I have gone through their website, met in person(Rouen only) and checked out pagalguy also. But could not find enough to set my target. Which two universities are you talking about? Whatever you select, post MBA opportunities in Europe is generally sucks. UK govt announced job cuts in lakhs. Most of Europe is soon to follow. Post MBA, getting a work VISA is also tough, very tough. The slightest infraction will make you ineligible for a longer VISA.

However, there are two places in Europe where there is still stimulus in the economy - Switzerland and Belgium. There are a couple of good universities there and both countries have excellent immigration stats.

You need to make an appointment with the consulate and go to the consulate with the I-20 from the new school. They will cancel the F-1 visa which was granted on the basis of the I-20 to the previous school and will issue a new visa (they can also cancel the previous visa and refuse to issue any new visa). They have SEVIS tracking system, so the visa is valid only for one school which is responsible for tracking your stay in USA and reporting to USCIS if you do not register as a full-time student. You can probably enter the USA on the F-1 visa for the previous school. However, as soon as that school does not report that you are registered for classes, you visa is immediately cancelled, which means that you will have to leave the USA immediately. The visa is not transerrable between schools. You have to make a separate application for that after you complete the degree from the first school if you then want to enroll in a new school.

AFAIK, once your passport gets stamped with the US visa, you can go anywhere in the US. The college does not matter.

Engineering student. Not expecting great results with the cramming oriented study system

Working in Social Media with an MNC for the past two years with a full time job guarantee after graduation.Am leading the team there and have helped increase business by almost 80% year on year . Also freelancing with a few other major brands which includes international exposure and work experience with them.

Questions time : Will this experience aid me in any way ? I know that full time experience is essential but will this be counted as something additional alongside or is it in vain ?

Secondly.. how important are undergraduate grades when going in for MBA. Was an ace student in school. Had achieved AIR 8 or so in the NSTSE exams etc..

So basically , if i can tackle the GMAT scores , will my average performance at the undergrad level seriously hamper my chances ?

Would appreciate an answer / help via PM if possible due to the rather fast paced nature of the forum.

1. Check with your university. They are the ones who prepare transcripts.
2. I think DHL has a application package rate or something exclusive for university admission application packets. Costs 1000-2000 I think - not sure - but you can check.
3. Before Aug should be ideal IMO
4. Depends on a case basis. I do not have an avg time now.
5. There is an application portal, where you fill in ur applcation online. Everything, esssays, recos, resume is online. Check out sites for something that says 'Apply Now'

to answer ur last question abt credit card... ICICI bank offers international credit cards against a fixed deposit. the minimum amt for the FD is Rs.50,000/- there is no upper limit... however the purchasing limit on the card will be 85% of the FD amount
so if u have an FD of Rs.1,00,000/- u will be able to make a purchase of max Rs.85,000/- using the credit card.

not sure abt other banks... i think u can call the customer care n check in case they have come up with new offers...

I am from a merchant navy background and I have a small query. after graduation my work ex is 6 months but overall that means including the cadetship its around 2 years.
So I was thinking should I go for sailing gain some experience and then apply to the institutes or should I go for GMAT straightway and apply ?? Well it's been almost one and a half years I'm at home dropped full year for CAT and got around 91 percentile.
Now thinking instead of doing from any good bschool in India I should try outside as it will be a major transformation in my career. Also if I sail for another 1.5 years I will gain experience and can earn some money for the course as well .,,.. Please any insights into this ....

Does Ex-MBA help? or should go with regular MBA.
In case of Ex-MBA, which colleges are good and do they provide campus selection facility?
Which one should be better? MBA from foreign or India?

I have admits from few schools for fall 2011 course and i am stuck between choosing Lancaster Business school (UK) and Kelley Business school (USA).

I am looking forward to specialize in marketing strategy or general management (not freezed yet ;))

In a nutshell Lan MBA would cost me around 18 lakhs & Kelley around 35 lakhs (this is including the scholorships & GA's that i have been offered, i know the diffence is huge and so is the reason of my dilemma ).

Would like to hear your perspectives to see if am missing out on any aspect while making my decision.

Well

One thing for sure is a MBA from a top US University is recognised all over the world. And this MBA would actually open up a lot of opportunities that are difficult (not impossible) otherwise.

When you are talking about job security, job satisfaction etc. -
The US MBA looks at itself as a stepping stone to somewhere you can get to. As in, the MBA should be looked as a way to achieve your career goals. More than looking at what the industry needs, evaluate the options that you have and see where your interests lie. Then pick a MBA course that helps your interests. In some cases it might not even be an MBA prog. For instance, if you are into Finance, MFE (masters in fin eng) might make more sense if it is inline with your interests.

So in short - is a US mba worth it? job satisfaction/guarantee wise?
Answer - yes

What specialisation?
Answer - don't worry too much about it now. After you start working, in a year or so, you'l know what corporations are like and you will be able to decide on your area of interest.

Since you are still studying check out ISBs YLP, Harvard's 2+2 and LBS' MiM programme.

One good idea would be taking your GMAT within a year after joining your job and getting the best score possible.

I think it entirely depends on what you want out of your MBA and your career goals. If its only money, MBA is not the only avenue. If its global experience, a non Indian MBA just serves the purpose.

And reg the field research both and make an informed decision. I am sorry I do not have much info.
And just so you know, I have met many ppl who have changed their choice of major after first sem or so.

Go ahead and try I'd say.

Schools look at what you have done apart from work in these two years that make you stand apart from your peers. But if you want to go to the top schools take more time, but start researching and doing ground work now. Its never too early.

Anyways, apply to schools that do not encourage reapplicants only when you think you are best ready.

Well I am not really sure of the exact number though I did this a few months ago... Check out mba.com for details - you can find details there for sure.

