Congrats to all who got through GMP...

I have been selected for IMT Executive mba course. Can anyone shed light on how does Imt executive course fare aginst XLRI GMP course.(cosnidering that placements have been bleak for 1 year courses all around, for IMT there is practically zero placement for current batch)

Do also please evaluate my profile for GMP:

I am currently working as Team Lead for leading IT company with 7 yrs (by jun,09) of experience in IT industry out of which 5.5 yrs in a trasnport service provider PSU.

Though I have post qualification experience of 7 yrs, I have been working since last 11 years in various part time roles (to avert financial crunch brought about by sudden demise of father). Combining studies with work reflected badly on my academics.
10th - 70%
12th - 75%
graduation-60%
Post-graduation-75%

Achievements:
I got selected for overseas training within one month of joining the PSU.
I twice got promoted (through open market) in 2 years.
Recieved cash award for exmpelary work durring execution of a project.

Extra curricular
Active member of Amateur Astronomers Association Delhi

Gmat - yet to take (Please suggest a safe gmat score with my kind of profile.

I am thinking of applying for the 2010-11 batch. My work experience by Mar'10 would fall three months short of the minimum 5 years work experience. Just wanted to know if the adcom might look into my application at all in this case?

finally i have decided not to join .Iwas waitlisted 13
some obvious reasons
There must be some obvious reasons that there are confirms calls for such a huge list of waitlisted candidates perhaps for the first time(GMP had called waitlisted candidates upto 38 out of 45 list it had released.)I'm not raising doubts over the calibre of such candidates (sorry if it hurts) but just presenting some facts.
secondly placements seasons has been extended for GMP batch in progress
thirdly market conditions dont seem to improve as far as placements are concerned forthe next one yr.
number of seats have been doubled confirming that xlri considers GMP more as a cash cow
more increase in intake may result in inadequate placement for the coming batch keeping in mind the economic situation:oops:
P.S: I dont want to spoil the party for the converts just prsenting certain harsh ground realities which must be considered before placing so many things at stake.Any way best of luck to allthose who re joining.

i suggest you visit XL and see the situation yourself.XL-GMP has many drawbacks ( esp.in terms of placement profiles available,virtually no consuting companies,etc )which you will realise.i for one doubt the institute management's commitment to the program .this program is a step child , and they are merely looking at it as a cash cow. the 2 yr program remains the flagship .

Also please float your resume in the market and see what kind of job you can get with your present profile. People from core sector,PSU's come from a insular working enviroment which creates problems during placements.if companies are willing to offer you a job in today's enviroment , go ahead and join GMP.

a MBA is not a panacea for all ills.People get frustated with their jobs and rush into the 1 yr programs without giving a thought about the pro&cons; , the strenghts of the institute,etc . This does not help and people from IT/Non-IT backgrounds with poor work-ex and junk profiles will not gain anything from a 1 yr MBA in the present enviroment.(Just look at what has happened at ISB this year ).

Forget what happened in the past couple of years.you might have even seen ostriches fly then. Now the tide has gone out and a large no of people ( Esp IT guys ) have been found to be swimming naked.

Just sharing my thoughts here, you mentioned people who quit 4 years ago and were trying to rejoin now.. im not sure what they did but if they'd done an mba 4 years ago, they would have passed out bang in the middle of boom time and landed in high flyer jobs right away. The fact that they wanted to come back, by itself doesnt really mean much.. What exactly did they do after they quit ? Where did they do it ? Are they coming back because they didnt get anything better or are they being welcomed back to the home ground, with obscenely high salaries ? Unless we know the background, its hard to let this simple fact influence a decision.

This is just like any other opportunity or call it a gamble if you want. You can choose to grab the opportunity, when it presents itself or decide to pass saying thats its risks far outweigh its rewards. So if your risk appetite doesnt allow you to quit and do an mba, well, thats what you should do - bye bye mba.

So we are almost on the middle of the month...Any updtaes from XLRI GMP students about the placements etc?

As informed by XLRI admission offc: While sending the draft of 20K, please remember to write down your Name, XAt Id/ GMAT id and WL no. on the back side of the draft and if possible send the draft with a covering letter.
Any issues you can call up the XL admission office and they shall guide you.

Can any one tell me the details of the accommodation charges for GMP students who want to avail the same.
I guess these details will be mentioned in snail mail.

Need info about the flat rent, refundable amount if any and mess charges. Also, is cooking allowed in the flats or not.

Are all the person joining the course are quite sure about the future....

As if we consider the curent placement scenerio and dismal economy we can't say anything about our future there. So is it wise enough to leave a quite comfortable and assured job (like mine as in PSU) to go for this course and jeopard our future.

As some person who left my company 4 this course are now trying to come back on the earlier position. So is it be good tht we should wait for couple of more years (as i have just completed 5 yrs of job) and then go for this course.

so I want to know the other persons point of view tht why r they going to join this course ??..... and whether they would leave their comp or would come at study leave.

Also with study leave we can't enjoy the benefit of campus placement so ....... its difficult to decide at this juncture.

Did it come by courier or general post?
Was it same 'Blue Dart' as last time (for interview letter)?
