I'm an Undergraduate Student from Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. I am also a very keen MBA Aspirant. I have given the GMAT and scored 740 with 5.5 on my AWA. I have a GPA of 7.97 and my 10th and 12th marks are 91.5% and 94.5% respectively.

I will be graduating with B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering in May, 2011.

Does it even make sense for me to apply to ROSS without any work experience whatsoever?

Hi Aditya,

Your Gmat and GPA are good starts for your MBA journey. However I would say an MBA is more like a tool to achieve your professional long and short goals rather than a goal. So it all depends on what you want to do (at least in near future) and how MBA, specifically Ross MBA, can help you to achieve those goals. So if you are crystal clear about how to answer these questions and at least have a practical plan for your post MBA goals, then you will know whether to apply and when.
Normally it is not advisable to apply MBA without any experience, unless you have really very impressive EC and are very sure about what you want to do after MBA.


For others: today I received an email from Ross telling that they are about to experience inclement weather in MI and possibly the school may shut down due to blizzard condition. (heard from my friend there that they are about to have a very bad snow storm). Don't know if this can delay the next wave of i/v invite or not, but my i/v has been postponed to next week. Good luck Pratisupriya, you will go first !!!

Let me have the pleasure in answering your question. From the details you have posted I can hopefully conclude that you have got a very good profile.
Having said that, there are many factors taken into consideration including your academic performance for a decision to be made by the school.
I presume the other parts of your profile for instance extracurriculars are also equally strong.
Again your decision to apply for MBA raises the usual alarm...Y MBA and Y at this point of time. Especially in your case, since you are going to graduate in May from college, you have got to defend yourself very well on this front.
Work experience does play a very important role in MBA admission and hence you definitely have to come up with strong points explaining how you can fill that gap.
The chances of an admit in round 3 are not so bright when compared to round 1 and 2. Ross being a relatively bigger school, there is a little chance and no one could really predict about your plight.
If you are really excited about applying to ROSS ( can't contain your nerves )give it a go. Nothing to loose.

I would personally suggest you to work for an year or two and then apply.

Hope i've made some sense...Just my 2 cents..

Ultimately, follow your insight and take a decision.

Cud the late reco submission have anything to do wid not recieving a call yet. I mean, I can see ppl getting calls - over a period of time (like someone i heard received a call on Jan 19th). So, maybe they're still like..in process of sending out calls.. for R2..I mean I hope the showers are due..

Bawadi, you should not worry too much about the late recommendation, I was almost in the same situation and called the admission office to ask for an extension on the recommendation deadline, and they accepted. While am not sure if it delayed your i/v call from w1 to w2 or not, but suppose it doesn't affect the i/v or admission decision.

Anyway, the next interview invite wave is just around the corner... Best of luck!

Ross calls are coming in 2 waves. the first wave was few weeks back in Jan. The next (and supposedly final) interview invite is expected in first week in Feb. Keeping my fingers crossed though i dont hope to get a call from Ross with mere 680 GMAT score.

The best way to practice this is by recording your voice and if possible your video. I personally use Video Capture Software - Capture Streaming Video, Screen Record or Webcam Video Capture which works in case you have a webcam. As good as a mock interview, I must say...

Great minds think alike... lolzz I am also using this software to record my answers It's very useful to control my gestures and facial expressions. I would recommend it to everybody who is gonna have a video interview!

@ Prashant: my profile is quite below Ross's average , GMAT: 670, GPA 60%, WE: 7 yrs, EC: little...that's why I have to fight with 200% effort on the interview now. Also, I submitted almost at the last minutes... So i guess when you submit doesn't correlate to when they send i/v invite.

@ All: It's so nice to have more ppl joining the Ross thread now. Has anyone here had experience with the Tauber's interview?

The general strategy I follow in any interview is of having the key messages in mind that I would like to deliver...For example, being a sales person, I would definitely like to speak about India's largest fruit export contract negotiated/signed by me. In case the interview gets conversational, these key messages prove extremely useful in defining the framework of the question.

The fact that the interviewer only asks question, and doesn't show any attitude toward your answer can be very challenging as it may make you feel like you are boring... Plus, if he lets the you talk freely, then you may tend to talk more than what is necessary, which is another danger.

Yup, but totally agree with you and Bhavya about identifying the interview style quickly so that we can have an appropriate approach.

Btw, my i/v is scheduled on 2 Feb, and then there will be an additional one with Tauber institute which i haven't fixed the date and time yet.

I would very much want to agree with u even though my intrw fell under the other 10% category.
So solemio, in our case of telephone intrvw, i would be very happy in a scenario where i am free to talk as much as i want than in one with curt bombardment of unrelated questions. As bhavya said, it is in such a free flowing situation can u close ur answer with a direction for ur next question.
I guess u will get a hang of the style of intrvwr after the first one/two questions, and mostly (close to 100%?!:-P), this style wont change as u progress.

Whereas if u are in for an answer-to-the point-i cant stand your BS-attitude intrvw, well, i guess I would do just that and hope for the best!

Arun, you have a good point here. One of things I teach prospective applicants is to answer the interview questions in a way that prompts the interviewer to take a particular direction (and that is the direction the applicant is most comfortable with...:cheerio:)..This is a great way to have a successful interview...
