Got a confirmation 4m SP people that interviews wud be held in Mumbai + profile sheet has to be mailed back the same id thro which you received it.. regarding date allotments they themselves have yet to decide.

I wud be going 2 Germany on 24 aug so have made a request for telephonic interview .So hope 2 see all u people in person on joining only probably in Jan..:biggrin::biggrin:

It is not easy to switch from IT to finance. After all one will have to fight with the core finance guys having experience. The recruiters are also going to evaluate us against those core finance guys. One way to back ourselves is to take some finance certification as well. In our batch most of us are well on course.

- What are career prospects for ppl switching from IT to Finance? How many students (%age wise) in current batch are from non-finance background & work-ek?

Well one can make a switch, but there are few jobs(like IB front end) for which lateral offers are not made, usually freshers are preferred. yes there are people in currente batch of Fin who are from IT. But all of us have good exposure to the domain per se.
The roles offered... even we are waiting for the same :)
- For IT to Finance...kindly pour in your thoughts for interview prep's point of view.

Do not dleve into finacial jargons. Just abreast yourself with current or past important finacial afairs. "Why finance" is THE question that you will be grilled on. Most of the time they play Devils's Advocate especially for finance interview.

- Need general thoughts on applications essays (if you don't have essay topics from current appln form, I can post them here...I hope they would be same for all candidates.)

Last but not the least....my sincere thanks to Rishi/Siddharth and all those who're answering and helping aspirants on PG. We all know its not easy to take out time for such things in a 1 yr Management program.

Yes that's exactly what Rishikesh means. Hope that cleared your confusion.

Regarding there has been no information on venue or what all is required to be done next, Well - I would request all of you to have some patience. I understand the reasons for all these questions but please give some time to the admissions department. There is lots of time for interview and form submission dates.

You would get all the information soon. There should be a some sort of link on the website where a candidate can select his/her date and timing of the interview. (this is what happened last year).
You would be required to mail the form to them if last year's trend is followed.

please go thru the posts on this thread before posting your questions.. same questions are posted again and again.. college needs 800 gmat score by 31st aug, you can submit AWA later.

telephonic interviews generally happen after personal interviews..but things can change..better write an email to adcom and get a confirmation.

Please remember - some finer details and logistics may not be planned yet, hence you may not get exact timeslots etc now. For now, you send email to adcom requesting telephonic interview and get a confirmation .

I too have been shortlisted for OM, but havent received any mail till now. So I think we need to wait at least till monday for receiving the mail. If we dont receive on monday also then I guess adcom will have to be contacted

I too had the same query. If we take the GMAT towards the very end of August , can we submit the AWA later ? As per PGPM website, the date for final list of candidates is 01st September. So I am wondering if we need to be submit the AWA score also by 31st August.

As per my understanding, people who would not be in India at the time of face to face interviews shall have the option of going for telephonic interviews.

thanks a ton for posting your experience here. It surely will help in preparing for my interview. Just wanted to know though, as in case of PGDM do they ask the candidate to write any essays before the interview.

Group Interview
There were two professors, one was our Dean and the other a marketing professor. We were four applicants in the room (2 for IM and 2 for OM) and they kept throwing questions at us randomly. The interviewers watched everything from our body language to our attentiveness.
This was more like a GD which was controlled by the interviewers.

1) Tell me in detail what you have done in your life so far
2) Explain with an example how you handle clients in your day to day work
3) Business Case : You are running a construction company and there are two people working under you. One is an extra-ordinary sales man but he is also very dishonest. The other person is extremely honest but fail to crack any deal due to his modesty. Remember that your objective here is to make profits and pleaze your shareholders. Tell us in detail about how will handle work allocation between the two employees.
4) Some OM guys were asked indepth about their experience on shop floors, there were several domain related questions. IM guys were asked about growth in the IT sector & how IT contributes to the GDP growth of India (This part lasted some 7-8 minutes)
5) Businss Case: You are running a pharma company in Kerala which manufactures the cure for elephantiasis. The Cost of running the company is very high and the tables are mainly manufactured for consumption in Kerala. There are many poor finshermen (and their families) in the costal areas of Kerela who suffer from this disease. They cannot afford to buy your tablets as you have priced them very high to cover your costs. You are also in an ethical dilema asto whether to continue the business which is running into lossess. Please tell us about how you will handle this situation.

What do you know about SPJIMR ?

yes I have 67% in BE , got shortlisted for the interview. In Mumbai University where I studied. at least this was considered a good percentage, since it falls into the First Class with HOnours category, but looking at some of the percentages posted by fellow applicants this seems like just average %.

Appreciate your response..But I still stand by what I had mentioned earlier..Also, can see a clear fallicy in your supporting argument (We are not talking about placement agencies....these are centers of excellence, institutions for higher learning)..But since this thread has a purpose now to help the shortlisted candidates with subsequent rounds, don't wanna spam here and start scoring in a debate..

We send placement brochures to companies to invite them for placements and these brochures contain just 150 words about each student. Thats why all students are given more than 30 days to choose the best 150 words that describe their application. The companies shortlist applicants based on the 150-word-snapshot in most cases.

Even in this application process the prospective students were given around 2 months to choose the best words that describe them and the adcom choose the best 400 who would be a good fit to our academic process, brand name and culture. I don't deny that many good profiles get rejected but that doesnot mean that the profiles are bad but i may be that they don't fit the institute's placability criteria.

All shortlisted candidates would be writing detailed essays anyway

We are proud of our legacy and have full faith in our admission process. and the candidates who ultimately join us are the best of the applicant pool & this is something that the industry says.

50 or 100 or 150 words are not sufficient to judge someone with 6, 7, or 8+ yrs of work ex..Neither do they ask for a professional resume in prescribed format or letter of recos..

In which case I am sure school relies heavily on the academic scores and donnish achievements. In which case all I can say is that "Its high time that these schools grow up"..Just because they have plenty of prospective applicants doesn't means they can take them for granted..

Maybe once we have a few good foreign Universities established here and once these so called top tier academic oriented schools face the heat of competition themselves, they'll start getting the act right..

p.s.: Feelings are in general observation of admission pattern with Indian schools and not directed at anyone in particular..

Congratulations to all Shortlisted Candidates for crossing the first hurdle..........This is a great achievement as getting shortlisted
is not an easy task and SPJAIN is quite choosy :).

Next: Prepare really well for the next few rounds --> Concentrate really hard on your workex and current affairs, remember that u'll have very less time to convice your interviewers so be very sure of all your strengths that you want to bring out in the interview.

I am also shortlisted for the interview but i need to reappear for GMAT as my scores are quite low (690/4).
I have a doubt regarding the score updation.
Do we have to update the AWA score also till 31st?
Suppose if i take the exam on 30th, update the score & update the AWA later when the official score report is sent by GMAC. Can this be done? Otherwise i need to schedule the exam before that. I guess it takes arnd 10 days for AWA scores to reach us.

though this question is once answered i am once again posting it because my GMAT score (like in many other cases) will decide my final selection
i am planning to schedule my GMAT on august -30th ( for better score ) so I will be able to upload my Quant &verbal; scores only before the last date (august 31st) and will produce my AWA section score immediately after I get my final report, sir I want to know whether I will be allowed to upload (produce) my -AWA score even after august 31st,
you have posted on this forum few days back that one can post AWA score even after 31st august (ie one can take GMAT on 31st august also with out being disqualified for final list) but many days back ADCOM replied to my mail saying that i need to arrange my total score by 31st august , i want little clarity on this sir.
