You are welcome! The telephonic interviews were conducted just a few days after the physical interviews at Mumbai. That does not hamper or enhance your chances in any manner. You will get in if you are good enough :)

I too would be appearing for a telephonic interview. I hope interview would be held on a weekend?? ( i requested for 3rd sept date in my mail to SP people)
Also is it possible that we take the interview using smartvoip facility wherein we can give a call using internet.
One last question, i am giving my GMAT on tuesday . How do i communicate my score? Earlier i had mentioned my CAT percentile in application form

If u r lucky with traffic, u shud b able to reach college in 30-40 mins from airport. For noon slot, if u reach by 10, it should b fine. All the best!

SPJIMR does change the format for selecting candidates for both PGPM and PGDM often. So I would suggest applicants to be prepared for anything.
If you are confident, the format will not matter. So keep your cool guys and go for it!

though I did check the recently uploaded profile and could found only one Entrepreneur profile that too in (IM Stream). I wish if there were few more :-)
Also there are 13 students in the current Finance batch and each has very competitive profile. This year 68 have been short listed for the same. so it's 5:1 the same ratio as mentioned earlier in the blog. So its going to be tough as I don't have much of on-paper exp in the finance domain.

The only +ve I seems to have is managing the finances of the startup for more than two year and also post MBA I am looking to go for the PE Firm and later to Entrepreneurship so having done MBA in Finance will certainly help me , but that's a wishlist

Could you or current finance students throw some more light on how can I put my side more strongly in interview.. to justify my chosen stream and moreover why me over others.

Out of context but still answering - Yes Most IIMs accept GMAT for 1 year MBA. For 2 year MBA only if you were out of country at the time of CAT.

I have applied for the PGPM(SP Jain), the 1 year course and got the interview call which is scheduled for 3rd Sept 2010. I wrote my GMAT on 4th and got 640 ... and Can't rewrite it as it need 31 days window before the 2nd attempt and I didn't know that earlier else would have prepared for it. Can this might hamper my chances of admission.

I would advise you to adhere to the word limit. You need to understand there is a rational of having a word limit.
Also, as potential management students, its extremely important for you to learn; how to ensure maximum impact by being precise, to the point.

Few points to help you get a better understanding of how things work (in my opinion)-

1. GMAT score is one of the criteria of selection. There are multiple factors that contribute towards the assessment of the candidate by the admissions department

2. You should not bother about the minimum score. Referring to the point above, a candidate might score less in GMAT but if he/she is having a strong profile, has a great interview - selection should happen.

3. 650 and 640 are decent scores. We have students in our batch with similar scores.

4. My suggestion to both of you (and others) is to focus on preparing yourself well for interviews, writing your essays effectively and most important delivering on the interview day.

5. Regarding elimination, there was no such thing last year. I presume the same process should be followed this year also.

I have GMAT of 640. I understand its an edgy score. I have a call for OM.
It would be nice to know the min/max and mean GMAT scores of present OM batch to assess the situation after the interview.

Also, I understand there would be two interviews PI and TI. Is PI an elimination round?

Why don't you drop a request for hostel accommodation for 1 night. If it works out (which I think it would as you happen to be an outstation candidate), that would be the best thing for you.

Is anyone else also facing a problem in accessing the homepage of the SP Jain website?? For the past couple of days, I am not able to acccess the homepage (www.spjimr.org) while the internal pages the uRL of which is available from the browser memory can be navigated to.
As the announcement link is usually on the homepage, there may be problems now that we have to register for the interview spot. I have mailed the query to the institute... In case Rishikesh or others from within SP jain can help expediting the resolution of the same it would be great.

Well, it means (in my opinion)
have you ever done anything in your life that goes beyond the 'routine' or 'mundane'
- which has brought about any improvement in you as an individual, (some activity which helped you to overcome certain fears)
- or has resulted in any significant contribution to the society (worked with a NGO, worked at a place where there was a natural calamity e.g tsunami, earthquake etc)
- did something at work that caused significant impact to the way your project was being run

@Bhawna - I presume your letter does mention the tentative dates. Drop a mail to the admissions department specifying your constraint and wait for a reply. Alternatively - give a call and admissions will respond.
