Hi Pushkar
Alright i can make out the following from your Post.
U have a good Percentile, U have a descent amount of exp which is good enough to fetch a call for GD/PI
Ur acads and recos play an important part in the final selection.
Well nothing is difficult if u have good enough knowledge about that field u r applying.
So if u r in IT and want go for Finance, They expect u to have the following:
i. Good enough reason to do so.
ii. Knowledge & clarity about what exactly you looking for by changing your field.
iii. Value add like certifications etc u have done to support your interest
Leme give an example:
Last year 2 of my frnds with IT background opted for Finance, One had 97% with 4 yrs wrk x ,working as a lead, second one with 94% with 2+ yrs workx.
While second one was selected, the first one was not even though he had more % and more exp. The reason, well above 3 points that I have mentioned.
From my experience i felt that Spjain is looking for those who exhibit the following:
1. Clarity of their goal( V.imp), how Spjain MBA will help the achieve that.
2. Communication skills. In clarity of gaol they expect u to know what kind of Job profile you will be looking at post MBA, what kind of Domain /Functional area would you like to work.
Let me put it from IT point of view:
What a S/w engineer can look at:
Project Management: u don't require an MBA for this , it's a natural progression for any s/w engineer in 4-5 yrs. So forget it.
Business development: Marketing side if IT, preferably an MBA in marketing would take u there. Here u can either work for Services companies selling their solutions or Product based companies selling their product's.
Business Analysis: MBA IT wil take u here. Here u will be a bridge between Tech side and the business side . Involved in proposals making, requirement analysis etc.
Consulting (Technical/functional).. For technical u don't need an MBA but for Functional consulting an MBA is desirable. Here u will be a problem solver, understand the issue and suggest a solution. For e.g. : A manufacturing company that wants to implement a ERP solution , u can consult that and suggest what ERP solution suits them .So if u chose to say that u interested in consulting than u will be expected to know the Job function in addition to the companies that specialize in that function.Hope this helps!!
