We all got our package in about 10 days time from the day of receipt of the mail. It comes via Fedex.

The email sent by the Adcom asks us to confirm our mailing address so that the packet reaches us. This makes me think that the package will be mailed to us in Hardcopy through Postal mail.
Have you replied to that mail and confirmed your address. If not then i would suggest you do that and adcom will reply to you accordingly.
Secondly, I feel in anycase you would recieve the package before me since i recieved the admission notification today only. :-)

A question for alums (and those in the know)...any idea what textbooks (titles, authors)are being used for the first-year courses at Rotman? I'd like to get copies from India instead of having to shell out 10x as much in Toronto.

Also although i doubt there will be posted GMAT averages comparing domestic vs. international students. The applicant pool was 60% international, and the class was only 43% international... if that helps.

Also, important to remember that GMAT is only one component of the application. Little work expereince or poor quality work expereince will hurt individuals with Great GMAT scores. Likewise amazing work expereince and references will help a below average score.

It's about how the individual add's value to the program. Essentially- What are you bringing to the table? I think they are looking for well rounded people.

The social life in Toronto is pretty good. It's not New York, or Montreal, however, It is definitely in the top 10 in North America. There are some great Pubs near the school, and further downtown in the "entertainment district" there are the typical nightclubs, lounges and venues of those sorts.

Weather in Toronto is very mild compared to the rest of Cananada. That is not to say that you will never see snow or temp's below -15, but you will see them a lot less frequently than say, Winnipeg, Manitoba! Haha. This winter has been freakishly mild. We hardly saw any snow. If you know anyone who went to Rotman this year, and was in Toronto for the first time, their expereince was probably not indicative of a "true canadian winter."

As for the transportation. TTC is pretty good. Rotman is 1 block from St. George subway station, which is on the hub of two subway lines (an east west, and a north south) I would say that as long as you are downtown, walking, biking, subway transportation and street car are best. Try and avoid getting a place where you need to take a bus. As for bixie bikes. I have never used them, but they are around all over downtown, not sure on the price though.

The average GMAT score is 662. ( http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/full_time_mba_profiles/toronto.html)So it makes complete sense for some scores to be much lower than 680. I beileve the GMAT range is typically in the 550-790 range. Something that the communications officers really stressed to me while i was preparing my application was that the GMAT is but one part of the application. And it was your total package work history, essays, references etc... that all come together to form a complete application. This having been said, they also stressed that Rotman was looking for people who added value to their peers in the program.

A friend of mine's roomate got into Rotman last year with a score below 600, however her work expereince was exceptional in comparison to most 27 years olds (think top 40 under 40). Considering that half of your MBA expereince is the relationships you build and networking, I would be much happier knowing someone who got a low GMAT score but is a force to be reckon with in the business community, and is well connected, than someone who may have gotten a higher GMAT score 750+ but has little to no work expereince or poor quality.

To address your questions specifically. I do not think there are published statistics on average GMAT scores between domestic and international, however the international students make up 60% of the applicant pool, but only 43% of the actual class. Hey everybody. Im from Canada, but this is probably the best forum on the internet about Rotman, so i've decided to join. I got my admit way back in October, I applied very, very early. Got my welcome package in the mail a few weeks ago with my Pre-Rotman portal passwords etc...

Just wanted to comment on the post below. I have done extensive research on Rotman and have met with about 5 current students and alumni. It is true that Rotman is a very Finance centric school, however from my understanding, having the CFA designation is NOT a must have. If you want to go into Funds/Asset/Portfolio management, then i would say YES it is. However, I am planning on pursing investment banking, and i've had a chat with 3 current students who did summer placements with one of the "big 5" canadian banks, and they also said that, while having the CFA designation will probably help you, it definitely will not hurt you if you dont have it. I myself am a Level 2 candidate in the program and will be writing the exam on June 2nd, however, if i get placement into I-banking i probably will not write level 3, as the time committment will be way too much.


Also, a little about my profile:
- 4 Years Work Experience (most recently, in retail wealth management)
- 83% average in my final year of undergrad
- Did my undergrad in sociology, however i would say that because of the CFA program, my finance knowledge is definitely on par with commerce undergrads
-GMAT score= 630 (73%tile)

One thing both said was this is a Finance-centric program. This means that almost all of the really good jobs after graduation are in Finance firms. In comparison Consulting is way behind.

They also said for non-Finance background guys like us (all of us did our undergraduate studies in Engineering), keeping up with the coursework is hard. They strongly recommended doing the pre-MBA courses in accouting, Spreadsheet analysis etc.

Also for any decent job, a CFA degree is must. Therefore I am myself looking at giving the CFA level-1, exam date will be June 2nd.

Guys just wanted to ask if ROTMAN's 1 million $$$ worth the pain... Though i don't have other options at hand.

Your wife will be permitted to work in Canada. Unless she has a Canadian degree or Canadian work experience, it will be difficult for her to find a good job with a descent pay. But still you can expect a steady flow of income sufficient for meeting your day-to-day expenditures.

If you were married more than 3 years ago, u can get some special waiver. Details are in this forum itself.

the cfa level 1 exam will b held in june this year, the results of which will be declared around aug. i think what you can do is register for the exam and inform the adcom indicating your desire to pursue a cfa

Being wait listed... I think , out of all the students, I have heard you are the first this year ..!
But you have good chance to convert but I think wait lists to convert happen very late .. (at times too late to accommodate your visa time ) SO my suggestion is to be in touch with admin ..!!

Ok I know at least 4 people who made it and are not joining Rotman for two reasons too much of financial pressure and a better admit considering aspirations ..

and normally if u have seen people have started there talks on the forum once they got admit and not before so in general people will not talk if they got reject (though there have been times when people have been actively part of the forum and reported back the reject)

On Scholarship front if u have received scholarship your are informed in the first mail itself and not in admission package

I just got my admission confirmation E-Mail. The actual scholarship details are given in the Admission package which I havent received yet. So basically I dont know whether I have got a scholarship as of now.

i have heard of a few ppl who have got rejected after the interview. Dont know how many have rejected the admission offer after receiving one.

Also, My friend in Rotman tells me there are 28 Indians in the current batch. However since the number of seats have increased this current year, I think there will be more this year. Probably close to 50 in total.
