointed me a lot.From that day I chose my members by talking to them not by seeing the college name or exam score. Bottom line is, the person should add value to the business or IT or what ever field.
The B school's adcom is smart enough to figure out these things. That's why people with 750+ score also get rejected.I heard one person scored 760 and didn't even get an interview call from the10 colleges he applied.

please one thing in mind for xlri GMP getting i/v call is easy through both GMAT and XAT as cut-off for GMAT is 630 and XAT is 86% but convert it to final call is difficult. xlri call about 500 guys for 120 seats. and last year xlri reject gmat score even 760,680,640 .....

please provide information regarding placement.

in xlri web it is mentioned that "The average salary of individual offers stood at INR 17.8 lakhs " .but it not clear wthere " The average salary of individual offers " means the average of the domestic offers and intrenational offers or it means the averave of only domestic offers.

in particulare what was the average salary of the domestic offers for guys with more than 10 yeras exp.

as i know( may be wrong) ,the average salary of domestic offers was 12L and the average salary of individual offers is the average of both domestic and international offers. the most of the guys with 10 or more than 10 yaers got offers in the range 14L to 16L.

please clear the picture.

I have been surfing the internet and XLRI websites for information on GMP program but haven't find much useful information. Can someone kindly help me on the below points please :

1. When does application process start and what is deadline for submission of application. ( 15-Nov. or 15-Jan.)

2. What is the process for NRI ( someone who is currently out of India ), can they pay by a foreign currency DD or personal cheque in INR.

You need to pay in INR....at least this was the case last year

3. Information at General Management Programme India, Program for Working Executives - XLRI Jamshedpur. does not answer above queries and there is no email address of Admissions Committee to which we can direct queries.

There will separate GMP brochure that will be made available on website soon.... In the meantime, put your queries here...you will get all info you need....

4. Is the downloaded form all that is to be filled up and sent. That form says DD should be favoured to 'Prospectus' does it mean that XLRI will send a prospectus and then one has to fill in complete forms.

I am not sure whether process has changed...but last year...we just had to full app and send it along with DD...then you are done..wait for interview call...

5. Is there a process of telephonic or Out of India interview for current NRIs for GMP.

XLRI conducts telephonic interview for those who are out of india. There were signifincant telephonic interviews last year...

I can throw some light wrt to GMAT, but unfortunately not about XAT-Guess need to get hold of some senior, or some one who applied through XAT.

Since lot of people do not apply through XAT, at 90% or so u should get a call( its just a calculated guess, based on inputs from here and there)

GMAT- 630+ gets an invite..

So be positive go ahead and apply with a Cracking Xat Score

last year i.e. 2008 intake batch and 2007 intake batch guys with GMAT score 640 got admission and for last two years xlri called guys with GMAT score 630 for i/v.

1. You can give a try. If you can convince adcom in your interview, you are done. Try to highlight you career/academic/extra-curricular aspects.

GMAT and work experience are just parts of your whole application package. Work ex is on positive side, and GMAT range for last year was something arnd 660-770 with avg of ~ 690.

As I said, not a single or two factors will determine your application. All you can do is try to bring your career highlights and academic/extra curricular achievements in one page format. This will help you a lot, in actual application and in interviews (for XLRI and other schools as well)

The website states 5 yrs as experience, but like ISB( i attented one of their contact programs in Chennai-who consider lesser work ex, say 1 yr 10 months case to case basis) you can try your luck at XLRI, no harm applying..If your candidature is strong you can always get through, seniors would be able to throw more light on this.

I guess 660-770 is the range of scores accepted last year

I have a few queries about the work ex and range of gmat score :
1. I will have 4 years 10 months work ex by april 2009. Will I be eligible to apply for 2009 program?
2. My GMAT score is 680 (awa - 6.0). Whats the range of gmat scores which do get accepted? Will 680 be considerably below average and should I retake GMAT?

Your profile looks good to me with good academics.I would suggest you to be confident and apply. You have a strong point ; publishing papers.Make it a selling point.

You will do well. All the best. Just make sure you don't loose concentration. My problem was I lost concentration in between verbal section and this happened 2 times.I used to score 690-710 in practice exams but on the final day I failed.Questions will be easy for you. Jusy don't loose concentration and I am sure you will not.Good luck

I have more than 6 years of experience in areas like Technology Forecasting, Technology Development Assistance, Public Private Partnership for higher education, E-learning initiatives, Industry-Academia Interaction, SME cluster development etc.

I have published papers and presented them in National and International conferences. I have worked in programmes of National importance and also worked closely with few international organizations like World Bank and National Academies.

I am an M. Tech by qualification and have 75% acads throughout and decent extra curricular
