Rolling process can consists of different review patterns. The one Queen's follow is that at the end of each round, they sit together and review all applications. This way they send out all invitations at the same time. Also interview process becomes easier this way. After all people from Indian subcontinent are selected for interview, the AdCom team will come to India and will take the interviews at once. This speeds up the entire process..!! And as for rolling admissions, yes they do have rolling process, but they stick to deadlines of each round to ensure fair process. Should you have any specific question, pm me and i'll help you out with it.

@[430293:tech3] and other aspirants- Sept 28 is the date for 1st round of applications. After Sept 28, the MBA admissions team will have a meeting and they'll review all the profiles at once. They'll invite all the candidates which they think will be a fit for Queen's.

I am from tech background. IT is a huge field and banks(read BFSI) as such hire people with IT background for various roles in their technology divisions. If you are talking about techno-functional roles such as Product Manager roles in technology sector, then my suggestion would be to research. Technology sector (apart from telecom) is much smaller and getting into those companies in a role of your choice might be difficult.

I am from an IT background have around 11+ years of exp and expect to continue in IT post MBA but hopefully move out of project management into a role with wider responsibilities.

That was the most explicit break up of expenses I have ever come across Chetan. thanks a tonne for that. :-)) My idea is now crystal clear. The only thing thats left for me to do is a solid prep. for GMAT and the simultaneous applications.

Living expenses depend upon your spending patterns but IMO they should lie somewhere around 1000$ per month. House rent would be around 400-500$, mobile/internet around 100$ and keep aside 300-400$ for food. You must understand that dinners, outings, bars & pubs, parties are an integral part of doing an MBA and eating/drinking outside can cost a lot.Also you wouldn't have to pay a single penny to the school. Books, outings, networking trips etc. are all covered in the tuition fee.

Once you move to Toronto after your MBA and god forbid you don't have a job, you might have to shell out 1500$ per month.

To sum it up, I have seen people living with 600$ per month but for that you have to get a good deal on rent, cook food at home most of the times and attend very few functions and not travel a lot during your MBA.

Thanks Nikhil! It is strange that the Apps would be reviewed post a deadline as I too had assumed the Queen's had a rolling admissions. All the best as we will wait it out! :)

@[227438:vug007] While waiting for responses from Vaibhav and Reconadi you may search on the web for sample cover letters written for mba schools. It should give you a fair idea on what is expected on it. Most of the letters I found had a generic format wherein you will give an overall idea about yourself, why you are looking at Queens for an MBA and requesting for an opportunity to discuss with them. I kinda followed that pattern. Make sure you dont make it too long as most of the stuff you are anyways going to write in the essays.

As for you question to vb5 on hearing back from them. We both were told that the adcom will start looking at apps post Sep 28. This seemed a bit strange given that I was under the assumption Queens follows a rolling admissions process.

So still waiting.....

I received a response from Queen's ad com (Juanita) and as per that the school will start reviewing the apps only after Sep 28. I thought Queen's follows a rolling admissions process, reviewing apps as they come in. Was it not so or has it changed recently?

There are no forms to be downloaded. You have to register your referees under references section. As soon as you do it, your referees get a link to the online recommendation forms.

The questions are confidential and cannot be revealed to the applicants.

I see it as a diversity essay... "What Diversity you will bring to class and how your background will add value to the class"

The school just wants to check if you are just a bookworm or something more. Essentially, the essay wants to know how you can contribute to the MBA community apart from academics.

With 8 years of experience, I see that it is better to have professional recos. Unless you have something substantial to show from your undergrad.

There should be an option in the application to request for waiver. Else, you can send a mail to the adcom quoting your application number.

Good to see Queens 2013 thread. I contacted Adcom sometimes back for the application start date.
I was informed "We will be releasing our new website and application for the next class which begins in May 2013 on July 1, 2012"

i'm also a current FT student of Queen's and with Vaibhav's permission, I would like to answer your question.

FIrst, I'm not a big fan of profile evaluations because all I see are some numbers. It's tough to judge a person based on what he/she writes on a paper unless I know the life story.

About Ivey, Rotman and Queen's..well it's a classic dilemma! TO each, his own. Each college is unique just like each individual.So, its tough to rank them in an order. My suggestion is to look for a good fit to your expectations.

Starting a new thread, as I could not find a separate thread for Full time MBA -Queen's School of Business, Canada for 2014 batch.
I'm the existing student in the FT MBA 2013 batch, and i'm here to help aspiring MBAains to get some information about the college and to help them prepare for the interviews and other processes.

The next session will start in May 2014 and the application process will begin soon and it is advised to apply early to be eligible for good scholarships.