The earlier the better. However, do not rush but apply on when you think you are ready. I applied in R2. Most ppl apply in R1 as well. Some ppl apply to most favored in R1 and backup in R2. Depends on your strategy and plan.

I dont have much idea about that, but you can shortlist colleges and research them or post in the threads specific to those colleges.

You have such a good profile on the first place..:)
You can apply to most of the top 25 universities in UK by then (Next year)and get an admit easily but I would recommend you to go through the recent post work Visa regularities implemented before considering UK seriously.With so much of time left and recent changes in UK ,I would recommend top USA colleges with scholarship benefits if you can score real well in GMAT or other parts of Europe.Good Luck :)

I had a query pertaining to the I20 forms - I have an admit from a Business School and am awaiting admit decisions from a couple of other schools. The school I'm admitted to has deadlines around sending the financial docs so that they can send out the I20. Now, what if I get an I20 form from this school and get an admit from another school of my choice? Will I just get another I20 form from that school or would I have to transfer the I20 form of the current school?

You can request for scores to be sent to additional schools via mba.com. Costs an additional fee per school.

Transcripts can be scanned and uploaded at time of application. At a later point you would be required to send the originals to them via post or electronically (if your univ does that)

Reco, Essays etc are all online.

I'm a BE and am currently working at one of the Indian IT bellwethers... i would like to know if there are any external course and certifications that i can complete that would boost the quant proficiency aspect of my application.

Any Advise ?

Well you could probably look at the prerequisites mentioned and enrol in those courses.

Another way would be have a great GMAT score especially on the quant side.

Please try to post this question on KF thread as well, I am sure puys active on that thread can share some good info....Booth, Stern are very good schools, ISB is a good bang for your buck & will give you access to best brands. KF looks like a good regional brand (RTP, NC area), comparable to McCombs (Houston, Dallas area). I am sure you would go to Booth or Stern if an offer arrives, but ISB vs KF is a tight fight. ISB gives you great value, access to good brands but lags in diversity. KF would be something different (if most of your education has happened in India) and good programme as you say but opportunity cost would be around 150K US, again my suggestion is talk to an alum......Cheers & best of luck to you :)

Thanx Dirk. So if one wants to make a career in finance in IB does KF provide good opportunities. Because ISB will surely work as a brand in India. I spoke to some alums but they r mostly interested in a career in marketing and general management.

Well, I don't think there are any good universities that accept GMAT for GRE. It does work the other way around, but not this way. A better way would be to visit the websites of the universities you are targeting.

GMAT- Yet to give. Got 700 in recently given Mock test. Would give in my Last Semester.
Workex- Will work for 2-3 years before I apply. Mainly looking at Fall 2014, if I dont will apply again next year
Extra C A- Good but not great.

Interested mainly in Cornell,SLoan,Haas, Thunderbird,UCLA,USC,Duke.

Any suggestions?

Did you get a chance to talk to any alumni from KF? Please try to post this question on KF thread as well, I am sure puys active on that thread can share some good info....Booth, Stern are very good schools, ISB is a good bang for your buck & will give you access to best brands. KF looks like a good regional brand (RTP, NC area), comparable to McCombs (Houston, Dallas area). I am sure you would go to Booth or Stern if an offer arrives, but ISB vs KF is a tight fight. ISB gives you great value, access to good brands but lags in diversity. KF would be something different (if most of your education has happened in India) and good programme as you say but opportunity cost would be around 150K US, again my suggestion is talk to an alum......Cheers & best of luck to you

Btw I have a question. I have an admit from ISB. I am waiting for my final decisions from Booth/Kenan Flagler/Stern.

My Booth and KF interviews went well, however Stern was a disaster.

My post MBA goals are to work with a top tier consulting firm in strategy.

ISB is a good brand in India and will give me access to these firms. I have no doubts abt the brand value of Booth in consulting. Can any one help me , how is KF perceived in US as far as consulting is concerned. I really liked their curriculum and also since it is close to RTP and Charlotte, it gives a lot of opportunities to network. Need some help.

I am a fresher who gave CAT/XAT/MICAT etc... in 2011. I also attempted GMAT just out of morbid curiosity, and managed to score a 710 with a 5.5 AWA. I have a decent GPA (8.13) and 1.5 years training in the National Defence Academy. Additionally, I am the winner of many open quizzes, including the TATA CRUCIBLE regionals (2010). I also have a technical paper selected for presentation by WASET, Amsterdam.

Could you please list out my options ?? I would be ultra-grateful if you could PM me the same.

Hello Guys,
I have an admit from the schools mentioned below for Fall 2011 intake:
1. College of William & Mary Mason School of Business: Scholarship 12,000 for the 1st year and a graduate assistantship award of USD 4000 for the second year along with instate tution fee.

2. Case Reserve Western University Weatherhead School of Management: Scholarship of USD 17,000 per year.

3. USC Moore School of Business IMBA program: Scholarship of USD 20,000.

4. University of Missouri Crosby MBA: No Scholarship.

Fees for Weatherhead, Crosby and Mason is working out to almost the same amount after considering the scholarship amount offered by each of them.

I wanted to to know which B school is a better option in terms of ROI and brand value. I would also like if you could shed some light on the job prospects for each school upon graduation.

I also have an admit to MSc in Strategic Marketing from Cranfield School of Business in UK. Would it be wise to consider the MSc option after four years of expirience.

I would also like to know about the recongnition for all these programs in India.

If I plan to go, I would be taking a huge loan. I would end up paying almost INR 60,000 per month for 5 years after I complete my course.

In this scenario, I would be intrested in knowing about the payscales in India after graduating from the above mentioned schools and with a prior expirience in the technical sector of a telecom company.

Please help.
