regarding your first question - the scenario looks much better as compared to previous years. Most of the desis have got internship and almost all internships are highly prestigious. Bottom line is if you work diligently towards your internship throughout the year, you will certainly land one. But having said that, getting it is not easy at all, its extremely competitive and requires lots of networking and following right approach.

For your second question: Staying in DC would not be a good idea as you would have to suffer from the traffic. Plus you wont be able to take UMD Shuttle (fees of which is included in your tuition fee btw). Daily up down from dc to college park will be extremely challenging if you are not planning to take a car.
My suggestion would be to take a place closer to the university.

We were thinking of staying in DC to make the most of the city life but were not sure abt the pros and cons in terms of the travel distance, expenditure etc... wud be glad if you could give us some first hand info on tht

Sorry for not replying dude .. i am R2 admit and quite frankly in hell due to work .. just to put things in perspective its 1.30 am and am still at work .. anyways yes this forum has gone quite and not only this everywhere things are quite for smith admits. I dont know why!

As per waitlist .. i am not sure whats the process for Smith .. If they have send a to-do item list to improve your candidacy do act on it.

Example, i am WL in another school and they have asked me to give GMAT if i think my score is lower than average, additional recommendation and additional essay. So it depends on what the Smith adcom wants.

I will suggest .. if you are in doubt call them and ask.

Duude ,,. Kelley is so an obvious choice.

Vaise im in the same boat, and choosing Kelley ,, but thats also cause surprisingly I have a bigger schol at Kelley than Smith.

UMD has gone little crazy it seems, they received my transcripts but claim they did not.Have been trying their graduate admission number for the past 2 weeks and it constantly goes on voicemail.

Who loses in the end? An applicant

I have an admit for Smith. I am a R2 applicant, with no Schol or GA, I wrote to Smith regarding the same and they replied saying they may reconsider my application for schol. Anyone with the same status. Anyone has some idea on wat are the odds of getting a schol now!!!!!
