Hi,
I have 5 yrs of work ex under my belt and am planning to write GMAT in March this year. Have given gmat prep 1 mock where i scored 680 (QA-50, VA-30). Do u think 2 months are sufficient for prep based on my mock score so that I get close to 750? I am looking for a 2 yr mba course. If I give GMAT in MArch, which admission season will i be eligible for?
How do i go about zeroing in on the prefered colleges? I have no idea which college to select. Need a little help here.
Vishal,
I don't know about getting close to 750 but 2 months prerp is generally good enough for GMAT prep. Obviously, it also depends a lot on your existing time commitments, etc.
If you give your GMAT in March, and assuming that you are interested in US Based B schools, you will be applying in Fall 2011 (Sept-Oct and later, depending on round deadlines) for admission to MBA program starting mostly from Aug/Sept 2012.
About selecting your B schools, the first step should be get a GMAT score to see atleast know the range of schools you can target. Based on the information you have given (just 5 year of work exp), I don't want to give you a target school range because it also depends on your GMAT, quallity of work experience, where you worked, your extra curricular and finally your goals. Working in a call center for 5 years is very different than working in a reputed consultancy firm leading a team of 5 associates.
You should first try to do some research on your career goals to find out where you want to land up AFTER your MBA. That would help you to figure out what schools give you the best shot in achieving those goals. For e.g. if it is consultancy, tier 1 schools are the feeder schools and that's where your focus should be.
Remember, While B schools carry a lot of brand value in itself, being a B school graduate itself should not be the goal.
PM me if you want to discuss it further. Good luck!
